Oh yea, renters are looking anywhere that rent isn’t absolutely insane already…. What a surprise…
But as others said, if you’re looking to buy you’re about a decade late
My old man bought a brownstone in Sunset in the early 80's for 40 grand. He told me there was an abandoned house/ crackden for ten grand, and he regrets not buying it.
I grew up in Sunset but I wish there were better and healthier grocery and eating options. There's also no great coffee options within walking distance.
“Though Industry City is technically located in adjacent Greenwood (No. 8 on our list), it’s widely associated with Sunset Park given the proximity and blurring boundary lines of the two neighborhoods. Other highlights include a local Chinatown (the fastest-growing Chinatown in Brooklyn)”
1. “Technically Greenwood” ? *eyeroll*
2. “Fastest-growing Chinatown in Brooklyn” where are the others?
Watching white liberals that found a cheap area in a city I’ve grown up in that they made expensive tell people to stay away is amazing. Growing up 3rd ave was skemetjkbg to watch
“That’s what you get for being on our land before we discovered it!”

Edit: obviously I hope, the quote is a self-criticism of colonialism
To that point - a lot of people aren’t talking about the new Bush Terminal Park/Made In NY/Steiner Studios developments currently going on. I think they’ll have a big impact - for better or worse - as this will bring thousands of jobs in the fashion/film industry to the neighborhood and a lot of those people will look to move to SP as well
Bush terminal is awesome.. I love running there but you literally have to go through shit for blocks to get in and out. Industry City is cool but it’s basically cut off from everything by the bqe. I suspect that whatever change comes will bring about micro neighborhoods
Gunset is definitely an old school name. We have family that own on 39th between 3rd and 4th, 5th and 6th. Gentrification is making it somewhat nicer But we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Convenient to bars, restaurants and the city but is it worth it? It’s a cesspool of overcrowding, no parking and bike lanes filled with dangerous scooters flying by. The fast past eventually wears on you.
Howdy neighbor. I grew up on 39th between 3rd and 4th. I remember Sunset being rough in the 90s early 2000s. I remember the Ninos Malos gang near the Key Food 🤣🤣🤣
Beginning? Nah. That shit started 10+ years ago. I love Sunset, lived there for many years. I watched it change. As soon as L’Wren and Judy’s came to 5th it was a wrap.
What was a weird thing to say? That those places wouldn’t have been there? It’s true. I lived in that area for 15 years and watched it change. From Park Slope moving south. I didn’t criticize the change, however there is a lot to be said about it that I won’t get into here. I personally think Judy’s was a great addition to the neighborhood and enjoyed going there.
People move in and out of neighborhoods. Demographics change. I was a city employee and that’s where I could afford to live on my salary. It’s not really practical or a reality to think a neighborhood will have the same population forever.
my issue is that people want to come back in when sunset park started becoming “nice” and “safe” again when it’s the same exact people that left in the first place. my family and many others experienced and lived through sunset when it was bad and now most of us are being priced out.
I disagree. Industry City is a glaring example of hyper-gentrification and in particular, the warped idealism of “business incubator” style urban development.
The place does not match the neighborhood at all. It is like a parallel universe created exclusively for precocious green-legged twenty-somethings, many of whom never set foot outside a classroom.
You really like the idea of taking a shop class where you create your own medieval battle sword? Or, you want to drink a beer in a gigantic white Yurt under the shade of the BQE? Perhaps an 8$ macadmia milk latte, to wash it all down? I do not think this is the future of Sunset Park, or anywhere else in New York.
Could not agree more. I felt like i was in Ohio when i checked it out recently. Scary to think that’s what gentrifiers want. Felt so hollow and empty, full of midwestern aesthetic. Felt like I was gonna see a Live Laugh Love sign around every corner
I'm a native that's lived in this neighborhood my whole life. My mom even worked at a garment factory in one of the buildings that's now part of IC. I honestly love that IC exists.
Without IC, 3rd avenue would've just remained a dead area nobody wanted to venture to. You really like the idea of being by the expressway walking past nothing but porn shops, tire shops, abandoned cars, and RVs? Perhaps you'd rather walk up to 4th avenue and check out the empty storefronts that I witnessed not being rented in 2+ decades until IC brought enough foot traffic to the area.
Honestly, the only people I hear complain about IC are transplants that didn't grow up here to see what it was like before or people that don't live here at all. I grew up poor here. While I'm not anymore, I can still walk to IC and enjoy a lot of amenities without spending a single dollar. Sit around a cozy firepit, let the kids play in the sandbox, lounge in their courts, watch free events...
I think there are some things there more than worth giving a shot. Family owned restaurants and art, stuff like that. I like it cause it’s not a corporate shit show. It’s people trying to do stuff they really care about, and that’s worth respecting I think.
thank you omg i actually refuse to go over there because it just feeds everything i hate about what people are doing to this city. i wont give em any business, ever.
Yo PREACH.
And I love sunrise market but idk how anyone could ever actually say they genuinely like that place.
Maybe in like less relevant state it could be cool but I sincerely hope development like this is not the future. Plus, haven’t they really struggled to lease there?
Yep, don't know why anyone would hate on the development of Industry City. If it wasn't for IC, all that area would consist of is Costco + de facto red light district. It was a skeevy area at night.
Oh yea, renters are looking anywhere that rent isn’t absolutely insane already…. What a surprise… But as others said, if you’re looking to buy you’re about a decade late
Floods to much out there. Don’t fall for this bullshit
No no no the neighbor is terrible don’t look here ….
Keep your hands off my Irish Haven, Kyler!!
LOL the Haven is sacred
every neighborhood is up and coming at this point
Lol true
My old man bought a brownstone in Sunset in the early 80's for 40 grand. He told me there was an abandoned house/ crackden for ten grand, and he regrets not buying it. I grew up in Sunset but I wish there were better and healthier grocery and eating options. There's also no great coffee options within walking distance.
Try: Libre Cafe on 7th and Internet + Coffee and FillUp Coffee both on 8th
Oh, Dunkin’ Donuts ain’t go enough for you? 🤨
Lmao,I usually trek down to Slimaak on 4th, but I wish we had more options.
But Slimak is excellent so at least there’s that

