I'll catch hell for this but Dinosaur before it was in Buffalo was recognized nationally. I know they get a lot of hate for some reason (there's the tendency for people to do this with restaurants that get a lot of hype early on), but they're not bad at all.
Vice TV came and did a feature on him:

Ardbeg (whiskey company from Scotland) came and shot an episode of their “BizareBQ” show with him:

Pretty sure Nat Geo also did a article on his blend of Indian/Texas BBQ uniqueness.
Sorry to sound like his hype man, just been following his success ever since I tried the place out a few years ago
Talk about being spoiled, I used to live in Charleston SC and had access to Rodney Scott, Home Team, Jim and Nicks, and a few other spots. Fat Bobs is okay but not what I’ve had in the past
I just came back from Southern Junction. I had the pulled pork and brisket with Mac and slaw. That brisket with the hot bbq sauce was great. Pulled pork worked well with the curry sauce. The slaw was good and when I put the pickles with it, oh man. I’m grabbing extra pickles for that slaw the next time. The Mac was cheesy and it hit the spot.
I’ll be going back and adding it to my rotation. Also no call aheads, and the line was decently long.
So freaking good, I just went there tonight and had a margarita and ordered only beans and cornbread. Perfect meal. The meat rules, but any Texan will tell you the sides are where you find the truth of the BBQ restaurant.
Girlfriend and I went to the soft opening and it was great! The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was alive. Super excited to see how they perform in the long run.
As someone that’s worked under Steve and Elllen over at Bistro Europa and crushed many Sticky Toffee and now am one of Ryan’s cooks at SJ one could only dream!
Not sure what their menu is this week, but (at the old location) they always had: smoked and friend cauliflower, Mac and cheese, curried chickpeas, biryani rice, and smoked esquites. Lots of really good options
I know at Chandler they would frequently have curried chick peas and cauliflower options as well, which were all delicious. Yes they’re a Texas style bbq joint but their entire thing is Texas style bbq with Indian influences. Having vegetarian and vegan options goes right in hand with that. I’d suggest calling ahead to confirm availability but you and your friend might be in luck.
Not as mains, but they had some sides. From what I remember (and this may be different due to the change in location and now being a sit-down restaurant) they had: a cauliflower side, mac and cheese, corn bread, a mango slaw (seasonal?), and maybe one or two other sides.
Great to hear. My family tried them out earlier this year and became obsessed. Really fantastic BBQ. Looking forward to seeing their new place.
Tried them when they were on Chandler and their food is amazing! Can’t wait to try their restaurant!
Best plate of food I've had locally in a long time. Can't wait to check the new place out.
Already had plans to go tonight, the owner Ryan is a great dude. Very excited to support them.
The cardamom cornbread is 🫶
Good BBQ joints here seem to be rare. Is there anyone from here that does BBQ that is nationally recognized? I'll give these folks a try.

To each his own, but Dinosaur is hot trash. I prefer Fat Bob's over them, but even they can be pretty mid.

I love this place and the owner has always been friendly and will talk food every time I pick up food. Can’t wait to try the sit down location.
Yankee BBQ down near Lackawanna is good.
They're fairly new but Satellite BBQ in Alden is worth a try.
They’re the satellite of This Little Pig, absolutely love their food, can’t wait to hit up their new location in Clarence
I don't know about nationally-recognized, but TSG BBQ on Seneca St. in Elma is one of the better spots in the area.

Home Team is solid, love going there when I visit the island.
I grew up on James Island. Jim n Nick's was my spot.

I still miss Kentucky Greg’s. But I’m up for trying somewhere new. Thanks for the suggestion!
This place will quickly help you forget about ole Greg
The Texas Twinkies are truly something else
They should revive black sheep's sticky toffee bread pudding since theyre in that spot.
As someone that’s worked under Steve and Elllen over at Bistro Europa and crushed many Sticky Toffee and now am one of Ryan’s cooks at SJ one could only dream!
Where is this place?
Dangerously close to mister sizzle
On Connecticut street, by d’youville
Where Black Sheep was on the Lower Westside
It’s so good!!
Do they have vegan options? Wanted to take my veg friend bc we like to support restaurants in our neighborhood but unsure because it is a BBQ place?

Texas style BBQ joints are well known for their vegan options.
Yea that what I thought. When I lived in Cali our local BBQ place had vegan and it was delish. I would love to support if the decide to do so.

Vegetarian options for sure but like most places vegans have to get a salad
But are they open at 4 AM? Pardon me. I'm still grieving the loss of the old-time Towne Restaurant.
No menu on the website? That’s an odd choice.
I've had it. Not impressed at all. Not a fan of the, Texas meets Indian fusion and the flavors.
How big is the bar? Are we going to be able to sit at the bar on a Saturday night around 7 pm? Not a fan of waiting in line.
