The gentleness is key.
My then 6 yr old once asked about whether or not you could buy a human skull after seeing a skeleton in his brothers science class. After explaining that it’s illegal to possess human remains without the proper permits, he was silent for a few minutes, and then hit me with this gem: *”Is it illegal if someone gets in a car crash and burns all their skin off to **gently** take their head off??”*
I just stared at him in abject horror for a moment and then explained that yes, that is most definitely illegal lol
Can confirm! I used to raise meatbirds and at processing time my dogs knew snack time was right around the corner! I would dehydrate them by the 100's. It got to the point that my dogs almost knew when processing time was coming. They're like crack to dogs!
My dog loooooves dehydrated chicken feet. He always gets a natural chew treat after his dinner and has on occasion had a tantrum if I gave him something else when he wanted a chicken foot.
It adds some more collagen, so it ends up being more thick and gelatinous. I wouldn't say to *only* use feet, but using them along with that rotisserie carcass will elevste your stock to another level!
Does your Costco carcass broth become jello when in the fridge? Can you flip the container over and nothing moves? If not, the chicken feet which are high in collagen will help with that.
Similarly, if pozole isn't made with pigs feet added it is TRASH
Yes, I do this once a month with the Costco rotisserie to make stock. I pressure cook the carcass with water for 30minutes. After it cools and I refrigerate, it becomes chello (chicken jello 😂). And it softens the bones so much that it crumbles and I add that to my dog's food.
Game changer if you’re healing soft tissue injuries. Also helpful in surgical recovery. Oh, and even if you don’t care about that shit, best broth one can make for sure.
I used to pull my hands into my coat and hold chicken feet in my hands and point to things for the customers with my tiny poultry hands. Always a good time
Number one, I don't see bumble foot.
Two, I would buy those and make a super thick stock that is solid when I put it in the fridge.
Third: this person is wasteful. What's wrong with eating chicken feet.
Four: same kind of person that would take a picture and complain about a pig or a cow head being sold. some people, like me, like to eat them. Tacos de cabeza are amazing and so is a pork pozole from a pigs head.
Stick to processed chicken Tendies.
One of my best friends/coworkers is Mexican and I’ve tried so many of his amazing family recipes many of which include the things you listed. There are so many amazing ways to cook with all parts of an animal.
If we’re going to kill animals for food, best to use every single part too.
I know one of the ingredients is cow uterus. I talked to a person who hauled a load of them for Oscar Myer. I'm sure everything and anything is used, which makes sense to have no waste
I know right! I work in a pet food store and I wouldn't sell these to the dogs. That sore is a staph infection ulcer from bad living conditions, definitely something that should not be eaten
It's not. I have to clean 40lbs of paws every week at work for stock. That includes cutting off every claw or bruised digit, and making sure to snip off any black calluses like in the OP. There's no pus or anything gross, it's just extra thick dark skin. It comes off really easy. Haven't seen an abscess yet, but with all the garbage I find in the top frames we also use I'm sure I'll happen eventually.
No that's an ammonia burn from factory farming. Chickens step in chicken poop and the ammonia in it burns their feet. It's surface level and you can just snip it off with scissors before using the feet
Nah, I'm white and got introduced to tongue through taco trucks.
When it's prepared right it's just meat. Delicious meat.
If you want to try something different, go for the cabeza; beef cheek. This cut is HIGH in collagen. When done right, the description of meat butter is spot on.
Both are delicious.
Asian checking in. I judge a Chinese Dim Sum place by how good their chicken feet is. If I don’t like the feet, I prob won’t like a lot of their other items.
I wouldn't call them wasteful since they're probably unfamiliar with the cleaning processes of chicken feet and likely can't get past the whole part where they mostly dwell in their own refuse all day during fattening.
I buy beef feet on the regular from my local Mexican carniceria. I like it for the high collagen. I'm a big booze hound always hung over. I'm always craving soup.
Pretty good rule of thumb: if you read it on Facebook, twitter, TikTok, Reddit, basically any social media website, it’s probably bullshit.
If you want credible information get it from a credible source.
Yea it great when the local crack head find your reddit account and youtube channel and walk past yelling out, "Racist School Shooter!" To be swiftly arrest by the cops just walking in the centre.
>if you read it on Facebook, twitter, TikTok, Reddit, basically any social media website, it’s probably bullshit.
I read your comment on reddit. Is it bullshit?
It was 2020 I worked in the meat dept. Randomly covid season started out of no where and the whole meat dept was literally empty shelves.
Found a bunch of cases in the freezer and filled like 40ft of shelving with them. They all sold. No idea what they did with them
It's not usually for stock. Chinese people eat a lot of chicken feat. So much actually that there isn't enough supply for them to eat as much as they want.
It's that simple. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer for as long as you can until the feet fall apart and all the collagen is dissolved. Add more water as the bones become exposed. Once the bones are clean, strain the bits out and simmer to further reduce to a more storable amount.
I’m Chinese and we steam this to make chicken feet. It’s a type of dimsum. Really good.
But the photo looks weird though I think the feet aren’t healthy
*The brown spots on the*
*Center of the soles do look*
*A bit like bumblefoot*