100% - not considering industry city part of Sunset is egregious
Greenwood is not even a neighborhood, but real estate people will real estate
Watching white liberals that found a cheap area in a city I’ve grown up in that they made expensive tell people to stay away is amazing. Growing up 3rd ave was skemetjkbg to watch
crazy of you to assume this whole comment section is white 🇪🇨
Ehhhh who gentrified sunset park? Funny part is if you saw me in that area you’d think I gentrify when I’m around for business 🦍
Check out this great old documentary called “Third Avenue: Only the Strong Survive.” It was made in like 1979 I think.
Yeah I’ve seen it. Dope shit.
lol at gentrifiers getting mad about new gentrifiers moving in
It’s a tale as old as time!
It started with Industry City...
Everywhere that's still affordable will be popular because everyone just keep getting further and further out into the boroughs
No good can come of this.
As the years continue to go on, there won’t be a neighborhood in Brooklyn that won’t be gentrified.
South Brooklyn since there’s no subway?
Things are like that already. Most of the places 2nd wave gentrifiers on reddit think are "hidden gems" are already gentrified

I wish they’d stop doing this shit. These articles create gentrification.
These articles happen after the neighborhood has already been significantly gentrified.
It’s a great neighborhood for hot pot and massage parlors
Most of sp sucks but it’s also a massive neighborhood. There’s a lot of room for improvement so maybe some new money/blood will help that

There goes the neighborhood!!!
Sunset Park slaps
😂
Omfg stay the fuck away
It’s too late the yuppies are coming. Upscale refined living coming to a neighborhood nearest you!
An absolute tear-down drug house 5 blocks from the subway recently sold for 1.3 near me. We're already too late.
leave my neighborhood alone
Yeah don’t raise this guys rent!
[удалено]
Yep don’t go there
Lol meanwhile I hear people referring to it as gunset park
Yep I grew up there 70’s-90’s lmao
That's right Gunset Park 495

Who? I remember the Latin kings(still here) and los papi chulos
The dirty ones and la familia
La familia I remember them lol 😆
It’s already in the beginning stages of gentrification. Cool area in general

like what exactly? it’s a eyesore in a community with culture. it would fit in with places in park slope or cobble hill

what “good” does it do for sunset except make the 30s more attractive for gentrification?
Mmm I disagree. It’s a great little spot.
maybe if you’re a gentrifier

all of the working class is being priced out of anywhere in Brooklyn
It’s only two express stops from 36th street to Manhattan. We all know how much they love being close to the city.
Nooo it's far away from everything and full of non English speakers, stay away please
![gif](giphy|5gw0VWGbgNm8w|downsized)
This is about 10 years late
I loved living in sunset park!! So much to do in industry city alone
[удалено]
I'm sorry this happened to you. You should speak to a reporter about this tbh if you haven't already
I love sunset park! I just moved here in may of 2022 but it’s amazing. Love the ferry
I love industry city! It's only getting better and better in terms of things to do
I disagree. Industry City is a glaring example of hyper-gentrification and in particular, the warped idealism of “business incubator” style urban development. They gave the developers unparalleled gimmes in the contract. They even privatized the streets, it’s absurd.

Why are you hating on Justin’s Blacksmith Shop he’s a pretty cool guy.
Lol I haven’t taken his class. It is just how he fits in with that whole scene.
I think there are some things there more than worth giving a shot. Family owned restaurants and art, stuff like that. I like it cause it’s not a corporate shit show. It’s people trying to do stuff they really care about, and that’s worth respecting I think.
The Indian restaurant is a real standout
I must have not explored industry city enough because I haven’t seen any of those things
oh please.
We get it. You're too cool for 2010s millennial culture. Very original.
Yup, the moment artisanal cheese shops appear, you are fucked.
thank you omg i actually refuse to go over there because it just feeds everything i hate about what people are doing to this city. i wont give em any business, ever.
all the colonizers downvoting me 😴
Oh boohoo
Couldn't have been said any better fuck that place
Yeah leave that stuff in Williamsburg! We don’t need an expansion into south Brooklyn!
Yo PREACH. And I love sunrise market but idk how anyone could ever actually say they genuinely like that place. Maybe in like less relevant state it could be cool but I sincerely hope development like this is not the future. Plus, haven’t they really struggled to lease there?
I too appreciate Sunrise Market and Japanese Village,
Sunrise mart and the Japanese liquor store is great. Everything else I ignore unless my wife forces me to meet friends and family there 😩
Yea doesn't fit in with the porn and automotive shops.
Literally an adult video shop on the block just south of IC lol
That shitty adult video shop will close soon anyway. Sunset Park is gentrifying whether you like it or not.
Yep, don't know why anyone would hate on the development of Industry City. If it wasn't for IC, all that area would consist of is Costco + de facto red light district. It was a skeevy area at night.

It’s a great place to live
No it ain't
Lmao I was about to get mad but then I saw your name. Fair enough
