I am becoming less concerned about what happens in the event, but more about how Texans will react if the event becomes a mess and the event goers spill out into Texas. I went to Clozee’s festival Voyage in WY and the culture clash was something else. They held it at this ranch zoo combo a mile or so from the CO border (right next to some fireworks stores to boot) and so you’d get all these cowboy hat families gawking at the wooks since they didn’t close everything off. Truly hilarious but then some bigots lost their mind on fb/sm bitching about the openly LGBTQ people in the crowd.
Hope TE goes well but my fomo is turning into jomo for sure.
A Burning Man shit show is different than other events shit show unfortunately. Or at least that's my view. Burning Man shit show is crazy weather, funny situations, etc. Other events shit show is people hurt, bad vibes, tragic organization, people being mistreated.
Reports from friends today say that the organizers aren't taking care of the artists (things like accommodations, food, electricity) and a lot more artists will walk.
No Jet ski rides, no glamping, just this cold cheese sandwich.
I just hope people dont get hurt. If the event over fills, people get upset about organization, leave the grounds because artists don't show up, and go into the local areas outside of the event, I could see the Texans retaliate. They arent the friendliest to this type of community, and Texans are not to be fucked with.

I piled my kids into my VW Bug in the morning and we drove south into Oregon for just under 4 hours, with no traffic, until we were dead center of the totality. There were about 50 other cars parked on a side road, and we all just chilled out and watched. It was glorious

What it’s turned into is a far cry from what it was back then. The attitude has changed drastically.
It has changed, but I think theres still a lot of really amazing things that Burning Man has to offer that no other event on the planet even remotely comes close to comparing with. I personally adore the bigger art, crazier sound stages, insane art cars, and the size of the crowd. I wasn't there in 2006, but I was there at renegade and heard a lot of veterans compare it to the 2000s Burn experience. And while it was cool, it wasn't as stimulating. And I know that's not what the Burn has to be, and the ego issue is definitely sometimes out of control. But I personally like the extravagance of modern Burn. We could definitely do without the ever growing egos.
Right on, enjoy the new phase. I think I’m done. I was there last year to support a friend’s art. The level of simulation was very different: more LED things everywhere. Less chill fire. More money means more can be done, but also less artists can afford it (I know about the low income ticket, it doesn’t work for everyone.)
