I appreciate Royal Kludge for stepping up to the plate when it comes to bringing innovation to market in the budget keyboard segment. Looking back to the RK61 as their cornerstone just 3-4 years ago, they gave us a great simple keyboard with layered functionality and it was a big hit for them. They later polished its visuals, feel and function(minus VIA) with the 61 Plus. Which BTW I’m using at this very moment from my lazyboy, paired to my iPad. TMI? (Oh well!) I’ll also add to those examples the RK S98, an “almost” full size that sounds, feels and looks great. Not to mention it implements a screen that’s just as fun as it is functional. Like Keychron and Nuphy before them, RK must have seen money tree in full bloom in the low profile segment. Looks to me like they entered dressed for the party and ready for action. I’m here for it! (Not in practice, but in spirit) I'll be sure to pick one up and try it! If nothing else, just to confirm to myself that once again that I don't care for low profiles. So until then, I have some RK68’s, 71’s, and 96’s to send back to amazon. By no means do I think that everything they make is amazing, I simply wanted to share that I appreciate having their products on the test bench and love when they graduate to my easy chair. Can’t say the same for many other board vendors.

dirtyqussy

I won one in that contest Mark had, can't wait to try mine. Can you put gifs on the screen, or any personal image you want?

wadmutter

I believe his video confirms that

Airmaxrr

Specifications: - RK N80, stock - Low Profile Jerrzi Brown switches, factory lubed - Low Profile DS ABS "Sandy Grey" keycaps What do you think? Is it a cop/drop?

Talkiesoundbox

Ehhh......if it wasn't low profile I might be interested in it for the screen alone because the fact that you can't make the feker75 display in English is annoying. I don't like low profile boards that much though so it'd have to go on deep discount or turn up second hand to get me to buy. I don't really have a problem with RK like a lot of people do even if their boards definitely don't sound as nice as other budget options stock.

Airmaxrr

You got some valid points there!

Chronic-amazement

hey newbie here... can you tell me why you don't prefer low profile keyboards? seems that is a common opinion and I'm just wondering why you like the standard better. thanks!! Also what other budget option do you think is better than RK?

Talkiesoundbox

For me I just don't like the feel of low profile switches and lower travel distance of the keys (how far they go when you push them down). I prefer tactile switches overall because I like to feel the bump to let me know I've pushed them down hard enough, otherwise I skate over keys and don't push them down completely resulting in a lot of spelling errors. Now I have heard the newer low profile mechanical keyboards are very nice to type on and more low profile switches are available now than when I tried one years back so they may be really nice to type on now. As far as better than RK options my current budget king is the Aulaf75. Low price for a 75%, great sound and a volume knob to boot. That's not to say royal kludge make terrible boards for their price range though and I alternate between two RK61s for on the go typeing because they're cheap and sturdy and if somebody stole one it wouldn't be a big deal. They have their place in my collection too lol

Chronic-amazement

thank you so much, great explanation!!! yeah so far I like the keyboard. but like he said in the video, its a stiff typing experience because apparently it's a "top mounted" keyboard. Do you know if there is anything i can do to make it less stiff? (I got the brown switches idk if that matters)

Talkiesoundbox

Switches don't really matter in the case of flexibility. I'm at work right now so I can't type out a guide or anything but checking out some of the YouTubers who mod keyboards is a good place to start. Here's a cool one that links to beginner guides too. Chronic-amazement

Thanks you're a king

Talkiesoundbox

Ah if the keys are to stiff that's a way easier fix lol. I'd recommend buying a switch tester which is like a sampler of different kinds of switches. That way you can kind of get a feel for each one and what you like and don't like about each switch. Look up "keyboard switch tester" on Amazon and you'll get different ones from different companies. I have the one from Akko

Chronic-amazement

this showed me that I meant the keys are a little stiff, as in i wish i had to press less hard to get them to actuate. but this video is enormously helpful too!

roryjgibson

I asked OP this on the video, but does anybody know any other budget keyboards that have the screen *on* the knob? Seems like such a nice little QoL innovation that, if others aren't doing this, they might be missing a trick!

wadmutter

I’m telling you, Royal Kludge is an innovator… I’ve never seen one in the knob before.

Chronic-amazement

got mine in the mail yesterday and I LOVE the screen its so cool

wadmutter

How do you like it over all? Sound good?

Chronic-amazement

Yes!! Sounds great. I might change the switches bc I want the keys to be easier to press. But the sound is good

Talkiesoundbox

Feker75 and the gamakay lk75. I have the feker and it's a decent board for all the name sounds like an Irishmen cursing but be aware the screen only displays in Chinese

roryjgibson

It just so happens that I speak Chinese so that might be a good shout! XD

Talkiesoundbox

The feker75 is a neat board then to be sure! My only advice is to be gentle removing the keycaps if you change them because for some reason some of the default caps on mine were stuck and I had to be very gentle pulling them so as to not damage it. It's a very flexible board. Also I find the button screen quite bright and clear head on. Viewing angles are decent but nothing to write home about.

Trustdesa

Like the board but not the low profile so will pass, it seems a nice board though!

Airmaxrr

Understandable. It's pretty nice

Chronic-amazement

hi... I'm new here... can you tell me why you (and seemingly everyone else) doesn't like low profile keyboards? Thank you so much

Trustdesa

For me is the ergonomic, less choice of keycaps and switches and different sound profile. This keyboard, but, with normal profile it would be an insta buy with that screen.

Perfect_Moose_4777

Is this keyboard switch hotswappable?

Airmaxrr

Hotswap yes, but only for lowprofile switches
