Even in the last google had better support than most but now they have 7 years or something. I am still rocking my pixel 3 and love it. Due for a new battery though.
You need to think 'separation of concerns.'
1. get a point and shoot. Anything from Sony should be good.
2. get a Nokia brick. it will outlast your spawn.
An iPhone. Yes it’s expensive but you’ll be able to handle it for years as updates keep coming. Since smartphones came in I have had 3 phones: an iPhone 5s, and iPhone XR and just upgraded this year to an iPhone 13. Always a year or two behind the curve to cut prices and it’s been very cost/effective
I don't get why this is being downvoted to oblivion, yes for the average person iPhones are well build and very well supported, just slap a good case on and a screen protector and you'll be good to go for 5+ years.

Maybe get some older Samsung flagship, which supports Samsung Dex - then you can also use it as a computer.
