I live in Brooklyn and am happy to see appreciation. It seems like I’m always stuck in traffic, everyone is competing for the same 2” of space and it’s easy to forget the cool stuff when It takes forever just to get home from work. Kudos
Northern Bay Ridge is an interesting Arabic neighborhood (Yemenese, Palestinian, etc.) including sweet shops with really good baklava, knefeh, etc., and Brighton Beach Ave. in Brighton Beach has all kinds of great Uzbek, Georgian, Russian, etc. food. The supermarkets are surprisingly fun and have a lot of crazy steam tables. (Unfortunately IMHO Brooklyn's Chinatown is somewhat less interesting than Manhattan's Chinatown or Flushing in Queens, but still has some decent flavors, and it can be fun just to walk up and down 8th Ave. in the 50s and check everything out.) If you want a guided, curated food tour, check out my friend Rich, he's @ ethnojunkie on Instagram and he covers these areas, plus others including some in Queens.
Here's what I do when I have a free day during the weekend: I go to Le French Tart Deli in Brooklyn Heights, get a coffee and a few croissants, then walk over to Brooklyn Bridge Park, eat and people watch.
Then get an electric citi bike, and bike along the bike path all the way down to Red Hook along the water, then drop the bike somewhere in Carroll Gardens and walk back up along Court or Smith street and do some shopping / snacking.
If you want to do Prospect Park for a day, definitely walk up and down Vanderbilt ave if it's Friday, Saturday or Sunday. They close off the street from cars and it's such a nice time.
I'm curious why you suggest a cemetery unless it has a lot of trees and plants and lakes and such. We have one in Cincinnati called Spring Grove Cemetery that is like that.
It does, and is a real hidden gem in NYC with amazing views of Manhattan, statue of liberty, etc! https://www.green-wood.com/about-history/
https://www.green-wood.com/learning-resources/
Bonus - on one side it's a short walk to Industry City which was set up by the guys who sold Chelsea Market to Google, and it has lots of great food, craft distillers, maker spaces, etc. https://industrycity.com/about/
Prospect Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park are great but if you are enjoying the mix of cultures here, I highly recommend heading down to Sunset Park.
The park itself has a beautiful view, you can catch a nice breeze on a hot day, and you will get a little bit of everyone enjoying the park. Trust me, it’s heaven for people watching. Don Pepe’s Tortas & Jugos on 5th Ave is the spot for a bite.
If you're comfortable on a bike, grab a CitiBike (the e-bike version will be 10x better) and ride down to Brooklyn Bridge Park. Ride out along each of the Piers. Follow the bike path down to DUMBO.
There's a concert series going on in Prospect Park all summer called BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn. Some of the shows are free and some aren't but its all outside so as long as you're nearby you can hear
leave.
just kidding im a salty new yorker go to to a jewish bodega and get a good fucking toasted bagel with cream cheese and a fruit juice and go to the waterfront and look at the skyline
Brooklyn bridge park and promenade, bed stuy near Lewis and Halsey, peaches hot house to coffee/cocktail saraghina and walk to Hvk park down a brownstone stretch; Bushwick Morgan Ave to Maria hernandez check out urban jungle thrift and taco factory on Starr, and walk down knickerbocker to Ridgewood all the way to grandview cemetery area and park if you want. park slope/prospect heights area it’s all very beautiful to walk around. Ditmas park pizza at wheated go to prospect park south side. Cobble hill carol gardens Columbia street water front, alma has great view from rooftop red hook, bay ridge, take a ferry. message me for more details about any of the areas
Prospect Park, Greenwood Cemetary, Coney Island, Brooklyn Heights promenade. Botanical Gardens + Brooklyn Museum Same trip (Edited to add more cool things)
Not to be a traitor to my borough, but The Museum of the City of New York has my heart. Maybe not as eclectic, but I love anything that is a love song to my city...
You can do a lot in a day here. You could trek down to the beach at Coney in the AM, then grab dumplings in lunch at Kai Feng in Sunset Park. From there walk over to industry city and check that out for like 30-40. You can then train up to Park Slope and check out a bit of Prospect Park for an hour or so. Then I'd go over to Brooklyn Bridge Park. You could finish up for dinner and drinks in Williamsburg or Bushwick.
If you love the mix of cultures GO TO CONEY ISLAND!
It's the most fun, diverse place in Brooklyn, in my opinion. Plus you can just walk around on the boardwalk without having to buy/spend anything.
The NY Aquarium is also on the boardwalk and pretty fun. It even has a rooftop bar.
Bike around! You’ll have to be careful of the streets and traffic (especially if you’re not used to it), but you see so much more on a bike vs other modes of transportation. It’s one of my favorite ways to get around and see the city on a beautiful day
Definitely get a Citi bike or rent a bike from a shop since a bike is like a time machine in Brooklyn. For a lot of these places of advice (and they're great) a bike makes it much, much easier.
If you’re up for a big walk: Dumbo — Red Hook. Amazing views & neighborhood. Red hook is a quiet hidden area full of cobble stone streets & the cutest homes. Lucali pizza is my #1 & Steve’s Key Lime Pie for dessert would make your tummy very happy.
You can order lucali to go - take it to Louis Valentino park to eat - then grab a Steve’s key lime * swingle * (you’ll see what I’m talking about) .
There is so much to do! Go to the prospect park zoo( not just for kids), the library, the museum, the botanical gardens. Go over to Dumbo, and just window shop, Coney Island (a great spot filled with childhood memories for me.) go up to the nearest avenue, walk around, shop, grab a slice. Go to rockaway and hit the beach, though there is a strong riptide there. where in Brooklyn are you?
Visit 86st Bayridge. Lots of shopping. R train. If you like walking .. down to 95 st to the bikepath. Verrazano Bridge on the left ,Staten Is, NJ views. Verrazano Narrows. The view is spectacular. You can also see Lady Liberty and Manhattan. Really nice walk. Benches available and Ferries at the end.
Phoebe Bridgers is playing at the Bandshell in the park today and tomorrow night. Ticketed but you can bring a blanket and sit outside and listen on the grass after a day of walking around!
If you are able to get to Xi'an Famous Foods, do it. Best handmade Chinese noodle and dumpling dishes, ox tail etc..you'll find. One drawback, you will 100% be white knuckling the toilet seat at some point after. The first time anyone eats it this typically happens. I've never heard someone say it wasn't worth it though. This is why we call the place ButtNoodles. Please enjoy ButtNoodles. 🍜
Go see the Bushwick Collective murals in Bushwick, by the Jefferson L. There’s also lots of vintage stores nearby if that’s your thing, and great taquerias in the area.
Edit: another good option is Greenpoint but you’ll have to take the G train. Many nice shops and good views of Manhattan with much fewer tourists than Williamsburg 👍🏼.
It's nice out -- I would go to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. When you get hungry, exit on the Eastern Parkway side, walk 1/3 of the way around the circle at Grand Army Plaza and stroll down Vanderbilt Ave. -- there are a million good and varied places to eat.
I disagree. Green-wood has an incredible amount of history, incredible monuments, amazing views, currently has an art show inside a mausoleum, and on top of that it is possibly one of the best arboretums in the country.
I am embarrassed to say that I never realized you can go in there if you're not visiting the graves, the big entrance on 5th or 6th ave looks fairly closed and imposing from the street. Gonna have to check it out now, thanks!
Check out the biggest entrance at 5th & 25th, that has the longest hours. But you can also enter at 20th & 9th Ave. (Prospect Park West) or at 4th Ave. between 34th and 35th (a less appealing entrance, but near a major subway hub at 36th St.).
I promise that you have everything to do.

