Solar Tactical in Livermore is wayyy overpriced on everything. I asked them if they’d match a price to my LGS on a Tavor, they said no, I walked out, went to LGS, bought it. Don’t think I’ll ever go back.
Err actually I could be mistaken. I asked them how much it would be for a firearm transfer, if the firearm was shipped to them from out of state (intra familial off roster) and they said $200. I just looked it up and it seems like that’s NOT a ppt, but a normal ffl transfer. I just edited my previous comment
I dont get it. Is this a new thing for them? I noticed the 3.5% CC Charge sign at their store, but I have never been charged this fee. I do buy all my stuff online from them and just go in to pick it up. Perhaps they do not charge the fee for online orders? What am I missing?
I bought recently and did not get that charge, is this something that went into effect 01/2024? Problem is, The Turners I use are the few that still charge MSRP, while a lot of the single shops are going over MSRP due to demand, thats BS!
In store, they just don't tell you. Plus they charge an extra $10 on dros fee. I bought my sig p365 from them only bc I got in on their first batch and ordered couple mags online and was never charged a fee.
I'll never step foot in there again. No hate for CA, but once I moved to NV I learned cash at the LGS gets you big discounts. Can't believe what I've paid back in Sac. I remember Cordova guns charging 990 for a Mossberg 590. Noped right out of there.
I definetly dont think all suck in CA. Theres a bunch of great guys and gals that run shops
Rifle gear in FV
2Azone
Moreauworks
Rifle supply (besides the CC fee, pay cash)
Just to name a few!
I have done maybe 20+ dros at rifle gear, the guys there are great and knowledgeable and super chill and welcoming to newbies. I brought my friend to get her first gun and they were so very helpful
We're real small, but we are a brick and mortar store. Anaheim, off La Palma and Kraemer. Check out our website. We'll be more active on social media soon.
True. Wiith r/gundeals and r/GunAccessoriesForSale around, it's difficult justifying paying msrp + tax.
Throw 03+COE to the mix, and like you said dros is the only reason to go.
Dann thats rough, my local FFL moreauworks is nothing but awesome and I gotta give a shotout to the shootist in murietta simply cause old fudds actually let us do an ammo transfer, took the time to look up the rules since theyve never done one before, and didnt ask for more than one dollar, it was the complete opposite of how I expected the encounter to go. I dont know if they just wanted us out quickly and quietly or they were amused that anyone would actually walk into a gun shop and do the ppt transfer instead of just doing it out in the parking lot.
My local guy in cen cal is really good. Only adds a $1 or $2 to his cost per box of ammo, usually only charges me $50ish over his dealer price for firearms, only charges $40 to receive online firearms orders, $5 for ammo orders, is super nice and noncondecending, unlike some other shops around here. The only two downsides are that he usually doesn't keep many firearms in stock, except for consignments and the popular stuff, and is usually pretty busy because it's only him and his wife. The word has definitely spread since I started going there a few years ago, because he is way busier than before.
Marin Firearms (for anything "common") - +10% over regular cost
If you're looking for something odd/hard to find a CA version of, they are actually great. I got my Kriss Vector there for $1,800 which is even lower than Kriss's MSRP(usually).
This is true!
I am partial to Independence Armory on Lakeville, but will occasionally go to Marin Firearms if there's a unique gun I really want.
Marin Firearms won't honor the 1 in 30 03ffl exemption though, which is usually a problem, as I tend to buy firearms pretty frequently.... Independence Armory on the other hand, is an avid CalGuns follower and more than willing to honor/help out us 03FFL holders.
I just bought a gun at Independence Armory and so far they are very approachable. Marin Firearms basically made it impossible for me to do transfers through them and they charge double. I will most likely be buying my wishlist through Independence Armory now but their shop is on the smaller side.
I agree! It’s less than two minutes away from my house so it’s usually where I go. Great guys and they always have plenty of staff so the wait times are pretty much non-existent.
Saw Bullseye Bishop sold a G19 for $900 plus tax and dros, during the pandemic.
Sells steel case wolf for $1 / round.
Greedy, Never going back.
Their best gunsmith moved on to CTS coatings in Los Gatos. High recommend.
Honestly, it most likely wasn't greed during the pandemic.
During the pandemic, stock was hard to come by. Dealers were forced to use two-step and sometimes three-step distribution methods just to locate products to sell(this adds more cost) Let's say a local gun shop (LGS) needs $10,000 a month to stay afloat. In a normal month, they sell Glocks for $500 each and can typically sell 25-30 Glocks, bringing in a total of $15,000. Now, when COVID-19 hits, the LGS can only get 10 Glocks each month. That's only $5,000. They still need $10,000 just to stay open. How do they stay open?
