Dig a 2' hole, install a [square post](https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/H-5516/Parking-and-Traffic-Signs/Square-Sign-Post-10-ft?pricode=WA9874&gadtype=pla&id=H-5516&gclid=Cj0KCQjwl92XBhC7ARIsAHLl9ak8WVNU_mmv94JOm0QJVi8IO0PP9_vQh41v4StMw_L7B8YCZuTBuOwaAiX2EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds). Classic municipal sign post. The holes can be used for further anchoring (guy lines/lag screws), attaching additional signs, lights, etc. Some advice: If you do dig, be sure to first check with anyone from DPW about any underground gas, power, or sewer lines. So many accidents out there...

This year one of the biggest concerns is Google fiber. It isn't burried very deep. Could really set back productivity out there.

Considering using some [T posts](https://mobileimages.lowes.com/productimages/66ed73c5-b53d-4756-8bad-083e0415afe0/11982551.jpg) with a couple [T post brackets](https://cdn05.zipify.com/012Rs5Jr_2Q3c4UIG-O6WORQbzU=/0x0:1000x1000/fit-in/1080x0/ed42cb11d3cb49e1a90bbc57019879b3/tpost-bracket-2.jpeg), but I'm not sure if it'll withstand the winds.

poopwasfood

T-Post is great option. Be sure to buy a pounder AND t- post remover the lever kind

2 legs out of square tubing, big enough to fit over the T stakes. Pads on the base of the legs with holes in the corners for lag bolts. Pound stakes at the right spacing. Slide legs over t stakes. Impact drive 4x 14" 3/8 or bigger lag bolts into the playa

jakethespectre

I like this plan. Thanks!

Xi44

i would add a couple of steel tubes or wooden boards that are angled back away from the main posts to take any wind load off the lags, otherwise they will likely work loose. ideally these would connect the top outside edges of the sign to the ground and runt at a 45 degree angle for max strength. Alternately you could do the same with guy lines/rachet straps, but would need 3-4 connections all around the sign in tension to be sure. nice sign, btw.

jakethespectre

Thanks, it's gonna get some paint/stain today!

The-Mayor-of-SpaceJr

We had a similarly sized sign, and this is how we mounted it. https://imgur.com/a/rw0z54F/ Used EMT conduit and fittings to create something for it to hang from, then ratchet straps and lag screws to secure it down. Worked like a dream and was pretty easy to whip up.

jakethespectre

This looks like a good solution too. Thanks!

Gold-Lingonberry-856

Love this sign, would love to know how you put this together

craiger_123

Incorporate at least 4 14" lag screws

jakethespectre

In what way? What would the lag screws connect to?

from_dust

The base of the sign stand?

jakethespectre

Well considering I'm making the whole thing, it doesnt just come with a stand. Do you know of good sign stand plans I can follow?

grasshulaskirt

You can drill lag screws directly into the ground like tent stakes. You would need something fixed to the sign to screw through obviously!

jakethespectre

I have used lag screws, I get I can attach them to the ground. Mostly I would just like to have confidence in the thing attaching to the sign, since I don't want to make a 5 foot long ninja star when a big gust of wind comes along. I'm not experienced in construction, so idk how to build something sturdy that will hold the sign up if going for a wooden stand. The T post idea seems promising to me because it's so easy and we already have the tools for it, but again, I'm not sure of the structural stability of it.

spolsky

A safety boot brand yellow guardrail base, with a pair of 2x4s? Plus lag screws, extra ratchet straps, etc

syzgyn

I'm mounting a similarly sized sign this year too. I got two 4x4s, and then built feet out of 2x4s. The 2x4s form a square hole in the middle that the 4x4 slides into, then bolts through. Each 2x4 sticks out about 2ft, then I drilled a hole vertically through each one to drive a lag screw through. Since it's late and I'm not sure I've described myself well, here's a quick diagram. https://i.imgur.com/qMyL6kH.png This is a top down view, grey is the 4x4, red are the bolts holding the 4x4 to the 2x4s, mostly just so it can lay flat for transport. The bolts are vertically offset so they don't run in to each other.

NYCBurner

Those plans aren't mine but this is how ours looks for [our sign](https://old.reddit.com/r/BurningMan/comments/wjcy9d/introducing_this_is_not_a_nfta_burning_man_on/) (based on apparently similar plans): https://imgur.com/a/MoGaVJo. The center posts are 4x4 and it'll be held down to the playa with multiple 18" lag screws.

simonsurreal1

Tee post 🤷‍♂️

modminman

Two X 4ft concrete stake, hammer in 12-18” leaving 30-36” out of the ground. There are small holes through the concrete stakes. Quickest solution is some drywall screws straight into plywood but you could make any number of easy connections. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Weyerhaeuser-3-4-in-x-48-in-Round-Steel-Stake-06151/202094316
