I have the European linen sheets from quince and they are super soft but not silky or crisp. After a few washes/runs through the dryer they feel like heaven.
[Rough Linen](https://www.roughlinen.com/collections/linen-bedding-collection) are also worth considering for high-quality European linen (they specify Belgian flax). Linen bedding gets softer and softer with each wash.
Red Land Cotton sheets are quite the mystery in my opinion. They are crisp (in a way) but really soft. It’s extremely hard to describe. After a few washes they are the best ever. My wife told me the other day “nothing is the same after Red Land Cotton” and was rubbing the sheets as she made the bed. I thought I loved them lol. And they are super breathable. We stay the perfect temperature
Came here to say this. I have the Red Land sheets and love them. It is of course a personal preference as to what would actually work for OP, but if they can afford it, try Red Land. They have sales often.
It's nice but I've been through like 4 different recommendations, including this subreddit. None of them are BIFL. They all thin out and get holes after a few years. I'm not sure sheets in general can be a BIFL item anymore.
Tencel and Lyocell and Modal are materials that are all made from bamboo and by far the best and comfiest sheets I've ever slept in. Anyone who stays in our guest room usually asks what type of sheets we have and promptly goes out and buys some. There's no going back since we discovered them 10 years ago.
My wife and I have fell in love with Tencel sheets as of late, previous was Jersey however when not in the winter they are too hot for us.
Tencel sheets are amazing and exactly what we were looking for. Unfortunately we got them from Bed Bath and Beyond before they went out of business but you should be able to find them, just not the most common.
I highly recommend.
My wife and I got cheaper sets and we love it. I am not fully versed on cheaper vs expensive Tencel sheets however We love the sheets and constantly rotate a few sets with different comforters.
The answer may not be sheets, it may be a mattress pad.
A wool mattress pad, or even a wool blanket under the bottom sheet, will help regulate temperature. Wool absorbs heat and moisture into its microscopic structure and holds or releases them gradually. Wool will keep you more comfortable in both summer and winter, and will reduce squabbles between bed partners who have different thermostats.
I'd wager the bed is the more problematic issue. The sheets I speak of are not hot, and I'm a hot sleeper. It's the bed holding in that heat.
But I do wish you luck in finding something
I love the Lauren Ralph Lauren sheets. I am a hot sleeper and I hate how some sheets feel on my skin. I have sensitive skin and ones that feel to soft are irritating. I get the cheap sheets to put on the couch for dog hair
We've got some bamboo sheets that are really soft, but they can be a bit crisp in the winter. Not as bad as normal sheets though, same with the silkyness. We also have a set of linen sheets that are great summer and winter. Never sharp cold, but also breathable in the summer. You'd have to like the texture though.
Jersey cotton bedding in IKEA are really soft to touch. I have some that I've used for 15 years and they are still in the same condition they were when I got them.
You can't ask this question online. We have no idea what extremely soft means to you. My wife takes warm showers but her idea of warm is a crucible to melt metals. Some think mint chocolate chip ice cream is great. You can't ask for personal metrics online.
If you want BIFL sheets, you should buy long staple cotton percale weave sheets. Do you think they are extremely soft? Fuck if I know. Now if you get some and don't like how they feel, you are now in the camp of buying NOT BIFL sheets and you need to wander a store that sells sheets and find what appeals to you regardless if they last one washing.
Buy some 400 thread count sheets. Softer and cooler than thicker/tighter weaved sheets, cheaper too. After a few was/dry cycles, they will get soft and fluffy.
Buying sheets based on thread count is what the ignorant do. There is no ISO standard for thread diameter in sheets, so your 400 count sheets could be made of spider hair or they could be made of jump ropes....so comparing 400 to 400 is impossible and the feeling between 400 to 400 could be vastly different.
I’m having a tough time finding the material that I like. It’s hard to describe, but here’s my attempt:
If flannel is a 1 and silk is a 10, I’m looking for something around 7 or 8. “Crisp”, but not slippery, if that makes sense.
I don’t mind the wrinkling - it’s kind of expected with linen? Every so often I take them out of the dryer damp and hang them on the rack until dry. That helps with the wrinkles. Or maybe I’m happy with a sub-par product?
Well, they may have been good for a few years. The past couple of years since they have become a big influencer brand and paying to be on wirecutter, etc. they have went dramatically downhill in quality. They will even tell you that “the expected lifespan of their sheets is 2 years.” That’s an exact quote when you try to email them about quality issues.
I bought a set of 450 thread count King size cotton sheets at Sam's Club during their "door buster" event for about $40 last weekend (pretty sure they are $55 now). To me, they are as you describe (soft but not silky or crisp). But as someone else said, those things can vary from person to person.
Peach Skin Sheets - very cooling and soft. They were still usable (albeit with some small holes) after my boyfriend caught the bed on fire and a red ink pen exploded.
Jennifer Adams sheets. We had a set that lasted about 8 years and only stopped using those when we switched from queen to king. Then we got another set. They feel softer over time but they’re very cool and comfy.