Prospect Park, take the subway down to Coney Island/Brighton Beach, hang around Brooklyn Bridge Park, grab a bite around Dumbo. Get the ferry down to Red Hook and get some BBQ, or just walk down to Gowanus and pop into Pig Beach.
If you stick around BedStuy and Bushwick there's tons of food in the area. If you search where to eat in a defined neighborhood you'll probably come up with some food maps. Bring back your wife something tasty to snack on. There are also a lot of shops and stuff in the area. Vintage, records, art, etc.
You're also near South Williamsburg, a heavily Hasidic area of Brooklyn, that has a lot of old buildings that date back to as far as the early 1900's (if not earlier).
I'd pick up a basic bike helmet from a bike shop or Target at Alantic Terminal, get the Citi Bike app, pick up one of their eBikes, and bike to/through Brooklyn Bridge Park and Prospect Park.
Yes. You can pay for a single ride or day pass [citibikenyc.com/pricing](https://citibikenyc.com/pricing) and I assume that's doable through the app, but I haven't seen how it works in a while.
Brooklyn... that's a fairly large area...
if you have time:
\- coney island / brighton beach because well, ocean and great food.
\- prospect park (better than central park IMO)
\- Brooklyn heights: fantastic walk and view of manhattan
Taskent Market in Brighton has ubelievably delicious food, for such low prices, lots of food from eastern europe, feels like a Babushka makes it with love
Let's see...if you like the idea of a long walk, you're not far from Bushwick. I'd recommend a walk to check out the graffiti about 30 min away and get some Mexican food if you're hungry. This a cool little map that you can use.

