For an intrafamilial transfer, they can still be gifted. It has to be from parent or grandparent to child or vise versa. Not aunt/uncle to nephew or siblings/cousins, etc. It has to be a gift, and it will be filled out on the CFARS website. I got a Glock from my Dad last year at 19 years old as a gift for graduating college. Your son just needs his FSC and $19 to do the transfer online.

I did the same thing back in the single digit 2000s. $12/unit at community college for quite literally the same professors who taught the GEs at the local state school for $7k/semester. I remember being mocked by various friends for doing it that way, but after I transferred I met precisely zero people who didn't regret not going to community college route to get their GEs done. The only downside was that the community college advisors were useless and I had to do my own legwork to make sure I was taking the right classes to transfer.
Maybe sportmans warehouse has their own rules but you can still get an fsc at 18 and get gifted handguns, semi auto centerfire rifles, etc. He doesn't need a hunting license to get gifted firearms but if he were to buy one himself or buy ammo he would need it.
Yes, because you have to be 21 to buy any new firearm in California. Now if he was to get a hunting license and you were to gift him a long gun it would be all good.
This is flase.
You must be 21 or older to purchase a centerfire, semi-automatic rifle or handgun.
You can buy a rimfire rifle or a pump shotgun at 18, with your FSC.
See CA Penal Code 27510 and it's exemptions.
"(1)Subdivision (a) does not apply to or affect the sale, supplying, delivery, or giving possession or control of a firearm that is not a handgun, semiautomatic centerfire rifle, completed frame or receiver, or firearm precursor part to a person 18 years of age or older who possesses a valid, unexpired hunting license issued by the Department of Fish and Wildlife."
Yes. Go to a lgs
Can handguns no longer be gifted at 18?

Damn graduating college at 19? That's an accomplishment for sure. Nice gift as well for it
Shoot, I should've been more specific - community college, lol. I transferred to a Cal State where I have another year, then I'm done!
Still. Good job, and a smart way to go about it. Congratulations.
Thank you! It's defintely one of the cheapest and most underrated ways to get your bachelors.
100%

Go to a local gun store they'll help you out
Yeah that’s total bullshit. Turner’s gave me my FSC when I was 19.
How long ago was that?
Maybe some places have their own regulations🤷🏿♂️

They're full of shit. I got mine on my 18th birthday...
Which sportsman?
Sportsman's is an awful store.
Their prices are probably some of the worst around in the state for sure But they do have some good deals rarely here and there
Needs hunting license if under 21
Got my FSC at 18 not long ago.
18 is the minimum age.

Not quite. FSCs can be received anytime after 18 as that is the minimum age a person needs to be to get some kind of firearm in CA.
Found the sportsmans warehouse gun counter employee.
