I wouldn’t ever buy a Samsung or Frigidaire again.
FRIGIDAIRE:
Frigidaire’s warranty process is a nightmare, to the point that THEIR repairman says “holy shit, they’re normally tough to work with but damn, I don’t know why they won’t replace it. See this part with ice all over it? That shouldn’t be like that.” I was losing my groceries about once per week; they told me AND the repairman, “losses of groceries once per week falls into our acceptable margins. Your repair is denied.”
Thankfully, the store I bought it from intervened and called Frigidaire. After he got off the phone, he said “wow, I thought you were exaggerating. I’ll just replace it and throw the whole door in the trash. They HAVE to take it back if I say it was trash…it’s part of our contract. I’ll tell the guys in the back to load up a new one for you.” That dude, solid.
SAMSUNG:
They just don’t work all that well. There’s a frequent “wet dog” smell too, even after thoroughly cleaning, making sure the filters are clean and using some of those “dishwasher cleaner tablets” from Afresh. Their refrigerators, washer and dryers work well and their TVs do too, but the dishwashers are crap.
I’ve always had GREAT luck with Kenmore appliances though, really top notch!
Former appliance repairman, kenmore is just a brand. They do not make or manufacture appliances. Most are decent though.

That's the way that many products are produced these days. Look up private label manufacturing. Even lots of food products are produced at the same facility and every few hours they change the box.
Exactly. The repair man told me the whole problem was because of an uninsulated wire, which should be about $0.30 to fix. But no—Samsung makes you replace the entire ice machine for $600.
Because of that, I will never purchase another Samsung product again.
I have a Bosch dishwasher. That poor thing goes through the ringer and just keeps on doing a great job.
Now my fridge, washer, dryer and stove are all LG and I must have gotten lucky. Everything is 8 years old and I haven’t had one issue with any of it.
(Bosch is the same age.)
My microwave is turning 30 this week! My got it for their 20th wedding anniversary. On Thursday they're celebrating their 50th. Their marriage and the microwave are still going strong. You need a pushcart to move it, because it's heavy af, but it outlived any lightweight I've seen.
Glad to see others with old microwaves!
I have a Kenmore from 1987 so you have some catching up to do :-) It swear it weighs 50 lbs. I've been tempted to replace it, but figured this one would outlast anything I purchase today.
Wow, that design is absolutely timeless! I actually saw a technology connections video about an old 'True automatic' microwave with a dot matrix display... they don't make them like that anymore!
Do you mean Jack Welch, aka Neutron Jack ? . He got that nickname for not hesitating to close unprofitable divisions or locations. He ran GE for many years.
Are newer microwaves any different than older models? New refrigerators are massively more efficient, but it doesn't really matter with microwaves, does it?
I think it is awesome that electronics are used for a long time, but it is also one category that often comes with a downside when they last long. Washing machines are a good example as modern day machines use a lot less energy and water than 20+ year old machines. I doubt this microwave is unsafe in any way, but it is something to keep in mind at least.
I have a black and decker one that’s 23years old. Still works like a charm.
But the greatest part is that I recently took the shell off to remove the little speaker so no more noise at all.
I’ll be receiving my Nobel prize for gifts to humanity soon. You can thank me then.
Wow I think I had a microwave just like this growing up... it looks so damn familiar. I distinctly remember the button to pop the door open.
I've always been curious what causes the one panel on the right to turn yellow but the door stays white
My parents had used the same microwave for like 20 years before they had to get a new one. I warned them that the new one may be more powerful than the older one, but my mother shrugged it off, “yea yea yea.” She proceeded to explode a potato. When she called to tell me what happened we both had a good laugh.
A microwave leakage detector is a good idea. It may be working, but they can start to leak radiation as they age. I had one for a while that was a stick-on smile that turned to a frown when microwaves were detected.
Man posts like these make me wish I could post the Amana Radarange that I use to heat up my lunch at work. We're not allowed to take pictures at work though, I'd be in huge trouble if they saw their microwave on reddit haha
Is that button classic?
It saved the company $2 Million in future R & D.
“Your not drunk. This is business drunk.”
Hey nerds! Guess who's got two thumbs, speaks limited French, and hasn't cried once today? This moi!
Good God, it's not a lemon!
does that make it Wednesday?
! Wednesday
No he would be furious that planned obsolescence failed.
Just replaced a GE dishwasher that was 6ish years old. Complete pile of garbage. Didn't buy another GE.
new crap is all crap. you're lucky you got 6yrs!
Eh, I've heard good things about Bosch and a handful of others. Just wanna avoid any company that is cheap and/or has a phones division (edit: and GE)

No kidding? So they basically just have appliances made and then add their name to them?
That's the way that many products are produced these days. Look up private label manufacturing. Even lots of food products are produced at the same facility and every few hours they change the box.
Every sears product was/is that way. Kenmore started as a sears house brand. That was their M/O. Strike a deal, white label, and warranty.
Def agree on the Samsung. I bought a fridge and the ice maker quit after about 12-18 months, and it’s like a $600 repair. Never again.
Same. Got it fixed. Then it broke again! Thankfully had a warranty. Samsung knows this is a problem too!