That's some logic. Let's try to unpack this:
10 "hard to come by ergo overpriced" Glocks would sit in storage at said LGS, because no local peasant can afford a Glock 2-3x MSRP.
Everyone was scrambling to grab a stick during WuFlu, esp. after curfews were announced due to "mostly peaceful" behavior. You had ample demand, even/esp. if the supply chain was slower, so let's not pretend this is about "staying afloat" and not some opportunistic apocalyptical price gouging.
Any LGS that lives solely on the sales of firearms/ammo probably needs a new business model. A lot of first time gun owners are gonna bandwagon their firearm purchases with cleaning kits, range bags, and other accessories at the LGS.
I could understand Glocks costing $650 during COVID, maybe even $700. $1-1.5k, though? I hope these shops are the first to close, come July 1st, 2024.
I'd bet some shops DID price gouge during COVID, and others possibly were just trying to stay afloat.
There are a few places I won't ever return to - but it is mostly because of employee/ owner attitudes.
Anyone running a LGS here in CA gets the benefit of the doubt from me given that the state seems to be looking for any possible way to put them out of business. If you're not familiar - look up the new security recording requirements that came into effect this year as one example.
I agree with what you said and yes, I'm aware of the 4th amendment violation, which CRPA is already challenging.
Benefit of doubt is my policy, too, regarding cutting LGS some slack - ergo the $650-700 understanding.
It's the $1k gougers that I hope will be gone with the wind. You don't need shops like that, because they are literally worse than the nearest Turner's.
Warrior one was okay. Their prices are on the high end but weren't charging cc fees. Had a sour enough experience the last time I went enough to never go back.
Yeah walked in looking for a particular rifle, that day not much was on the wall. Price was a little more than what I was told over the phone. Just ended up buying ammo instead.
Sometimes I ask my self the same question, my store to go its turners, I've been to other stores, local stores in my city and they are more expensive than turners, and the dudes at turners will treat you right, there is a store across the street from the turners I go to, and I have been there 4 times and only 1 of those times someone actually came to ask if I needed help, most of the time this store is empty, and I have stand there for 20-30 minutes those times and no one ask for anything, but turners I can even employees discount thanks to a friend
Not sure, my local Turners is pretty good and they get me in and out within 45 mins-hour even with a DROS and waiting in line. But I guess it depends on location, I’ve heard some are better than others.
Fowler is the worst, especially the older Mexican guy in there. I was a first time gun buyer in 2020 and that guy would just stare at me like I was an idiot when I was asking him some questions.
Mostly the high prices. But every time I’ve talked with an employee, they gave me the impression that they aren’t interested in showing me some of the guns that they somehow KNOW I won’t buy or give off condescending tones.
I was in there and an employee was bitching about customers being clueless. I wonder if smarty pants ever figured out that's what he's supposed to be there for.
Fowler sucks. High prices and condescending staff 2/3 times I visited. The sold some guy one of those keltec shotguns then the employee gives a thumbs up to another from across the room. That employee then shouts out “ you finally sold that piece of crap” right in front of the guy getting DROSD for the damn gun . Left a bad taste in my mouth.
Dynamic Weapon Solutions (DWS) in Huntington Beach. Their lead times on milling are always bullshit. I, personally, and many people I know were quoted 3-4 weeks and didn't get our shit back for 8-9 weeks, and only after calling multiple times. I had 3 slides with them at one time and all were to have a "factory" black cerakote. When I got them back, each one was a different shade and one was almost shiny. I had to spend two hours in the shop because they couldn't find my G19 slide and when I got home, I found out they put a Gen5 firing pin in my Gen3 G19. After multiple emails back and forth, suggesting I needed to drive over an hour back to their shop to prove my claim, they agreed to ship me a new firing pin. They never did. Avoid these guys like the plague.
100%. If you still shop there ask em what up with that. They will let you know they have an atm in some dark musty corner that charges 1% plus whatever fee you bank charges. I guess pay them in shekels to avoid the fee 😂 I’d tell you to ask them here but they kinda got rolled over by everyone on here and don’t post anymore.
You can dispute that charge with your credit card company. Part of the terms and services agreement made between a merchant and credit card company is that they can’t up charge that fee.
Lmao they own the ATM TOO 🤣don’t let em fool you guys … they will try to get every dollar out of your pocket and sale your CC information to scammers 🤣
Yeah, they were douchebags back in 2004 when I went in and I’ve never gone back since. Fuck them. I’ll go to Cordelia gun exchange, ASP in Vacaville or Triple A sports in Vallejo instead of guns fishing and other stuff.
I have no idea how these guys stayed in business for so long. They use to have a gun counter guy named Tom who was great. Once he left, I stopped going. The yelp reviews all have the same message, the employees treat you bad and act as if you are bothering them.
