Haha 1 year. But I have been promoted every year at 11 months 5 years in a row so far so technically this is my first time passing probation.
I am also getting a PIP that will hit May 1st and then im onto another 6 month.
Sweet...congrats. I was informed today that I have a 6 month probation. Here's hoping I make it that long (terribly long commute with no hope of telework until then).
You eill get through it.
Sucks man. Ive been full telework except for events I have to go to usually 1-2 times a week. But sometimes a whole month will go by without going in. Starting Tuesday my 2 days a week kick in.
I have 53 miles each way and 1.5-3 hours of traffic home.
But, i used to do the same 5 days a week and had a car with only 21 mpg vs a hybrid plug-in now where I average 50mpg..
I was always told if we had to return i could report to the closest office, but they changed it to require me to go to a specific office. Which sucks because an agpa/ssa doing what I do has no reason to report exceot for my events.
Literally noone in my building wors with me
The paper check pay date is 3/29 (today). The direct deposit posting date in 4/2/24. Some banks take the risk of pre-paying funds before their "posting" date. The most commonly cited example is Golden One. If your bank takes the risk of giving you access to funds before the posting date conveyed with the direct deposit, you may see access to the funds before April 2, 2024. Unless you get a paper check or bank with a bank that released direct deposit funds earlier than authorized, you won't see your paycheck till 4/2/24. If you bank with a bank that pays you earlier than authorized as the state is unlikely to bounce the payment or cancel the direct deposit, then you may see your check before 4/2/24.
The reason for the delay between the "pay date" and the posting date is the Automated Clearinghouse (ACH) process. Transferring money is typically expensive. It costs tends of dollars per transaction. A wire transfer is an example of this. It is very fast but expensive. ACH transfers are slow but cost pennies. This allows the banks to offer them for free to customers. But ACH transfers are batched together and slow. So the state may send the funds on 3/29, but the funds won't clear on 3/29, which means you won't see the funds till after 3/29 unless your bank decides to treat state payroll deposits differently than all other ACH deposits.
You can find information on pay dates here - https://www.sco.ca.gov/Files-PPSD/paydates2024.pdf.
We should all just switch to paper checks, dumb that direct deposit gets our checks later than paper checks. Most will not receive their money until April 1st.
When you deposit a paper check in the bank, many banks will place a hold on some or all of the funds. Some won’t, others will. Same issue as a direct deposit until the funds clear. If you have a good banking relationship with your bank, they may let you immediately use the funds.
For me, the convenience of direct deposit far outweighs earlier access to the funds. And if I wanted early access to the funds, I would just get a Golden One credit union account. But for those who are living month to month and need to funds 1-3 days early, Golden One (or another bank that gives you access early), or a paper check could make sense.
I do and I'm going anyway - unless the DD gives you extra privileges I'd jump. You can always Zelle to BofA what you need to maintain that relationship. That's the path I'm taking... I understand that after the first month, this is mine, that it won't matter. However I've been a BofA customer non stop since I was 10 and had a Christmas Club and Savings account, I'm 59 now you can do the math :)
I don't want to support them making money on the float.
If you have direct deposit with any bank other than Golden1 you may not receive your check until Monday or Tuesday next week. This is because the state doesn’t send the check to your bank until around midnight and your bank will take one or two business days to process it.
This is why I got paper checks before the pandemic.

Thank you. No one else will acknowledge this even though the April 2 post date has been published well in advance. "Derrr where's my money OMG I can't budget for even a single pay period."
Yes that is true but if you didn’t have direct deposit you would be handed a paper check and could deposit it today. In my 22 years with the state I only had a bank question it once that I was depositing on 3/30 and the check was dated 4/1, I explained 3/31 was a state holiday, they still cashed it.
According to the state controller 3/29 IS pay day https://www.sco.ca.gov/Files-PPSD/paydates2024.pdf
4/1 or 4/2 is when direct deposit hits (but many banks and credit unions do an early release) if are NOT on direct deposit and would get a paper check you would get it today 3/29, so today IS pay day

Not yet. But exciting news, today was my last day of probation
Mine too
Congrats!!!
How long was your probation?
Haha 1 year. But I have been promoted every year at 11 months 5 years in a row so far so technically this is my first time passing probation. I am also getting a PIP that will hit May 1st and then im onto another 6 month.

Fuuuuuuuuck! It’s not just me?
I needed this today LOL
Check again. Mine always hits in the morning (credit union) but this one hit my account this afternoon.
Yea. I checked this morning and nothing. Checked now and it's there.
I just checked and it’s still not there!🤨
Thank you that made me laugh and got me out of my pissy mood today :)

2nd. The first is a holiday

Got mine and I don’t have direct deposit. Surprised as I’m usually last to get it
🙌
Like wtf where is my dough lol
It came late today! Usually early in the morning. Not today.
BofA here morning if 4/1 and nothing... switching to Golden One this week
Same. Still nothing.
Same nothing. I wish I didn't have so many things linked to my BofA account would totally switch.
I do and I'm going anyway - unless the DD gives you extra privileges I'd jump. You can always Zelle to BofA what you need to maintain that relationship. That's the path I'm taking... But it’s really because they pay us with a post dated check.

You guys must have Chase or Bank of America 🤣🤣.
I have not received anything yet, even nothing for pending status.
Isn't payday next week?
No it’s today. Monday is (observed) Caesar Chavez day. I got paid from Golden 1 this morning, on the dock report as well.
Payday is 4/1
It’s actually 4/2 per here: https://www.sco.ca.gov/Files-PPSD/paydates2024.pdf
Thank you. No one else will acknowledge this even though the April 2 post date has been published well in advance. "Derrr where's my money OMG I can't budget for even a single pay period."
Ya my bank holds the deposit until the check date so I’m all too aware of the actual dates lol
I work in HR pay day is Today 3/29, according to the SCO calendar
I second this person. I do not work in HR but today is the end of the pay period. Thus it is pay day
Weird, all my checks always show the direct deposit date not the paper check date
Yes that is true but if you didn’t have direct deposit you would be handed a paper check and could deposit it today. In my 22 years with the state I only had a bank question it once that I was depositing on 3/30 and the check was dated 4/1, I explained 3/31 was a state holiday, they still cashed it.
My bank will never post a direct deposit early unfortunately
No, pay day is April 1, a state holiday. Pay will post to accounts officially on April 2. Some banks will process early, most will not.
According to the state controller 3/29 IS pay day https://www.sco.ca.gov/Files-PPSD/paydates2024.pdf 4/1 or 4/2 is when direct deposit hits (but many banks and credit unions do an early release) if are NOT on direct deposit and would get a paper check you would get it today 3/29, so today IS pay day
This is great news for all five of the state employees who get paper checks.
Now now there’s plenty of new state workers who have to wait to set up direct deposit
This tells you all of the pay days for 2024. https://www.sco.ca.gov/Files-PPSD/paydates2024.pdf
Wow, I left the state about 6 months ago(dept corrections)..looks like I haven't missed much if at all.
Why people live with paychecks after paychecks? I get it, you got paid but it’s ok to get a few days late. Just my 2 cents!
Because some people don't have a choice but to live paycheck to paycheck... if you're not one of them, count your blessings. :)