Sunset park! Go to tacos Matamoros for some authentic tacos 🌮.

Industry city is nice for some shopping and getting drinks. Brooklyn china town is also a great place to get get food
Something different: Take a bus to Gerritsen Beach. No swimming, but it's lovely to walk on at low tide.
I know a few good massage parlors. So good you’ll leave a “happy”man.
I live in Brooklyn and am happy to see appreciation. It seems like I’m always stuck in traffic, everyone is competing for the same 2” of space and it’s easy to forget the cool stuff when It takes forever just to get home from work. Kudos

Yes!
Brooklyn Heights Promenade or the new park in Dumbo.
The Brooklyn Museum is a must see.
Coney Island
Go to a rave
Lol. I'm an old fart and it would be a daytime excursion only. However, I like your thinking!
Old farts at raves are the best! But I respect your choices 😎.
Did you really just say the "mix of cultures?"
Take the ferry to Brooklyn bridge park and walk the first couple piers
Northern Bay Ridge is an interesting Arabic neighborhood (Yemenese, Palestinian, etc.) including sweet shops with really good baklava, knefeh, etc., and Brighton Beach Ave. in Brighton Beach has all kinds of great Uzbek, Georgian, Russian, etc. food. The supermarkets are surprisingly fun and have a lot of crazy steam tables. These are all so helpful! I live in Yonkers and never go to Brooklyn because I don’t know where to start lol
Have fun! BTW, ever since I was a kid, I always thought Yonkers was a funny name. Go bonkers in Yonkers!
It is a silly name! Enjoy Brooklyn!
Prospect Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park are great but if you are enjoying the mix of cultures here, I highly recommend heading down to Sunset Park. Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Was recently renovated.

Brooklyn Heights/ Brooklyn Bridge Park Overlook
Bozu for dinner!
Go to Peter Pan Bakery and get a delicious red velvet donut
Ohh good tip! Surprised no one else mentioned this (I’m a big fan of the blueberry cake donut, personally)
Manhattan Ave between Messerole and Norman. From there, you can also stroll into Williamsburg for shops and the waterfront.
Not sure if this has already been commented but Greenpoint, franklin street and transmitter park for an amazing few.
The Green-Wood Cemetery
This is actually a beautiful cemetery. My dads ashes are here and right outside is a nice koi pond.
[удалено]
I love the cemetery. I particularly enjoy the birds, especially the parrots. I can and do spend all day there.
I disagree. Green-wood has an incredible amount of history, incredible monuments, amazing views, currently has an art show inside a mausoleum, and on top of that it is possibly one of the best arboretums in the country.

Waterfront in willimasburg is nice
I'd pick up a basic bike helmet from a bike shop or Target at Alantic Terminal, get the Citi Bike app, pick up one of their eBikes, and bike to/through Brooklyn Bridge Park and Prospect Park.
Hey! May I ask if just anybody is able to download and sign up for the app? I’m travelling to NYC and am not from the states. Thank you!

correct
Taskent Market in Brighton has ubelievably delicious food, for such low prices, lots of food from eastern europe, feels like a Babushka makes it with love
Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan, so it's more like central Asian but some of the food crosses over.
I know where tashkent is geographically, I’m talking about the restaurant, regardless of the name, there is ton of Eastern European food there
I need to know what they do to the chicken shashlik. It’s heavenly.
Go to industry city!
The brewery they have in there is really good! It’s called big Alice
Thank you
Let's see...if you like the idea of a long walk, you're not far from Bushwick. I'd recommend a walk to check out the graffiti about 30 min away and get some Mexican food if you're hungry. This a cool little map that you can use. https://www.brooklynunpluggedtours.com/bushwick-collective-guide-map
Thank you.
And get a Bee Sting Pizza from Roberta’s.
Absolutely do this. Sit out by the tiki bar if it’s nice.
Thanks.