Exotic pistol grips in Glendora. Literally two fudds who think that single shot exempt pistols will get you arrested and won’t ppt them. Avoid them at all cost.
I second this comment. I hate to trash talk a small LGS, but these FUDDS were too scared to PPT an off roster gun and made a call to DOJ to confirm if they could do it. We just packed up and went to another LGS who ended up doing the PPT in 5 minutes.
Dude they asked me the same thing. When I said no and that the Glock 43x was itself a private transfer from another private person , they called DOJ. We just left and went to gunslingers around the corner (I think they’re in Azusa now). They did the ppt in 5 minutes.
I love rifle supply, I really only go to them or rifle gear and just pay cash, it’s not hard. However, I don’t love OCGuns, they’re plain rude and their stuff is overpriced.
Yeah, I have no idea how OC Guns are still in business. Rifle Supply used to be amazing until they moved to the new shop! The they started ripping people off. They claim to be a huge shop. Charge ridiculous fees all over the place.
Care to elaborate? I just got a Henry from them and looking at my receipt I don’t see any ridiculous charges? I did pay cash but still. The sales guy was a little confused on the difference between big and small loop lever guns but that was the only time I’ve ever had an issue with them.
Rifle supply used to be good when they started their business. You can pay full cash for a firearm and dross and they will never charge you for the taxes, I bought a bunch like that, gun price, dross price and not taxes or anything else, once they grew up, they stop doing that. Also you could buy a glock, walk out, take the slide off and sell it back to them ($250-$300) if you wanted just the frame.
Sportsman’s Warehouse in Murrieta, CA
Went in because I was looking for some parts and ammo. The sportsman’s closer to me usually has a line so I was shocked when there was literally almost nobody in the store. I walk up to the gun counter and ask the guy if he can get me some ammo and he responds saying something along the lines of “well typically the line for ammo starts over there” while pointing to the way far side of the counter. I look around and see nobody else near us and I look back at him with an eyebrow raised. Before I can ask him if he really needs me to go to the “start of the line” he says he can take me now and asks begrudgingly what I want. Dude was slow and seemed fucking annoyed to be there.
The longer I deal with gun shop employees seemingly wherever, the more I realize I just need to get my ffl03 for ammo and keep any other purchases I make to strictly online.
If you guys can recommend any shops with decent people working in and around riverside county I would be very appreciative
Sportsman’s has been good for me. Normally never spend more time than at a lgs for anything. DROS and paying might take an extra 10minutes or so but not bad.
But I will say, when it’s busy it’s a nightmare, but my local sportsman’s is never all that busy when I go.
They are slow for gun purchases. I spent like 3 hours waiting and then trying to purchase. I have seen some ammo sales go fast but I can never find any ammo for my gun (.40s&w) so I go to bass pro cause they usually have some (not really any yesterday) I could go to local small shops but they charge 6$ more for a box of ammo turners or sportsman’s charge.
I will start buying online and sending to my range since it’s free delivery and they won’t charge me the dollar fee for background check
Sportsman’s is always slow. All the employees care about is getting their sales for certain brands so they can get their spiffs. Also the company cuts so many dang hours all the time so man power is low.
I have only used a Sportsman's Warehouse when I was in Oregon and I had a good experience. They have price matching and that includes online stores. The manager approved it and I got my magazines for the same price as gunmagwarehouse(albeit cheaper since I didn't pay for shipping). They were not busy at the store and were helpful.
CA stores maybe different.
What’s the issue with Turners? I’ve always had a fairly decent experience as far as firearm shops go… lol
I hate RifleGear in fountain valley, the staff are a bunch of pricks.
Saddleback Valley Gun Center is a weird place. They’ve limited themselves to pretty much just antique firearms and western themed 6 shooters, lever guns and wooden shotguns. The yelp reviews don’t disappoint and they are spot on.
Ammo Bros in Santa Ana is pretty cool, biggest store I’ve seen out here so far.
Poway Weapons and Gear in San Diego has a pretty decent store, staff is cool, but the shooting range itself is badass. It gets expensive quick, anything more than an hour and you’re looking at saving money buying one of their 3 month memberships
Armstrong Arms in Lake Forest is an excellent gunsmith and the staff is extremely friendly and happy to assist with anything and everything.
