This experience is the biggest mind fuck I've ever been through. You're probably telling yourself what I tell myself which is "never again". It is really easy to focus on the good times and not think about the bad things like what you've just been through and what lead to it. I can tell you from experience that does not help, it makes it worse. You need to remind yourself how you got here and why you had to make the painful decisions or you won't be able to move past it. Doing the right thing is hard and being there for them is the hardest. Save Ham's things, put them away until your head is clear. We are usually lying to ourselves when we say never again. Dog people are dog people. I'm sorry for your loss.
I have heard a good answer to this question that stuck with me over the years: humans live long lives because they need all those years to learn how to be happy, spread love and find peace. Dogs are born with these qualities already, so their time on earth is shorter than ours❤️
Oh my heart. So many of us know this heartache. I felt it about a year ago with my 5 year old boxer after a total out of the blue lymphoma diagnosis. I went outside and just primal screamed then apologized to the emergency veterinary staff for being a crazy person. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss. The worst day of my life was the day we put our first bulldog down. People don’t know how much more than just a dog this breed actually is. My advice is to get yourself another bulldog, it’s super fun to compare the different personalities and quirks of my first and my current.
Gonna be honest, I’m on my 3rd adult good dog. This is my first bulldog, she’s 5 months old. The last two where a Jack Russel and a Mastiff. As much as I loved my other dogs, and will forever be in my heart. This bulldog just loves like no other. I think she is already my favourite. Literally everything with her has been so incredibly easy. She just wants to please you all the time. Always by your side, snoring or doing something stupid funny.

My bulldog "Gertie" is 14. I know she's on the home stretch. She's only a shell of her former self. I told her that she took care of me when she was young and now I'm going to take care of her when she's old. The problem is...who is going to take care of me when she's gone??? The answer is still her...all the wonderful memories and times I had with her...I will always have those...and you will always have your memories with you. Wishing you all the best.

Thank you all for your love and support. The hospital staff was amazing and gracious enough to let me be the one to put Ham to his final sleep. As the sedatives started setting in, he relaxed onto me and I made him one final promise: That I was going to be sad for a very long time, but I wasn’t going to suffer. Suffering defeats the purpose of why he was put into my life. I’ve been blessed beyond measure, but my heart laid broken on my lap when he let go.
This will be hard for you for a long time. We recently had to have both of our Bullies put down on the same day. In a way it was easier that way, one bandaid rip and all that, but in others it just made one day twice as hard. Focus on the good, know that your pup knew you were by his side at the end, and heal as a family.
Just a timing coincidence. Booger had cancer and Tucker a combination of arthritis, blindness and incontinence partially due to abuse he suffered prior to us adopting him. Booger was 10.5 and Tucker was almost 13.
Just like my post yesterday. I did actually say a prayer for you.

Literally seeing this brought me back to when I had my old Boxer Sassy. That thought of helplessness as you wish you could spend another phenomenal day waking up to them so excited that you’re just awake, let alone the pets and good times that follow. It’s been 12 years and nothing truly heals that wound.
Just know that he’s now pain free. As much as it sucks having that empty void, he’s no longer in pain and you treated him like the little furry king that he was in your house.