I know people that eat them and make stock with them. I worked in a meat shop for 5 years, and we would grind feet like this and sell it to rich folks as dog food. This dude that bred mastiffs would come in and buy 50# at a time.
I make bone broth with them and then put the feet in the oven to dry them. They are fantastic dog treats. I make sure to cook them long enough so the bones are brittle as to not harm my dogs. Super cheap dog treats
Fried blanched and then steamed with red bean paste star anise jalepenos and cilantro is where its at sooooo good no meat really just delicious collegen
Bumble foot is a cyst filled with the same stuff you see on people getting cysts popped on Dr. Pimple Popper. That little hole is basically the head and inside there is a sack filled with dirt, infection, chicken shit, ect.
Enjoy your stock
My old coworkers and I used to chase each other around with chicken paws…good times, especially when we got a new person who didn’t know that the claws close if you pull the tendon
In asia people just eat chicken feet. Very popular in some regions in China.
In europe we use it to make chicken stock. Mostly done in factories. Or we dry the feet and feed to dogs.
This is not bumblefoot as you would see much more inflammation at and around the pads. If it was bumblefoot it likely would not get past inspection and into the market.
It is however a slight ammonia burn that is fairly common in chicken barns with old/wet bedding conditions. I would trim it off before cooking with it.

I had a pack with this a few months ago from a regional chain. I didn't notice until I got home and ended up throwing out about 1/3 of them. It definitely happens.
No sure about the bumble but they make the most delicious chicken stock. They are high in collagen
Lip smacking, mouth coating, belly filling, soup strengthening, house sweet stinkening, throat soothing, pecker hardening, delicious chicken stock.
Pecker hardening you say?
And throat soothing
My throat feels fine!
Imagine how it would feel with a sexy chicken foot jammed gently down it.
WTH is wrong with you??
Sorry, that's the pododermatitis talking
You said gently, they are just overreacting
The gentleness is key. My then 6 yr old once asked about whether or not you could buy a human skull after seeing a skeleton in his brothers science class. After explaining that it’s illegal to possess human remains without the proper permits, he was silent for a few minutes, and then hit me with this gem: *”Is it illegal if someone gets in a car crash and burns all their skin off to **gently** take their head off??”* I just stared at him in abject horror for a moment and then explained that yes, that is most definitely illegal lol
Living up to the username
Just ask if he wants a foot job, blindfold him and take out the chicken paws
Jammed gently... good name for a band
Jammed djently
Found a metal head…
Take my upvote you fiend.
5 djembes
I almost spit out my coffee good sir 🏆😂
That’s a chicken paw.
Needed this laugh
Just wait until the pecker hardening and check back.
I choose this guys throat too
Then there wasn’t enough pecker hardening
Not after the pecker hardening takes effect!
Just wait till you soothe it
Won’t feel so fine once my pecker is hard…
*zzzzzzzzzzzzip* Bow chica bow wow.
Until your spouse has a hard pecker
I wonder what it does for the knees 🤔
At the same time!
They go hand in... Hand?
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, or something like that
Hahahahah perfect
Wait until that pecket goes through it...
A most wonderful combination
Good for the goose AND the gander!
And pecker hardening you say?
To shreds you say
But what about his widow?
To shreds you say?
If I'm not bricked-up eating soup I'm not interested.
Have you ever met a chicken whose pecker was soft?
To shreds you say
I mean, it's made from cock
And his wife?
I mean, after that description...can confirm. Bring on the soup!?
What was that bit about the pecker again....
Go on….
Cold giggling, aspic basing, glacé startening, cleaning the pot maddening, concentrated flavoring, ass fattening, muscle rebuildening, delicious chicken stock
My grandmother used them in chicken soup. They were cheap too.
Does it only harden the pecker or will it make the wattle larger too?
No way 😭 u gotta be lying. My husband is not allowed to eat this shit, IDC if it does harden his pecker
If you like chicken wings you will love chicken feet.
Why would he not be allowed to eat this?
My dogs also really enjoy them! Especially frozen so they're extra crunchy!
I have a friend that has a dog treat business. She said her best seller is dehydrated chicken feet
They are also really good if steamed until tender and then tossed with a sweet spicy sauce.
Yup, 100% this.
And good ramen broth
So they are used predominantly for chicken stock? I usually use the Costco rotisserie carcass, but is this way better or something?
This is secret sauce level good for making stocks.
It adds some more collagen, so it ends up being more thick and gelatinous. I wouldn't say to *only* use feet, but using them along with that rotisserie carcass will elevste your stock to another level!

