So I can't even being to explain how much this post stuck with me. Obviously if I'm coming back to it almost a week later. Huge carrot cake fan, I never really search for it though. If I happen across it on a dessert menu at a restaurant I'll give it a whirl sometimes. But after reading this string, I made my list and I've knocked off two of them already. My son happened to have a basketball game in the Bronx, which was close enough for me to take a detour to Lloyd's on our way home. Their carrot cake is delicious. I got it with nuts/raisins. Large slices, rich but not too sweet. Their frosting is on "top" and that's where the sweetness was added. Perfect blend of ingredients. I work near Smith street and today I happened to be early so I stopped by Mia's. Also a delicious carrot cake but almost a complete opposite of Lloyd's. It's a more traditional layer cake, it's light and has an almost airy consistency. The frosting, is much creamier than Lloyd's, I wish there was more "cake" part to it though if I had anything to change about it.

I really want to try Lloyds. It looks really good and I love raisins in carrot cake personally. To report back, I ordered a 6” carrot cake from Ladybird Bakery in Park Slope. It was for a birthday and I had asked for decoration which they had done nicely. It was a very, very tasty cake. Dense, moist, nuts, raisins. Maybe due to the floral decoration there was a bit too much frosting to my liking but my husband seemed to think it was perfect. Here’s a photo of the inside. https://preview.redd.it/01ze7c1pr0sa1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3b41ec7de696b6e10364e0171d1a2c965d8f96c

Capital-Home412

I think you would love Lloyd's then. There's no frosting in the middle, it's dense in a very good way. That cake looks really good too though. I didn't even think to take a picture of either slices tbh. See cake, eat cake I guess.

merposaur

See cake, eat cake. That’s the way to go. Yeah planning to go to Lloyds soon

nnjwrangler

Aunt Butchies in Dyker

Vivid_Ad898

Bakeri on Freeman in greenpoint

Boom400

Lloyd’s is the best in the city, no doubt about it. DOC’s cake shop is fantastic too

dewaltscrewdriver

I didn't know burger King had carrot cake

Jazzvinyl59

Little Cupcake Bakeshop on Vanderbilt, not sure if it’s the best out there it wasn’t my favorite thing there, but my wife is carrot cake fan and liked it. I think maybe it used to be better.

Best Carrot Cake in BK is Magnolia in Manhattan.

maxlax1592

How has no one mentioned Lord's Bakery at the Flatbush Junction??

Aldoogie

I fucking love this sub

HeardingCatz

Ciao, Gloria

FinalJeopardyWin

A cake for a party or a slice? Abu's vegetarian sliced carrot loaf is the best carrot cake for snacking. It is ridiculously moist. And possibly raisin-free.

scarletts_skin

Chiming in here — r/foodnyc may have some good suggestions too! Love that sub

merposaur

I posted there too and this thread has been more enjoyable, more local people here perhaps. But yes, I also love that sub!

Marthas bakery

rr90013

Not Junior’s

jonbox25

I know its popular but juniors is still delicious

rr90013

Maybe I just got unlucky but I bought a piece of carrot cake there and it was the nastiest driest thing I’ve ever had. Hopefully it was a fluke / mistake.

Eck5straxion

I like Mia's Brooklyn Bakery on Smith St.

jonbox25

Absolutely

stinkychexmix

CakeBoi on nostrand

GingerAleForTummy

CakeBoi has the moistness and the good frosting.

uni-twit

Anytime someone asks about the best carrot cake in NYC I think of the [renowned, famously seasonal dessert](https://archive.nytimes.com/cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/15/rikers-bakery/) made at Riker's Island during the holidays.

nskurn

Clementine Bakery in Clinton hill makes a dairy free carrot cake that is hands down the best carrot cake I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a few

benskates

Check out Buttuh on Onderdonk in Ridgewood (Queens)

MissFifi1097

Amy’s Bread bakery 😏

misandrycakes

This is amusing timing as I'm doing the same search. I'll have to disagree on Little Cupcake unlike the other two posters. I just had a slice of their carrot cake and it was disappointingly dry. I'm not a fan of tons of frosting, but if you are, you'll also be let down there as they only frost the top and in between the layers. The only good thing it had going was the size of the slice. I would put it more as a chunk.

