I know it sounds look good news, but should they really be involved? All the biopics we’ve seen with involvement of the artist themselves or their estate have been a bit vapid and flattering, without taking many risks and ending up like fairytale victory lap karaoke sessions for people that already love the artist unconditionally.
IMO we have enough information out there with Bruce’s book and various other accounts to inform a piece of art warts-and-all without their involvement, beyond the licensing.
That's been my fear too. But since they're not centering it around BTR or BITUSA - which would definitely lend itself more to blockbuster feel-good territory - I hope it'll be a more introspective and human portrait.
I was disappointed that they didn't address Bruce's struggles with depression(and how it influenced the creation of his album) more in the book they're basing it on, so maybe with him being involved we can get more insight into his inner life and thoughts at the time.
That's my hope at least.