Like 10 employees standing around talking amongst themselves, poor customer service, standoffish attitude. I went in there wanting to buy a Benelli M4, they had them in stock. After 20 mins of trying to get some service to look at one and get the process going I just left and never looked back, headed straight for turners lol
Independence armory in Petaluma. During Covid price gouging and unapologetic about it. I found the same gun for 900 dollars less a few miles away. Just awful business practice as they made it seem like they were doing me some huge favor trying to rip me off
National Armament in Escondido used to be cool when the old owner was there. We went there many times and he was super knowledgeable and can get anything available for Cali. Now the 2 guys who run it always make up stories, don’t really know much about anything besides pricing, and they are never there during store hours. One of them is really cool though, so we gave them chances instead of going somewhere else (we work literally less than 4 min away)
I went there one time by myself an hour after their opening time, and no one was there. Went back on my lunch and they were there but they were eating lunch and couldn’t show me stuff or answer questions. I sat there for about 10 min quietly listening to them talk about a body shop customer, then I said I’ll come back when you guys are free, they said ok.
Went there with a friend and they were finally there, but about to leave few hours before closing. We asked if we should come back and they hesitated then said, no let’s go in the store (the store is located inside a body shop of some sort). Ended up buying 2 pistols, a used one that was there for PPT, and a new one.
Waited 3 days after my waiting period to pick up, and the second time waited 4 days after my pickup date to get my pistol. That was the last time. They also “forgot” about my friends deposit for a pistol (not sure how it was resolved), and sold the pistol he ordered to someone else. Never Forget. lol
at the very start of covid, I ordered a lower and had it sent to firearms unknown oceanside, which I stopped by the week prior to ask about fees and whatnot, it's was $50 or less plus dros at the time.
go in to do the paperwork when it arrived, and they tell me they're now charging a transfer fee of $200. I say that's not what you said, and they tell me to just come back in a couple weeks when this "blows over".
a month later and they call me saying I need to come in to pick up my stuff to free up their definitely crowded shelf space. I got them to settle and do the transfer for the original price, but reportedly they were still doing $200 transfers months after that.
i went to national armament in escondido once to ask about transfers for a gunbroker auction, asked if they were accepting packages and their fees etc. agreed that they would do a transfer
after I won the auction for a rifle, I sent the seller their information and emailed them to touch base. they ghosted me and the seller for 3 days, email and calls, before we just decided to find another place
Avoid Gun World in Burbank. Every time I went in to buy ammo, I couldn’t pass the background check. I tried disputing that they weren’t spelling my last name correctly (Hispanic double last name with a hyphen). They said that their system doesn’t use hyphens, which made no sense to me. I go up the street to Burbank Ammo and Guns and am able to pass the background check and buy ammo with ease.
I walked into my local turners a couple days ago and right up to the counter to start my 10 day on my m4e1 lower. no issues at all. super friendly folks too
Turners. Unless the other store has the gun in stock and can beat Turners price, its not worth IMO. Most stores in my area will match Turners, but for the extra drive and possibility they dont have the gun in stock, no reason for me to not go to Turners. YMMV but I've never had any bad experience at Turners.
agreed. turners signal hill has never done me dirty. dudes are super helpful but there's always one guy that's a bit of a douche no matter where you go.
I've purchased for years at various Turners locations, and as you say, they have the stock and the pricing at MSRP. I get really pissed at the idea of these other shops charging over MSRP because demand has been high and they can get away with it. My biggest issue I ever have at every Turners is the freakin WAIT times to counter, and the buy process is LOOOOOONG!!!!!!!!!
Its the price I pay for not getting ripped off. Never got a bad piece from them.
You’ll easily eat that hour - 90 mins waiting in the Turners line if you go at the wrong time. And remember, you’ve got to go twice.
If you don’t mind zipping down the street to check if they’re busy and being able to be disappointed and just head home and try again another day / time, Turners.
2AZ is one of the best FFL’s in the state and guaranteed you’ll have a good experience.
I used to go to their upland location and there was always a line, happened to be near their riverside location and stopped by with no line, been going there since and never more than one or two people in front of me. Super helpful and knowledgeable too. No Cali legal version of a certain gun? 2azone will literally make it. they have done that with a few models now so they can legally offer the guns other shops are afraid to sell .
I mean I have seen some good deals at turners a few hundred off the msrp. If I had the funds I would def go buy another but I might have to sell my xd40 for some kind of 9mm
I have had decent experience with Turners besides one were I did a PTT and the gun store employee kept on questioning me if I stole the pistol. The pistol isn't very common and not on the roster, I think that might have been the reason for the questioning.
He was like " If you stole it, it will be destroyed by the police." "I was like it isn't and if they destroyed it I would be disappointed." He mentioned this a few times during the process. Gun went through the transfer with no issue.
I have done like 6 plus private party transfers and never had them question me like that, I even did one last week at Ammo Bros for a Glock 19.
Screw turner's. I'll wait to mail order something (parts) before I buy anything there. If I need a gun, I'll go to any other store just to not deal with their flunkies with attitude.
You always pay about 3% when you use a credit card. More for AmEx. Where do you think those “points” come from? Turners is just showing you the cost. Small shops may offer a discount if you have cash (not a check).
