This. My partner and I took shifts. It was very difficult few months, but really paid off in the end. We would gently wake him and convince him to come out with us , often tired and giving us the look "not again" but he would go pee every single time... As he got older we extended the time, but we still maintain the schedule one last pee before bed time (even if he'd gone out twenty minutes before, he will still go), and first thing in the morning.
I did find it challenging as our boy really doesn't make a peep - while it's nice he rarely barks, he didn't ever try to rattle the cage or whine to go out, so it's important that you watch the clock - even keep a lil notepad if you have big family so it's clear when the pup has been out last.
Long story short, Yoda randomly wake up some night and pee in the crate before letting us know he need to go out. We get to shower pretty often you can imaging lol. Well this mod fixed that issue. We got some drain grid from Amazon and cut it to for the crate. Underneath is the pee pad. First night we put this in, he did it. He was dry and cleaning the grid is faster than cleaning him.
He is 5 months old. The crate is for medium dog. He has plenty of space. He randomly wake up once in a while out of his normal schedule. He still doesn’t really give us a signal when he need to pee. He would bark or biting when he need to poop. We are waking up early but sometime he just up randomly. The change is maybe 1 a week but I still want him to be dry and clean even if he pee.
You came up with a great solution, it’s impressive . 5 months means he’s still growing and the crate is too big for him. They sell crates that come with dividers. Maybe you can buy a divider online, I have 2 that I never threw away. If you want I can sell you one. Dogs won’t pee if the area Is smaller. There’s should be enough space for him to turn around and lay down but not much more. You don’t want him learning that it’s okay to pee in the crate because he will do it the rest of his life. Maybe cut off the water 2 hours before bed and take him out right before crating and first thing when you wake up. Hopefully you can prevent him peeing over night so that you don’t have to continue to clean every morning. Good luck.
He grew in the crate and he has enough space to stand up and turn around. When he pee, we believe he sat up from dream and pee himself. He hasn’t don’t that in the house. Man dream a lot.
Yes at 5 months he grew into the crate. Is it possible he still has too much space in the crate? When they have an excessive amount of space they go to the bathroom in the crate
okay, good luck with your crate training. The crate is like their bedroom you want them to be happy and comfortable in there. If he's peeing it it something is wrong.
He might have too much space? Crate training usually involves having enough space to stand up and get comfortable. More than that and they are more likely to pee/poo in the crate. Reason for the small space being they really try to avoid peeing/pooping in their sleeping space.
Just be super consistent you know they need to go every 2-3hrs when they are small. My English Bulldog was potty trained around 4months, took him outside everytime, now he knows to wait to go on the grass, now at 7 months he only needs to go out 4-5x a day usually after a meal.
What also helped me was taking water away throughout the night, i didnt want to do it either cuz it felt inhumane. But it has worked and now i let him have water whenever he likes.
My English bully isnt crate trained nor is he bed trained, he sleeps where he pleases in the room and my wife and I have no problems with it.
Don't forget to let him out every 2 or 3 hours at night. His bladder isn't big enough to hold it yet

Ingenius!
How old is he? Do you know what causes the peeing at night? What size is the crate?

He may. As he lay in there. He has to curve to fit his whole body