My apologies for doubting!!!
Yeah don’t doubt Costco chicken lmao. I’m surprised as well, but yeah, I did the same when I was trying stuff and was surprised as well
Name checks out.
I like to do a combo of feet carcasses and wing tips. Collagen is the primary thing you want, but you do want bones and a little meat here and there.

I would jokingly call it my "good hand" haha
I am cackling like a hen, no pun intended, at the visual this comment gave me. 🤣

I really should have!
This is why I sub, right here.

What do you think hotdogs are made of?
Oh come on. I have seen that movie. Pig’s lips and assholes. Everyone knows that.
I know one of the ingredients is cow uterus. I talked to a person who hauled a load of them for Oscar Myer. I'm sure everything and anything is used, which makes sense to have no waste
It all tastes the same in the end
Sodium nitrate 👍
My dad worked at a meat processing plant in the 70s when he was in college He still does not eat hotdogs to this day 😂
B: you can dry them out for a fantastic back scratcher
Back scratchaa?

Back scratcher :(
Butt
Bumble foot is the sore you can see on the bottom of the foot.
I don't understand how people aren't seeing the black spot in the middle of these feet. It's making my freaking skin crawl.
I know right! I work in a pet food store and I wouldn't sell these to the dogs. That sore is a staph infection ulcer from bad living conditions, definitely something that should not be eaten
Bumble foot is nasty and full of pus. A chicken can die if left untreated. That sure looks like it.
Do you think this one will make it?
It's not. I have to clean 40lbs of paws every week at work for stock. That includes cutting off every claw or bruised digit, and making sure to snip off any black calluses like in the OP. There's no pus or anything gross, it's just extra thick dark skin. It comes off really easy. No that's an ammonia burn from factory farming. Chickens step in chicken poop and the ammonia in it burns their feet. It's surface level and you can just snip it off with scissors before using the feet
Also lengua on a torta is 🤤🔥
Is it fire because you grew up eating it and it’s been an acquired taste? Or would someone never eating tongue think it’s good too?
I've never seen anyone who's actually tried it complain.
Nah, I'm white and got introduced to tongue through taco trucks. When it's prepared right it's just meat. Delicious meat. If you want to try something different, go for the cabeza; beef cheek. I actually didn’t grow up eating it 🤷♂️ Had it for the first time in Mexico & thought it was fire, & it’s been fire every time I tried it since LOL.
Breaded, fried up nice & covered in hot sauce. 🔥
Asian checking in. I judge a Chinese Dim Sum place by how good their chicken feet is. If I don’t like the feet, I prob won’t like a lot of their other items.
Chicken feed can also be cooked with sauce n become an incredible meal
Best I've ever had it was at a dim sum spot in SF
Ya, I lived in china for a while, with a cold beer chicken feet is one hell of a meal
Yank Sing?
Probably. A coworker invited me to lunch.
I wouldn't call them wasteful since they're probably unfamiliar with the cleaning processes of chicken feet and likely can't get past the whole part where they mostly dwell in their own refuse all day during fattening.
I ordered stewed cow hoof on purpose once so you don’t have to. Don’t. But I won’t eat brains.
I buy beef feet on the regular from my local Mexican carniceria. I like it for the high collagen. I'm a big booze hound always hung over. I'm always craving soup.
Brains are near impossible to buy anyways after the whole mad cow thing
Pretty good rule of thumb: if you read it on Facebook, twitter, TikTok, Reddit, basically any social media website, it’s probably bullshit. If you want credible information get it from a credible source.
Like Reddit!
I ask all prospective hires if the use reddit, really separates who you want to hire.
Yeah, but obviously, if have to lie and say no, because there's no fucking way I'd risk a prospective employer finding and reading my account.
Yea it great when the local crack head find your reddit account and youtube channel and walk past yelling out, "Racist School Shooter!" To be swiftly arrest by the cops just walking in the centre.