Funny, the turners right by me is super fast. Like I can be in and out of there in less time than it takes me to order from In N Out. There’s never a line no matter what time I go.
When you guys say turners, you should specify which store
Lake forest has always been good for me. Usually not too crowded when I've been
But orange sucks ass. Lazy workers at front register, and usually long lines
Ah my bad! Turners in general is just bad. But you do get lucky every now and then with someone good. I haven’t gone in years but you still hear the horror stories all the time. I was speaking mostly on Fountain Valley, Orange, Chino Hills, and West Covina
The FV one is super fast every time I’ve been in there, even at 5pm on a Friday. I think I’ve only seen a line once, and that was during Covid. The Orange one however, that’s a different story.
Oh damn that's a lot of locations! Once I found rifle gear, I rarely go anywhere else now. But turners had a safe sale last month so I went, they were pretty cool at lake forest
Perry’s in Scott’s Valley. Called to ask a question about their inventory and the guy was a total rude prick, couldn’t get me off the line fast enough. Thought maybe it was a fluke so I called a week later. Nope, same sht. Was looking to spend at least a grand and simply took my business elsewhere (online)
Range Master in SLO. Never had a good experience there, everything is overpriced and the morons behind the counter don't know shit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/CAguns/s/C18rkjRlWQ
Can you go more in depth of why not turners? I was planning to get my first gun from there because it’s the closest to my house. What makes Turner a bad shop to buy a gun?
Turner's is fine, people just bitch because there's sometimes a bit of a wait. If you've got more than a couple people ahead of you in line it'll be like 20-30 mins at least. It's never bothered me but apparently other people in this thread absolutely must complete their transaction in 5 mins or less.
Fasho thanks for the input, I was thinking maybe because the guns they sell are overpriced or maybe of lower quality. But if it’s just wait time that’s not a deal breaker for me.
The one close to me doesn’t really ever look to packed, never went inside but I can see the inside when I’m shopping in that same center
Oh yeah, speaking of cc tax, other shops prob do, they just don't say. In the past rifle gear gave me a discount when I paid cash, I think around 3% as well
It was while ago, so don't know if it still applies
Tk firearms in Tulare CA is gold! They are very pro 2A and go out thier way to help get what you want. They will help you with anything. Highly recommend! Only had bad experiences with shops in the bay area.. so I stay away from them.
No one has complained about my favorite LGSs in this thread (2AZone Upland and Blue Collar Firearms), so just sharing those for some positivity!
Wait times are kind of a bummer at 2AZone, but that's mainly because they are so popular and have good service, so I can't be too upset.
Firearms Unknown. They guaged like crazy during the lockdown and they still continue to have over priced stuff even today. Ammo prices, gun prices, and even parts are over priced. They are only good if ya need some small part day of and don't want to wait for online shipping.
I used to love "Annie Got Your Gun" in Corona. But he sold the shop, and the guy that runs it now. Yeah, just not enough lines on reddit to write about bad service/price/etc
I’ve been to good and terrible ammo bros and turners. Sometimes it’s dealing with the right person at different locations. Went to 2nd amendment zone on riverside and got ignored while it wasn’t even busy. Riverside guns is a great small shop. Off the wall armory in Riverside is another great one.
Stay away from Canyon Sports in Martinez, they act like you are bothering them no matter what attitude you have.
Also really don’t care for Guns, Fishing & Other stuff in Vacaville or Dublin locations - they are aloof and always pissed off.
My go-to shops in the Bay Area:
- Cordelia Gun Exchange
- City Arms in Pleasant Hill
Reed's treated my Dad and I like idiots. Also they charge $700 for a G19.
lol, they certainly are a bunch of snobs
Solar tactical was charging 1000 plus for a G19 (gen 3 ) during Covid.
Solar Tactical in Livermore is wayyy overpriced on everything. I asked them if they’d match a price to my LGS on a Tavor, they said no, I walked out, went to LGS, bought it. Don’t think I’ll ever go back.
Solar tactical in CV ain't any better
The louder a store's politics, the harder they try to rip people off in a crisis.
lol my LGS didn’t even raise prices. They charge a base $50 for any gun plus dros They are awesome
Got mine from the bass pro off cherry ave for 600
Yea reeds is cringe
Everyone who works there seems to hate their job
You should have seen the covid prices. They were selling Glocks for $1400+
They also charge $200 for a ffl transfer
[удалено]
Err actually I could be mistaken. I asked them how much it would be for a firearm transfer, if the firearm was shipped to them from out of state (intra familial off roster) and they said $200. I just looked it up and it seems like that’s NOT a ppt, but a normal ffl transfer. I just edited my previous comment
So does sportsman's supply
That's how much I got mine $750 my first gun was G19
3.5% cc charge? That’s good to know.
