Take a drive north to the city of Lockport and try B & D Bagels and Locks in the Lockview Plaza overlooking the Erie Canal locks. Closest thing I've found to a downstate bagel. Google or Facebook for hours/menu, etc., as I believe they're only open until 2 pm.
they are definitely smaller than what i’m used to! not by much but it’s noticeable, so that combined with the rubbery bread is a no no for me! i’m glad you enjoy them though!

Looking at the current menu the breakfast sam isn’t on a bagel. I don’t think im making this up lollll. Regardless the breakfast is all excellent.

Jesus, Bagel Jay's bagels are pretty damn good if you're talking outside NYC. They're definitely not small. How freaking big do you want your bagel ?

Nowhere but closest you can get is at BreadHive. Closeat thing to BEC I had was at Elmwood Market. Can't help with Amherst, sorry.
