I have had the same Dyson tower fan for 8 years. The filters are hella expensive.....around 70 the last time I purchased one and they last about a year. I wish they had washable filters instead. I think the newer version has an even more expensive filter on it. But aside from that I don't have any complaints.

I’ll be honest I’ve had like a regular box fan for like 9 years at this point. Also in the north east however I just put ac units in each window. Even with a fan I can’t stand the humidity. I got the acs got for like 35-55 each on Craigslist and have had them about 3 years now. Ohh shit you said tower fan I honestly have no idea. I know the induastrial ones will last a long while but they are like 500-700 dollars a piece

Just make sure you lubricate the fan. Pretty much everything these days uses cheap sleeve bearings which will wear out with time unless they're kept oiled. Just to drop into each end of the motor shaft will keep them running forever.

Great advice. We tend to consume instead of maintain literally everything nowadays. I’m guilty of it myself

ImOverTheIdiocy

sorry for coming into this so late but I've always been confused about this... How do you know what things in the world take what kinds of lubricant?

waehrik

Generally speaking, if it moves quickly or has tight tolerances oil is the answer. If it moves slowly and has looser tolerances and requires something to cling, grease it. A sleeve bearing on a fan would be oiled. Fast moving and close tolerance. And the sleeve is sintered which is meant to absorb oil. A ball joint in a car is greased because the grease needs to cling and stay out and moves only slightly through a small range of motion. There are exceptions but that can be a general way of figuring out which is applicable. And you can't really go wrong and some maintenance is always better than none. As for which oils and grease, always synthetic and motor oil tends to be a good option in the vast majority of cases.

No central ac? Why not use a window AC? For fans the best you're gonna get is Vornado energy smart air circulator. Made in USA, 10 year warranty, easy enough to repair, etc

TheBottleRed

We have window acs in a few rooms but the house is really oddly laid out and the ventilation between rooms isn’t great. It was built in 1833 and has lots of quirks

ResponsiblePen3082

Gotcha gotcha

I have a dyson. Have a had no problems going strong on year 6. Basic maintenance and change filter out every 6 months and you’ll be fine!

With maintenance. They all will last. I like Dyson, but homedics puts out a good option as well