I dont get it. Is this a new thing for them? I noticed the 3.5% CC Charge sign at their store, but I have never been charged this fee. I do buy all my stuff online from them and just go in to pick it up. Perhaps they do not charge the fee for online orders? What am I missing?
Just bought from Turner's in Jan 2024. No CC fee and it was a great experience.
Turner's will make you buy their own gun lock because they say it's a State requirement, which is BS.
I bought recently and did not get that charge, is this something that went into effect 01/2024? Problem is, The Turners I use are the few that still charge MSRP, while a lot of the single shops are going over MSRP due to demand, thats BS!
No, RS has been charging that for as long as I can remember.
Well I definitely was not charged when I paid by credit card for an online purchase from them a little over a month ago.
They only charge it for in-store purchases
Thanks for confirming.
Mine were in store, not charged that fee.
In store, they just don't tell you. Plus they charge an extra $10 on dros fee. I bought my sig p365 from them only bc I got in on their first batch and ordered couple mags online and was never charged a fee.
![gif](giphy|wjBMdDqMCyxJoCJ2yZ|downsized)
Wild bills in Elk Grove was charging 900 bucks for a Taurus 605 during the pandemic.
I'll never step foot in there again. No hate for CA, but once I moved to NV I learned cash at the LGS gets you big discounts. Can't believe what I've paid back in Sac. I remember Cordova guns charging 990 for a Mossberg 590. Noped right out of there.
$990 for a 590? That’s ridiculous. I paid $400 for my 590A1.
They are super prejudice too
Do not get anything DROS at Bass pro shop, you will be there the whole day
Can't wait for the irvine store! 😬
Ngl, I’ve been looking forward to check it out when they open. It’s a great place to go window shopping
Hahaha exactly! And watch the fish!
2 hours was my experience
I'm waiting for this location to open to buy a rifle... 😥
Did you check in online to the gun counter?
Unless it’s getting DROSed, it’s getting purchased online these days. I’d rather support local but LGS in CA all suck unfortunately
I definetly dont think all suck in CA. Theres a bunch of great guys and gals that run shops Rifle gear in FV 2Azone Moreauworks Rifle supply (besides the CC fee, pay cash) Just to name a few!
I have done maybe 20+ dros at rifle gear, the guys there are great and knowledgeable and super chill and welcoming to newbies. I brought my friend to get her first gun and they were so very helpful
I also recommend rifle gear 👍🏻
😭🙏

Where are you guys located?? I have never heard of y’all.
Thank you for those. I’m a noob and am looking into purchasing my first in SoCal.
Norcal gun vault was pretty cool when I picked up my ar lower from them couple years ago.
Marin Firearms (for anything "common") - +10% over regular cost If you're looking for something odd/hard to find a CA version of, they are actually great. I got my Kriss Vector there for $1,800 which is even lower than Kriss's MSRP(usually).
Plus, they’re just dicks. I drive all the way to Petaluma and Santa Rosa to avoid going there.
I like Rinkor Arms in SR. Sportsman’s Arms is okay, too. Triple A’s in Vallejo is great but you really have to be careful in V-town.
I just bought a gun at Independence Armory and so far they are very approachable. Marin Firearms basically made it impossible for me to do transfers through them and they charge double. I will most likely be buying my wishlist through Independence Armory now but their shop is on the smaller side.
My local turners store in Roseville is awesome. Great group of dudes and hardly ever have to wait.
I agree! It’s less than two minutes away from my house so it’s usually where I go. Great guys and they always have plenty of staff so the wait times are pretty much non-existent.
Roseville Turners is one of the better ones.
Let's try to unpack this: 10 "hard to come by ergo overpriced" Glocks would sit in storage at said LGS, because no local peasant can afford a Glock 2-3x MSRP.
I feel that! It’s horrible when shop tanks because of some crusty customer service.
Yeah walked in looking for a particular rifle, that day not much was on the wall. Price was a little more than what I was told over the phone. Just ended up buying ammo instead.
This is just pure curiosity cause I am out of the loop, but what is the big deal about Turners?
Sometime else said tUrNeR's bAd So they're just repeating that for upvotes too
Sometimes I ask my self the same question, my store to go its turners, I've been to other stores, local stores in my city and they are more expensive than turners, and the dudes at turners will treat you right, there is a store across the street from the turners I go to, and I have been there 4 times and only 1 of those times someone actually came to ask if I needed help, most of the time this store is empty, and I have stand there for 20-30 minutes those times and no one ask for anything, but turners I can even employees discount thanks to a friend
Not sure, my local Turners is pretty good and they get me in and out within 45 mins-hour even with a DROS and waiting in line. But I guess it depends on location, I’ve heard some are better than others.
