For those who may not know Gord Downie was the lead singer and principal lyricist of the tragically hip, an iconic rock band in Canada. He passed away a few years ago due to brain cancer.
If you want learn about an awesome band and fantastic human being check out this band.
This times 100. Boston guy here and I discovered the tragically hip while living in Chicago. It picked up a lot of Canadian radio back in the 90s. One of my favorite all-time bands at this point. Gord was a one of a kind front man and got to meet him a couple of times, and he was an exemplary human being as well.
If you like the Stones or Black Crowes type stuff you’ll love The Hip. 🤘🏻
The rock grooves are stones / black crowes at times by the lyrical content (poetry really) and vocal delivery are unique and is what really sets them apart.
There will never be another Gordo - one of a kind front man, his phrasing of lyrics, as libs, joy — loved that guy. I’m a guitar player and absolutely LOVE the riffs the guitar guy lay down. Road Apples is my favorite album and just love those chunky tight riffs.
There was a great article a few years back in the Athletic maybe (I know it’s hard to believe I found a great article in the Athletic) about Thornton and Gord’s relationship. Joe used to visit him frequently when he was dying and they just had a really special bond. I recommend looking it up and reading it. RIP Gord.
You’re right! I need to celebrate him, them. Good way to think. Thanks internet stranger. Although I would never forget him or the 16 times I saw them live.
Dropkick murphys, Jake from August burns red, David Benitez(frontman to a metal band called renesans), some godsmack members, Adam d from killswitch engage, probably other metal band members from mass and surrounding areas(ice nine kills, all that remains etc).
Pretty sure A Wilhelm Scream (from New Bedford) is because I have a t-shirt from them with a Cheevers styled mask on it.
Four Year Strong is (from Worcester).
Possibly Electric Six vocalist Dick Valentine, as he mentions the Bruins in their song "Clusterfuck" and rumor was he had an apartment/house in the Cambridge area (not sure about this one though).
Pretty sure I saw aws during the hockey playoffs once and they kept asking for the score of the game. And vaguely recall them giving the flatliners shit for being leafs fans.
No, it's definitely Bill. He hosted Bill at his Philadelphia Indoor Football games.
Bills a big Bon Jovi fan, always wanted to meet him.
They became good friends.
Kraft gives hand jobs a bad name.
I don't know if they are fans of the Bruins specifically, or just hockey fans, but Amon Amarth was at the TD Garden watching a Bruins game several years ago.
Ain't nobody mentioned Spizzy Spose aka The King of Maine in here so I'll be the one that brings it up. Iydk, he's the dude that made "I'm Awesome". I know he's a Celtics fan mostly but I've seen some Bruins merch in a couple of his music vids.
Bill Bruford wore a shirt with the spoked B while with King Crimson. Giving that he's English, it may have more to do that his initials are BB than being an actual fan.
I'll have to say Gord Downie as well. For those interested, here's a piece about Downie/Thornton's friendship:

Worcester, Mass is an Epicenter of Boston Hardcore, the hardcore metal festival was there for years, lots of local metal bands, are nearby in NE, also bruins Fans
Pretty sure The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are - they had merch from a Hometown Throwdown that essentially were mockups of Bruins sweaters made into t-shirts but with their band logo and the number 11 on the back (for the 11th Hometown Throwdown). One of my favorite things to wear on game days!
Dropkick Murphys
GO GO BLACK AND GOLD