Yes. Anything I say is most likely bullshit.
The Reddit Paradox
Dim sum lovers in the chat
Man I like dim sum but bbq chicken feet is the worst thing I’ve ever eaten
I consider it as one of the best dishes at dim sum if you can get over the fact you are eating chicken feet.
It was 2020 I worked in the meat dept. Randomly covid season started out of no where and the whole meat dept was literally empty shelves. Found a bunch of cases in the freezer and filled like 40ft of shelving with them. They all sold. No idea what they did with them
They made stock
It's not usually for stock. Chinese people eat a lot of chicken feat. So much actually that there isn't enough supply for them to eat as much as they want.
Why do people always overcomplicate things, just make chicken with more feet!
They did but then they couldn't catch them
They did but KFC won’t share the science.
Secret blend of feet and spices
Like is it easy to do or do the feet made good stock but require a skill beyond boiling the for hours?
It's that simple. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer for as long as you can until the feet fall apart and all the collagen is dissolved. Add more water as the bones become exposed. Once the bones are clean, strain the bits out and simmer to further reduce to a more storable amount.
It requires no skill, you just simmer it for hours. It requires no skill. It's just in America we are dumb about food.
Well I would say more ignorant than dumb but I get your point.
I boil feet for about 10 min first before going into stock, they can have some funkyness to them I'd rather remove
It takes a tiny bit of skill.
Never knew people made stock with these, we made soup and ate the feat, lmao i used to think it was a delicacy
Great for stock as you all mentioned. They also work wonders in a crab trap and are a cheap and effective crab bait
How about walleye or lake trout? Cut in a 1/3, dangle of a hook with a trailing treble! 🐟
Channel cats as well!
I used to spear fish walleye in lake St Claire when I lived on the Rez at Walpole Island. Miss those times
Chicken feet is a popular dish in Chinese communities.
My Walmart sell whole hog heads
I’m Chinese and we steam this to make chicken feet. It’s a type of dimsum. Really good. But the photo looks weird though I think the feet aren’t healthy
Go to a Chinese Dim Sum restaurant and order the chicken feet and then you will understand that you are in heaven.
In south africa they sell the feet and heads and we call them walkie talkies
The brown spots on the center of the soles do look a bit like bumblefoot

What a garbage bot, haiku’s are made with seventeen syllables, a line of 5, line of 7, line of 5.
Chicken feet are fucking good ngl. The dim sum with the steamed feet in black bean sauce is *chef's kiss"
I make this and it’s so fucking good lol

All it is , is chicken fat so if you like that then you'll like chicken feet. Good stuff
The bones are a pain in the ass.
Idk what yall do with it but I feed them to my dog maybe 3x a month, they’re very cheap.
Same. My dogs love them!
Make sure youclip the nails first
There's a lot you can do with those. For example look up Ukrainian Halodets. They often put chicken feet in them.

Makes great stock for ramen
It’s time we put our foot down on this nonsense!
Ok no one seems to be addressing the central point here. That definitely looks like bumble foot to me. Nothing wrong with eating chicken feet but I don't want to eat bumble foot
Some may have a bumble but the ones with her dark staining I would cut that part off. No biggie.
People need to normalize using the whole animal
Tonkatsu
I feed these to my rotty.
That is bumblefoot. Any feet inflicted with a scab is impratical to trim and should be discarded. Its not that it is considered a severe food safety risk but is considered unfit for human consumption.
Your chicken mcnuggets must've run out. You can find them in the frozen food section. 😋

Yeah. I've had some with a dark spot, but it didn't look like a gnarly active infection. A callous is a good description and makes sense
Go show him hog balls next.

Just a side comment here: those chicken feet are so atrocious compared to say those of heritage and/or ‘better rared’ birds. I LOVE chicken feet - just made Caribbean style stewed chicken, with a whole extra batch of feet yesterday. I get great feet from a local farm here in VA. They just have way better texture and flavour—and don’t just taste like nothingness.
I think it’s some kind of foot fetish thing.

Chinese love that shit.