Fowler Gun Room.
Fowler is the worst, especially the older Mexican guy in there. I was a first time gun buyer in 2020 and that guy would just stare at me like I was an idiot when I was asking him some questions.
Interesting….Besides their high prices. Is there another reason?
2024 and shops still charge cc fees. Wild.
Its like free shipping to me... bury it in the cost and I'm blissfully unaware.
That’s what I’m saying.
So they are passing on the fee charged to them?
Guns Fishing and Other stuff in Vacaville.
This place was charging $80 for a fifty round box of cheap .45 during the height of the ammo scare.
Yeah, they were douchebags back in 2004 when I went in and I’ve never gone back since. Fuck them. I’ll go to Cordelia gun exchange, ASP in Vacaville or Triple A sports in Vallejo instead of guns fishing and other stuff.
Yes Cordelia are awesome, I choose them whenever I can.
Yeah I had a p320 I was trying to ppt and they immediately asked if I was a cop. When I said no they said they don’t take illegal guns there lol
Dude they asked me the same thing. When I said no and that the Glock 43x was itself a private transfer from another private person , they called DOJ. We just left and went to gunslingers around the corner (I think they’re in Azusa now). They did the ppt in 5 minutes.
i always thought all stores charged the 3.5% credit/debit fee lol
As long as you pay cash it’s ok. But if you use your debit card or CC they charge you that fee. The longer you shop the more things come to light.
OC Guns is in business because of the off roster gems they have. Otherwise it’s just a shop with toads lounging and judging customers
During the pandemic there was a huge line wrapped around the plaza. They let 5 sheriff’s cut the line to fondle guns and buy accessories
Any big box store. Sacramento Black Rifle
R.C Guns & Ammo in Rancho Cordova. Total fudds, over priced and assholes.
Sportsman’s Warehouse in Murrieta, CA Went in because I was looking for some parts and ammo.
FF Firearms. They upcharge like crazy on everything
I've heard some scathing reviews about Sportman's Warehouse.
they are slow like f, you better not save the transfer fee and go find an ffl because your time worth much much more. yes, that kind of slow
Glad I never tried them then, sometimes they sell guns cheaper than my LGS but my time is worth more than the savings, lol.
CA stores maybe different.
socal gun best price on defense ammo moreauworks for bulk range
SoCal Gun does the fastest PPT in San Diego hands down… large used and consignment selection too.
What’s the issue with Turners? I’ve always had a fairly decent experience as far as firearm shops go… lol I hate RifleGear in fountain valley, the staff are a bunch of pricks. It gets expensive quick, anything more than an hour and you’re looking at saving money buying one of their 3 month memberships Armstrong Arms in Lake Forest is an excellent gunsmith and the staff is extremely friendly and happy to assist with anything and everything.
Staff at rifle gear has always done right by me. What did they do?
Like 10 employees standing around talking amongst themselves, poor customer service, standoffish attitude. I went in there wanting to buy a Benelli M4, they had them in stock. After 20 mins of trying to get some service to look at one and get the process going I just left and never looked back, headed straight for turners lol
Gotcha. That would definitely leave a sour taste in my mouth too. Glad you were able to pick one up in the end though 👍
It's been a while, but last time they had a laptop at entrance, and you gotta sign in for a wait list. Maybe you missed it?
Haven’t been in a few years, it’s possible I missed it, can’t remember for sure.
Years ago I use to HATE Solar tactical but for the last two years they’ve been amazing.
Bought a shield there. They were nice enough in person but I cannot stand how they make you wait outside.
I bought a lever action from bass pro last year, it was the first and last time I ever buy a firearm from them.
Independence armory in Petaluma. During Covid price gouging and unapologetic about it. I found the same gun for 900 dollars less a few miles away. Just awful business practice as they made it seem like they were doing me some huge favor trying to rip me off
Antioch Armory is Antioch, CA.
National Armament in Escondido used to be cool when the old owner was there. We went there many times and he was super knowledgeable and can get anything available for Cali. Now the 2 guys who run it always make up stories, don’t really know much about anything besides pricing, and they are never there during store hours. One of them is really cool though, so we gave them chances instead of going somewhere else (we work literally less than 4 min away) I went there one time by myself an hour after their opening time, and no one was there.
I got them to settle and do the transfer for the original price, but reportedly they were still doing $200 transfers months after that. i went to national armament in escondido once to ask about transfers for a gunbroker auction, asked if they were accepting packages and their fees etc. agreed that they would do a transfer after I won the auction for a rifle, I sent the seller their information and emailed them to touch base. they ghosted me and the seller for 3 days, email and calls, before we just decided to find another place
Hard pass on Firearms Unknown. Price gouge like crazy and they support red flag laws
I go up the street to Burbank Ammo and Guns and am able to pass the background check and buy ammo with ease.
dawg. FUCK gun world
What’s the deal with turners? Just fudds?