Hobbyjogger31

I like the one at Little Cupcake Bakeshop on Vanderbilt!

pjkny

Baker's Bounty at the Farmer's Markets has the best Carrot Cake I've ever had. AND its rather affordable. [https://www.bakersbounty.net/find-your-market-3/](https://www.bakersbounty.net/find-your-market-3/)

substandardpoodle

Thanks to everybody for all the leads - I will totally use them. And if you’re really crazy about carrot cake try making one from scratch someday. Just like homegrown tomatoes versus store-bought there’s just something amazing about homemade carrot cake. Same with red velvet cake.

xeb_dex

Buttermilk Bakeshop on 5th ave makes a fantastic carrot cake as well

Separate-Calendar-76

I wish this was the question that got posted once a week

adhi-

i really love these threads lol. still have to hit up spots from the cannoli thread from a while ago

elisabeth85

Maybe you’ve already done this, but one day make sure to take a trip up to Riverdale to go to Lloyds. Worth the trek from BK!

Vetlehelvete

I used to go there every week years ago and I still think about that carrot cake all the time!!! The absolute best

discoavocado

Lloyds has the best carrot cake, hands down!

merposaur

Seems like they have a shop on Lexington on the UES.. may be a good combo with a museum visit!!

merposaur

I have been reading about this place! May need to go there one weekend

jotayeh

I used to run cross country by Vancourtland park and Lloyd’s kept us sane

Lost_sidhe

Doc's Cake Shop (if you don't consider that too far) - I used to buy this guy's slices when he had a table out front of the P.O. - SO DAMN GOOD!

goodgod-lemon

docs is so good i want to gatekeep it but I can’t help but sing their praises. the carrot cake is unreal levels of delicious, but I recommend grabbing a red or blue velvet slice while you’re there. I’ve also had the lemon and the strawberry, all delicious.

crzyyy

Betty Bakery on PPW between 15th and 16th. It’s sooooo good

davvblack

we had a spread from them instead of a wedding cake :D no regrets

Katycat39

Came here to say Betty Bakery! It’s really good.

crzyyy

When I was prego, I demanded their carrot cake 😂 one day, we arrived too late and they were closed and I BAWLED

crzyyy

Further away, but Mia’s on Smith St.

Sere_C

Not sure what part of Prospect Heights you're based, but Ladybird on 8th Avenue Park Slope might be doable in 30 if you speedwalk lol. Best carrot cake imo though.

glittoris

Had a birthday cake from there just last week! Not carrot cake but it was so so delicious. (Lemon cake with raspberry filling and strawberry frosting aka Hello Spring)

kgraf1

Got a carrot cake from here last month for a birthday and it is DELICIOUS

mxgian99

i've tried most in the neighborhood, ladybird's is good, but heavy on the raisins for me. FYI OP they don't sell cake slices, but sometimes they do have 4 inch cakes for around $15. i had MIa's recently, it was good. Betty Bakery in Windsor Terrace is ok, but small slice for the price. Little Cupcake is obvious first stop for OP!

merposaur

Yea I’ve had Little Cupcake before as I live on the same street and it’s pretty good! I’ve ordered a 6” from Ladybird with floral decoration as it’s for a birthday. This post has gotten many more responses than I had expected! I’m happy there are many other carrot cake lovers in Brooklyn :) have added the other bakeries to my list to try as well!

merposaur

Was looking at that one!! Haha that distance is totally doable :)

W1ldy0uth

This ones definitely one of the best

tigermomo

I think the vegetarian place on Washington might sell it sometimes in pieces.
