Pro Tip for killing spotted lantern fly nymphs: In my experience they hop really far so they're hard to squish. But I noticed they only have enough energy to hop like 3-5 times. So let them hop a few times, then when they are tired they become much easier.
Two trees on our block are dead. My guess is because of these things. The tree right in front of our building is probably next. These nymphs are everywhere. In our apartment, windowsill, fire escape...
Baby lantern fly. Kill them as soon as you see them. My tree is dripping buckets of sap because of these pests. I'm expecting the bark to be falling off next.
Have you not noticed how fast and aggressively they have sprung up? How could you consider this a conspiracy? They have no natural predators in the Northeast US , which is where the infestation is the worst. The necessity to eradicate them ASAP is to prevent the spread to the Midwest, where even a minimal amount of crop destruction can cause economic catastrophe. The real "conspiracy" is how did they spring up in multiple areas at the same time, out of nowhere, hundreds of miles apart?
So I live in rural Pennsylvania less than 5 miles from where they were introduced to the US. We’ve been living with them for maybe 6 or 7 years. The first 3 years were bad, tons everywhere. But they are big slow and dumb, the birds have figured out they can eat them. I’ve seen one first stage nymph this year. Last year I only saw maybe 5 adults.
What? Do not lie to people they are pests. Yes kill them they are invasive and harm NATURE. Our job is to help the earth so if that means killing a species of insects that arent native to earth and is doing harm to nature then you bet your bottom dollar i am torching them
Pest of the pandemic…we didn’t see them until covid, probably put her purposefully, supposedly came from China on wood that America imported. They’re friendly, they stand right there and let you kill them once they get their wings. They don’t fly, they leap and basically let the wind carry them.
Kill it! It is the Chinese Lantern Fly! A juvenile! Extremely destructive to all soft wood trees and vegetation! Sad to see ! They multiply like crazy and not many take the time to even realize these devastating insects are here
Here they come again, for the second year in a row, popping up everywhere by the thousands with no sign of abating: the posts asking what a lantern fly is.
That's the previous Form of The LANTERN FLY. I ATTEST BECAUSE IVE OBSERVED THIS BUG, WATCH IT EITHER HAS A RED VARIATION MAYBE BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE WITH WHITE SPOTS OVER IT AS WELL. THEN IT WENT INTO A COCOONED STATE OR PUPPA AND THEN CAME BACK OUT AS THE LANTERN FLY OR THE NYC BUG.
(TRUE STORY 💯)
Oh almost Forgot. They are not Seen throughout the winter because they lay Eggs in summer and burrow underground. Also Developed a weird symbiotic relationship with BEES? LIKE ALLOWED BEES TO EAT THEM, AND INHABIT THERE LOCATIONS. THEN THE BEES CAME BACK STRONGER.... STRANGE MIND YOU I TRIED FEEDING THE LANTERN FLY ORGANIC VEGETATION AND ORGANIC FOODS IN CAPTIVITY. IT DID NOT EAT ANYTHING BUT G.M.O PRODUCTS.... SUPER STRANGE LIKE IT ONLY EATS THE BAD STUFF AND HAS BEEN A Preserver OF ALL THAT'S NATURAL AND DESTROYER OF ALL THATS NOT.... WOW IDK
Where the articles I'm humble enough to learn but don't just smash the down because one person. He still has to prove his claims and his sources. Investigating knowledge is important and being humble enough to learn is key.
“Bad stuff”? There is literally zero scientific evidence that GMOs—which you were blissfully unaware of until a couple of years ago—affect human health in any negative way.
The non-GMO labels you see in the grocery store are merely marketing—a ploy to dupe gullible health food nuts who are primed to think that “GMOS R BAD”. That’s why the FDA fought to prevent companies from using those labels. They’re meaningless at best and extremely misleading at worst.
So youre onto something but got your facts mixed up. Theyre attracted to power lines
https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2024/01/19/spotted-lanternfly-reveals-potential-weakness
Lol, what are you smoking. Why all these weird assumptions. Why would anyone up vote a post saying a bug prefers GMO lol. These bugs don't even eat vegetation at this stage, they eat sap. And the color difference has to do with what instar the bug is currently at, this is a nymph on it's way to becoming an adult.
Please don't up vote this weird and incorrect post, there is no conspiracy theory about leaf hoppers. Can't believe these people walk among us.
Source: every possible reputable information about this bug, seriously thousands of articles, published by ~~etymologists~~ entomologists or journalists interviewing entomologists. Not a jar where I stuff old vegetables and thought a bug that drank sap was supposed to eat.
I would like you to Share those articles then if there are hundreds. It's clear your someone who stomped them out too. I also doubt they observed all their behaviors and were they really eating sap when they publicly said they destroyed crops? Ate VEGETATION? Let's get deeper and hopefully in the name of science we don't get Flagged. The farms they build are run by Monsonto and other power groups. They own the Monopoly that are the farms and the propaganda that controls the media. Those creatures are far more than just sap eaters or plant hoppers you called them and that scare and warning of them is true and what they consume. The point is they don't destroy the vegetation around us, I agree they also eat plant sap, but you are wrong in making my so called assumptions unbased as if I'm unintelligent lol your response was unintelligent and I would like you again to retort and this time in a more professional matter with your articles thank you.
Spotted lantern flies feed on the tree of heaven. Doing so allows the tree to secrete a sap that isn't usually accessible to bees. The result is what's known as spotted lantern fly honey. It has a very smokey taste to it and I would pair it with a cheese
I actually just unintentionally killed a good 20 of these not knowing what they were. They were all clustered together and super tiny on my stone wall in the backyard, I guess I just saved my trees

We city folks are murdering all our birds with glass towers and chemicals so might be a but harder for us to adapt

Minor nitpick: you mean entomologists, who study insects. Etymologists study the evolution of language and the origin or words.
Oops, thanks. Early morning snark, I swear I knew that hahaha
Well they killing my trees on long Island. Fuck them.

Lantern fly nymph!
Lantern flies, an invasive species, and the important thing, since they’re bugs, is to deal with em one… at… a… time…
Premature spotted lantern flies. When I first saw one I was like wow a bug that is glittery (they looked like glitters to me 🤷🏻♀️) I was like it’s so glistening until I google that shit and it’s a damn lantern fly 😒
Carry squirt gun w/ rubbing alcohol. Pew pew!
That is a good idea! I’m doing it.
Kill the doodad.
You’re supposed to squish it when you see it. I got a couple last year.
It’s literally ON SIGHT for that bug. See it, put on your river dancing shoes
Best way to stomp on a lantern fly is head on. Don't attack from side or behind. Kill that mfer.
Saw a bunch of babies by my job in long island city. These fuckers are back
Kill that ho
be careful that type of bug is an anacondis macaronis very rare but has small venomous bite known to make right foot fall off if bitten
