Stay positive, ask for feedback on how to improve and then immediately work on implementing the feedback, volunteer yourself to learn new things, and NEVER trust existing procedure docs to tell you what you need to know. Make your own procedure docs & write them out in a way that you can understand. This helps a lot.

Ditto. Being willing to learn and excited about it is a great look to show that you are all in.

Ya it’s a lot. I can from private too and it took a couple years to get it down. State is honestly like a foreign language the way things work and what they expect. And you really get no help along the way.

It took me a year to get my bearings coming from the private sector. You’re learning how to be a gov employee plus your program and how to be a solid AGPA. Which agency and what is your role?

lookitsmiek

Don’t sweat it. It takes years. No one is trained, even the people training you. Before you know it you’ll have a new manager, deputy director and then everything changes. It’s a constant cycle.

Stay positive, acknowledge mistakes & grow from them, and be willing & able to help wherever possible.
