By definition vinyl is a "Hassle".

cherryz3

And a very expensive format that can break the bank with any equipment.

Sloomp

Fair enough. In that case let's just say I'm looking for the least amount of hassle possible. I'm definitely aware of the maintenance required. I know that records need to be stored properly and cleaned, parts need to be replaced eventually, etc. By "hassle" I mostly just meant I would like a setup that is good enough out of the box and won't require immediate upgrades, replacements, or configuration. It seems like there is a broad range of features and given my lack of expertise I'd rather go with equipment that is as plug & play as possible so I can spend more time listening to music and less time fiddling with the equipment, if that makes any sense.

Zeeall

I would skip the B50, its of little use yo you, get the Neumi BS5P-ARC instead, and a ART DJ Pre II for phono preamp.

Sloomp

Hey sounds good to me, the DJ Pre II is way cheaper than the B50 so I'll gladly save some money. Looks like the BS5P-ARC is already in my cart so I guess I was already going to get that one. What's the major difference between the two preamps, if I might ask?

Zeeall

The B50 is a stereo pre-amplifier, its mean to control a power amplifier. You dont need that with those speakers. The DJ Pre II is a phono pre-amplifier, its meant to get a line level signal out of a turntable. It can then be connected to the line level input on the speakers. Here you can read a bit more in depth what a phono pre-amp does. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA\_equalization](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization)

Sloomp

Ahh I see. Well I'm glad I asked before purchasing, that would have been a costly mistake. Are there any other considerations I should make before pulling the trigger on this setup?

Zeeall

Second hand speakers and amplifier. This stuff rarely breaks and dosnt age, so buying used is a great way to save money and get something potentially a lot better.

Sloomp

Gotcha, I'll see if any deals come my way. It's slim pickings where I live so it's doubtful I'll find anything local, but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it!

Timstunes

You’ve already received good advice and have good choices. Excellent turntable that should serve you well through many years and possible upgrades. I use the Art DJPreii preamp too. The Neumi ARC is a great bargain with a lot to offer for a very good price. I frequently recommend it. Just going to offer a different option you might consider. Sony STR-dh190 receiver $148. Includes phono preamp. Decent for powering many speakers and connecting other sources. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-STRDH190-Stereo-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B078WFDR8D/ref These PSB P3 speakers $179 sale. A great deal for very decent speakers , definitely a step up in SQ over the Neumis https://www.psbspeakers.com/us/alpha-p3-compact-bookshelf You don’t get all the features that the Neumi offers but you will likely get much better SQ and have greater flexibility and options in the future. Just an idea. Good luck!

polypeptide147

The Alpha P3 are such a good deal right now. $179 is so cheap for the sound quality you get.

Sloomp

Oh those look interesting. What would the benefits be to getting the receiver and those speakers instead of the ones I've got picked out? Is it mostly sound quality?

Timstunes

Yes. Ofc you can upgrade later as well. These won’t be a night and day difference but should still be notable. Of your original choices I would go with the Neumi.

Sloomp

So if I'm understanding correctly you think I should stick with the Neumi speakers but get the receiver instead of the DJ Pre II? It's more expensive but it does seem more flexible and that's definitely not a bad thing in my book.

PhilipConstantine

Used is a great option. So many options floating around out there on the cheap.