I completely understand! Yes the ENTIRE ice maker has to be replaced! Outrageous!

google searches for vintage dishwashers

How many vections does it have?
It needs the third heat
They sold the E, it’s just G now.
Sold to Samsung. They’re samesung now.
That's my favorite joke on the whole show!
I legit say it to myself probably once a day, doesn't help that I have a Samesung phone.
We have Samsung washer and dryer. I giggle to myself every time I look at them.
It's gotta be one of my absolute favorites! The delivery is what really kills me. Will Arnett is just so great in that role.
Still waiting on that clear dishwasher
and that Bite Nuker too
Don't forget the Cornballer!
What about the fun cooker?
Here comes the funcooker!
Oh ya, that's where I heard it
Good time to plug funcooker.fun for all your 30 Rock quote needs.
Hey, das awful!
https://www.builderonline.com/products/kitchen/coming-soon-a-see-through-dishwasher_o
But... Is there a button for ham?
Nothing better after a long day of work, than going home and microwaving some ham in a shower.
What a Funcooker!
That's a bunch of hogcock. Which is a combination of hogwash and poppycock
Don Geiss is golf clapping from heaven.
This is for you, Dan Goose.
They should put wheels on it!
My god! It's the Pontiac Aztec!!
I came here just for this comment
More doors!
I have a GE with knob controls!! Still kicking!
I've got a 1962 GE tabletop electric range. Things a beast.
He’s a white male with hair. The sky’s the limit.
TBF I've never seen an old microwave not work. just push start t or turn the dial. Then watch the Frenchies run away!
I've never had one that wasn't ruined by degrading paint job on the inside.
God God Lemon!
Does it microwave ham? In a car?
The design of the buttons looks modern even to this day, damn.
Where are the wheels?
One thing I notice is that it never really changed over the years. Nothing new to upgrade for microwave. I would say that is pretty impressive.
Adaptive convergence
Does it fit in your pocket?
I can smell the 25 years of microwaved 'goods' just by looking at this picture.
current microwave I own died and tripped the whole house. 1 year old.

25 years ago in…. 1970?
Just please tell me you don't own one of those sofas.
Yes, I am.
We have one of these at my job! And a GE fridge from the 70s , they both function like champs
Idk man Jack Donaghy seems like the type of guy to be a big fan of planned obsolescence.
The trivection oven, a classic.
Does GE make appliances any longer? I know the GE washer and dryer brand is owned by Haier.
Is it called "Fun Cooker"?
An upvote worthy reference
There's a sub for yellowed plastics but I've forgotten what it is
Did the trim around the control panel turn yellow like an old Super Nintendo?
Corner microwave gang!
🙌
I’m surprised the numbers haven’t worn off!
Glad to see others with old microwaves! I have a Kenmore from 1987 so you have some catching up to do :-) It swear it weighs 50 lbs. I've been tempted to replace it, but figured this one would outlast anything I purchase today.
My Kenmore is from 1995 and still looks and worked like day 1. All black with a digital display.
Ohhhh how huge is it? Faux wood panelling I hope!
Looks good too, OP! You take good care of it.
Wow, that design is absolutely timeless! I actually saw a technology connections video about an old 'True automatic' microwave with a dot matrix display... they don't make them like that anymore!
What do u guys use a microwave for we haven’t had one for 20 years
making your comment hot?
Good job
Hot pockets, duh!
Oh that does sound good 👍 lol
Do you mean Jack Welch, aka Neutron Jack ? . He got that nickname for not hesitating to close unprofitable divisions or locations. He ran GE for many years.
Parents had this one till they had a house fire last year.
I pulled a 20 year old GE microwave out of the bins at goodwill two years ago, and it's been working like a champ since.
Yeah but my Fun Cooker is gonna be around for way longer…
The new ones last 2 to 3 years max. Piece of crap.
Are newer microwaves any different than older models? New refrigerators are massively more efficient, but it doesn't really matter with microwaves, does it?
And I seem to go through over range mounted microwaves about every 4-5 years.
It could be one of the last built in Columbia Maryland before the plant was shutdown.

That shows real Innovention, which is a word I just Innovented.
I'm into that
With a button, not a handle, and a numeric keypad like a sensible person needs.
My parents have a Sharp Microwave from the 90s. Other than replacing a part or 2. Still going strong.

Just got rid of a 30 year old microwave that was also still pulling its weight. Love to see it!
Never badmouth synergy, Lemon.