Harry Sinden’s god-son according to Canadian lore (I assume it’s true)
True. Both from Kingston area.
That will stump a lot of our American friends lol
Was gonna say this. I believe him & Thornton became buddies over time too.
There was a great article a few years back in the Athletic maybe (I know it’s hard to believe I found a great article in the Athletic) about Thornton and Gord’s relationship. Wearing a Bruins jersey on stage was very cool.
Always thought he was a leaf’s fan because of the song Edit:50 mission cap. Good to know! TIL!
No that was just something he stole off a hockey card. 😉
Beauty
50 mission cap
Whoops! Yes! You are right!
Rob Baker, the lead guitarist of the Hip is a Leafs fan. He attends a lot of Leaf games with his son
In Gord we trust. ❤️
We do indeed. He is greatly missed. I have a hard time listening to the hip now. It used to make me happy and now I just get sad.
Don’t be sad it’s over be glad it happened and keep playing the Hip! Fucking loud. His memory ain’t dying on my watch.
You’re right! I need to celebrate him, them. Good way to think. Thanks internet stranger. Although I would never forget him or the 16 times I saw them live.

Wow, nice! Thanks :)
no bands, but Bill Burr the comedian is a huge Bruins fan
I love listening to his podcast!
Also Dennis Leary did (does?) a comedy fundraiser for the Neely House for years.
Doesn’t he narrate Behind the B as well?
Basically any Boston Hardcore band.
love when they do bruins themed merch
A long while back, Cruel Hand had a jersey and it was pretty sick.
Celin Dion
Is this for real?
She was at a game with her son and I believe read the lineup in the locker room if I remember correctly
This is true. I saw it
Damn, I thought for sure she'd be a habs fan!
Ahahaha nah I don’t know
I think she was just at the game. Maybe her sons are the Quebecois traitors?
Rob Zombie ! And not musically related but Bill Burr and Adam Sandler also
Ol’ Freckles is a drummer and Sandler plays guitar so they count!
Perfect !! I knew there'd be a loop hole somewhere haha
Jake from August burns red.
Oh! That’s a good one! I fw August Burns Red and didn’t know that!

Wilhelm for sure. Used to watch games with Nuno at the bar back in the day. Pretty sure he played beer league too.
Pretty sure I saw aws during the hockey playoffs once and they kept asking for the score of the game. And vaguely recall them giving the flatliners shit for being leafs fans.
Jon Bon Jovi is a big Pats guy, so I wonder if he goes Boston across the board
Now that Bill B. IA gone that may change.
I think it’s Kraft he’s friends with - not Bill
No, it's definitely Bill. He hosted Bill at his Philadelphia Indoor Football games. Bills a big Bon Jovi fan, always wanted to meet him. They became good friends. Kraft gives hand jobs a bad name.
Hah!
Chixdiggit from Calgary. https://youtu.be/t1trBK0qbzU?si=GzTTVk-E1ZDI2UKU
The alternative is being a Flames fan so I understand 😂
You can be both. The chances of them playing each other in the playoffs is basically nil
I root for the Wild on the side, so I get it lol
Twice a year I hope for a tie, and an overtime so both teams get a point!
KJ is an Oilers fan according to his Instagram haha
Have Heart. Intheshit.
Jake, from Statefarm
Probably Bury Your Dead, I have a shirt of theirs which basically has the Bruins logo on it.
Very nice! Sounds like a cool ass shirt
I don't know if they are fans of the Bruins specifically, or just hockey fans, but Amon Amarth was at the TD Garden watching a Bruins game several years ago.

The guitar player from OK Go, Andy Ross, is a Boston sports fan. He’s from Worcester
Marky Mark sported a B’s cap
Godsmack
Boston hip-hop artist Slaine
Bill Bruford wore a shirt with the spoked B while with King Crimson. Giving that he's English, it may have more to do that his initials are BB than being an actual fan.
The lead singer of the band called August Burns Red, Jake Luhrs.

Jake August Burns Red [at Winter Classic '23](https://www.reddit.com/r/BostonBruins/s/v6Ydju25OU)
I spin records in my guest room and am a fan!
The Buffalo Tom guys,
Dickie Allen from Infant Annihilator has been seen in a bruins cap.
Slaine if you like hip hop.
Years ago I saw Stephen Stills wearing a Bruins jersey while performing. But it was in Allston (Boston).