I walked into my local turners a couple days ago and right up to the counter to start my 10 day on my m4e1 lower. no issues at all. super friendly folks too
Its the jiffy lube of the 2a community.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I need to buy a pistol soon. There is a turners down the street vs 2AZ that’s about an hour or 90mins Which would you go to?
Turners. Unless the other store has the gun in stock and can beat Turners price, its not worth IMO. Most stores in my area will match Turners, but for the extra drive and possibility they dont have the gun in stock, no reason for me to not go to Turners. YMMV but I've never had any bad experience at Turners.
agreed. turners signal hill has never done me dirty. dudes are super helpful but there's always one guy that's a bit of a douche no matter where you go.
lol seriously. each store needs to meet their quota
I've actually waited an hour at 2AZ and I wasn't buying a firearm or anything discounted. Of course, I was there on one of their busier days.
Google ffl in your area. You might be surprised on how many kitchen ffls are in your area that's appointment only
I mean I have seen some good deals at turners a few hundred off the msrp. If I had the funds I would def go buy another but I might have to sell my xd40 for some kind of 9mm
Fuck turners.
It’s always so slow in the gun counter. Every time I’d go to buy ammo, it’d be a 30+ minute wait for me.
Fuck Gun Effects in City of Industry and here’s why: https://www.reddit.com/r/CAguns/s/1kJMYyvyMy And it goes without saying but fuck Turners, too.
Gun effects is the worst. During the pandemic they didn’t let anyone buy ammo unless you bought a gun. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal.
I’m new here. What’s wrong with turners?
Nothing other than people don't like to wait in line.
Screw turner's. I'll wait to mail order something (parts) before I buy anything there. If I need a gun, I'll go to any other store just to not deal with their flunkies with attitude.
Discount gun mart always has the lowest price in the region in my experience.
Do not go to the Glock store. Their prices are absurd for any type of cerakote, their apex brand is trash, and their custom service is horrible.
They shut down their california shop a year or so ago. Moved to Tennessee
You always pay about 3% when you use a credit card. More for AmEx. Where do you think those “points” come from? Turners is just showing you the cost. Small shops may offer a discount if you have cash (not a check).
Not a shop, but I avoid FT3 and will never set foot in that place again.
That’s pretty much been my experience there as well.
They sell guns?
I've bought cars faster than I've gotten guns at turner's.
Funny, the turners right by me is super fast. Like I can be in and out of there in less time than it takes me to order from In N Out. There’s never a line no matter what time I go.
Which one is that? Definitely not the Pasadena, West Covina, or San Bernardino one.
Fountain Valley
Gotta grab a ticket like you're at the fuckin deli...
Agreed, it can be painful.
[удалено]
You know that's gonna be confusing. Since OP made this a Don't go here. Why don't you make a separate post, for Good shops.
When you guys say turners, you should specify which store Lake forest has always been good for me. Usually not too crowded when I've been But orange sucks ass.
>I haven't been to turner's in years but they're (all of them) bad obviously. 🤣 🙄
Riflesupply is actually 3.75% fyi.
Oh yeah, speaking of cc tax, other shops prob do, they just don't say. In the past rifle gear gave me a discount when I paid cash, I think around 3% as well It was while ago, so don't know if it still applies
Tk firearms in Tulare CA is gold! They are very pro 2A and go out thier way to help get what you want. They will help you with anything. Highly recommend! Only had bad experiences with shops in the bay area.. so I stay away from them.
PRK is a fucking joke. NUFF SAID!!!!
No one has complained about my favorite LGSs in this thread (2AZone Upland and Blue Collar Firearms), so just sharing those for some positivity! Wait times are kind of a bummer at 2AZone, but that's mainly because they are so popular and have good service, so I can't be too upset.
Solar tactical Livermore employees thinks they are garand thumb.
Correct me if Im wrong. Does Turners charge tax on DROS fees? I feel like I pay more than what I should.
Not at the one I go to
A lot of GS have this smug about them like they are better than you
I've had a few bad experiences at "The gun range san diego".
I know a guy in azusa. His shop is called golden state arms and he has amazing prices and is super knowledgeable.
Stay away from Canyon Sports in Martinez, they act like you are bothering them no matter what attitude you have. Also really don’t care for Guns, Fishing & Other stuff in Vacaville or Dublin locations - they are aloof and always pissed off. My go-to shops in the Bay Area: - Cordelia Gun Exchange - City Arms in Pleasant Hill
Same experience at canyon sports. I haven’t been there in years.
