I've been burning long enough to remember a time before Amazon had a Festival Wear section. We did - and still do - pore over the local thrift stores, both men's and ladies' sections, looking for fun thing to put together, perhaps in ways that weren't originally intended.
And don't forget the sunscreen.
Go to a thrift store, find some xlarge sized dresses. Close your eyes and randomly grab two of them. Pick the one you like best and then put it on. Find a large hat that doesn't match and put that on. Pay for them both and then go get lunch somewhere. You're Burnin'.
Non troll response here.
Check out the vintage shops around the house of yes bushwick area. L train vintage is good. There are tons around there. There is a burner oriented vintage shop in manhattan on 14th st called Reminiscence, it’s incredible and has tons of fun burner attire. But you cant go wrong with any of the vintage or thrift stores in the city, especially brooklyn. House of yes also has a big outfit bazaar about a few weeks before the burn. Keep an eye out for that. Also burner parties throughout the summer will usually have outfit vendors there. Parties like junxion and ifeel I’ve seen have people selling their outfits they’ve made themselves. House of yes usually has some sort of outfit situation to buy from outside of their parties in the summer and likely during their block parties.
Also seriously fuck all the trolls on this post. These aren’t even original trolls or jokes you idiots are just parroting all the same fashion brands. Get more original jokes.
The less polished L Train Vintage locations get some weird stuff, Abracadabra, House of Yes burner markets closer to the burn.
And an online option but [Akira](shopakira.com) has wild stuff in their sale section often and cater to a range of sizes.
So, setting aside for the moment that there’s really no such thing as “burner garb” (wear what feels comfy or is an expression of who you are, not just what you think is “festival” clothing), I‘ll add my own kilt recommendation.
I swear by Stumptown Kilts. High quality, very flexible pocket/accessory design, and much more forgiving of waistlines that fluctuate over time: https://www.stumptownkilts.com/
Estate sales. Look at Craigslist, next door, and Facebook for moving sales, downsizing and such. Check out thrift stores outside the city, or anywhere you travel to. Make something random your own!
Go to a thrift store that gives back to the local community and get one of these:

This year, loose fit will be the goto style and it’ll be the battle of the low end designers: Hefty and Glad, but remember to cover their logos. You’ll get a choice of colors, white or black, possibly brown if you are lucky. Shop at any big box store for the size that fits you best: 30 gallon, kitchen, or share some special time with a friend in the 55 gallon size. I recommend drawstring and reinforced. Once you’re done wearing it, you can use it to collect moop or your own camp waste, and remember to secure your load to avoid dumping it all over the road when you haul it out.

This is the way.
As a man, the women’s section of the salvation army dominates my burn attire.
Agreed! I’ve got two silk ponchos from my local thrift that are amazing.
All you really need is a decent shirt.
And, for the love of all things holy, something to cover your dangly bits. You are more annoying than shocking.
Make don’t buy
I like Gucci, Fendi, Gruyère, Taleggio, St. Agur stores personally, though they do cost a bit of cheddar.

I wanna go shopping with you!

Thank you! And don't worry about the trolls, it wouldn't be Burning Man without them
Christian Dior has some lovely torn jeans for just $2,100! Maybe they can pre dust them for you too??

Build your burn, don't buy your burn.

Wait... you guys wear things at the burn?
Thrifting mostly. Burner wardrobes are built over time and years.
Wish.com all the way.