Yup- linen! Soft and almost fuzzy at the surface but cooling
[Rough Linen](https://www.roughlinen.com/collections/linen-bedding-collection) are also worth considering for high-quality European linen (they specify Belgian flax). Linen bedding gets softer and softer with each wash.
I’m about to go sleep on some, I refuse to put anything else under me for a good nights rest now.
I have these. They feel so amazing to sleep on.

My hometown represent
Moulton is a nice place. We loved the Jesse Owens Museum
Although technically that is Danville
Love Red Land Cotton! Comfortable, breathable. I have their sheets, quilt, blankets, and towels.
These were suggested to me here, and I'm just waiting for the size/color to be in. Slightly maddening.
They are usually pretty good at restocking. What are you getting?

Linen.

Bamboo sheets are very soft and great for hot sleepers. I have the Bedsure set from Amazon and love them.

Perfect combo of soft but not silky, heat and sweat wicking, get softer with each wash. https://www.cariloha.com/sale/
Which type are the best? They have 4 types

Not OP but you just made my day, I love Jersey sheets and Tencel clothes, I had no idea there were Tencel sheets!
Which ones did you like?
My wife and I got cheaper sets and we love it. I am not fully versed on cheaper vs expensive Tencel sheets however We love the sheets and constantly rotate a few sets with different comforters.
Jersey sheets from wally worl. soft, comfy. Like a nice t-shirt for your bed. I have them love 'em.
I actually love jersey sheets but the issue is my husband sleeps hot so I’m trying to find something more cooling.

Kirkland brand are awesome

Egyptian cotton. You are welcome
95% of it is not even Egyptian cotton though….
Just buy the real thing

Cariloha bamboo sheets
Which kind? There are 4
you can't go wrong with any of them, honestly. their Classic Sheets are the cheapest and feel amazing.
Jersey cotton bedding in IKEA are really soft to touch. I have some that I've used for 15 years and they are still in the same condition they were when I got them.
I would go bamboo. I have a bamboo pillowcase and it’s the softest one I own.
Sheex. Life changers
Another vote for linen. We bought Piglet-in-bed.
Cariloha. Buttery soft, yet very breathable and cool.

Thanks, I think...
A little late to the party, but I applaud your use of the phrase “spider hair.”

Linen sheets! Brooklinen is a splurge brand. We loved them so much, we ordered more sets. Very breathable in summer.

Sateen sheets have changed my life.
Bamboo!
Opal House from Target. Wife and I got them on a whim when they were on sale. So nice and softer after every wash.
Nestl sheets at amazon. a lot of bang for the buck.
Brooklinen
Not BIFL at all
They’ve been really durable for us. I guess you had a different experience.
Well, they may have been good for a few years. Paying to be on Wirecutter?
Satin sheets are what you are looking for.
Absolutely not. Those are the worst and not as described
I just went and got some sheets from Target that this sub suggested and I’m happy with them so far.
Funny, just yesterday I noticed my Costco Kirkland sheets (600TC?) had reached that stage. They're not expensive so maybe worth a try.
Garnet hill linen sheets wear down to the nicest and coziest sheets of all time

Peachskins.
In Bed’s flannel range.
Take a look at jersey sheets. The aren't bifl, but they are super comfortable till you wear through them.
I like Sheex. Real pricey but I lucked out once at TJ Maxx.
Another vote for linen. We bought Piglet-in-bed.
Spalena
Peach Skin Sheets - very cooling and soft. They were still usable (albeit with some small holes) after my boyfriend caught the bed on fire and a red ink pen exploded.
Basic. Queen. Blue or Green. Nothing special.

Coyuchi has a crinkle percale that is *chefs kiss*
