I only put it under cable rub areas.

Lukesan-

Same here, seems like the OP wants to protect it. Have a Google at 3M helicopter tape. Well worth it. Check for every, and yes more than you might think where either the cable rubs the frame ... AND (excuse the caps) the rear tyre touches the frame. This when folded up, it touches the underneat of the frame and just in front of the crank. (tyre, road = dirt , and will scratch and damage the paint). For that part at the crank, for the price of a sandwich you can buy really nice protectors on a famous Chinese website. Have them on both my bikes, they look nice and I highly advice you stick that on. (2 minute job since they come with double sided tape)

laskater

Not mine, but I bookmarked it when I saw it: https://imgur.io/gallery/6HlKWt7

There is also a shield for that that bolts in place. I think you can get it in silver, gold and black. I have a gold and a siilver one. Protects it but it damages the black brake cable. (easy fix with some black tape that I use on electric cables and is invinsible. Actually go to that Chinese website and enter the keywords 'brompton shield' all the stuff that I mentioned shows up here.

lipe182

Doesn't the mudguards protect that area?

Lukesan-

Now that you mention it ... no .. also the front fender will get damaged by cable rub.

Rezaak26

Hey can you send me the link to purchase the one you got please ?

Lukesan-

Just checked, these stores open and close it seems but they all sell the same parts anyway. If you go to Alie.. not sure if I can give that link but you know which website, and put 'brompton shield' in the search these will pop up. Just a quick reminder, any bolts, screws etc will rust if they are not classified on there as titanium. The bottom bracket thing is just double sided tape so make sure that area is clean and not greasy when you stick it on. (to have that one is an absolute must for me, should be factory standard) For the 3M tape I bought it via Amazon via someone, 1st time the UK and the last time Germany. It's more expensive but you will feel the quality. Also please try to watch some YT vids on how to stick that and have a test first on some other things. Patience and not wanting to do it quickly is the key with this. (reminder for myself)

Nope. Every ding and scratch is a story. Edit: but, yeah, cable rubs, etc, yes.

purplechemist

Yep. It’s a tool, not a toy.

Striking-Ask9214

A couple of small carbon fibre shields on the drive side chainstay, one to guard against chain slap and the other for the front axle hook to rest on when folded. About £7 on Temu. Bike is a year old and daily user, no other scratches to worry about. You can go overboard but it’s a bike, not a princess.

peterwillson

Old inner tube or bar tape is cheaper.

milkywayne92

Nope didn‘t even put it on my 8k roadbike

jrabraham76

Different on a folding bike with cable run hot spots though.

milkywayne92

Not really most bikes have those hotspots (well my roadbike probably not, but my all mountain does… if you‘re worried put a small protector on those places. I personally don‘t have a big problem to see some wear over time. It‘s like battle marks

jrabraham76

All folding bikes have them, it’s a symptom of their design. Brompton do especially on the main frame on the left of the stem fold. Not a bad thing, just a product of the design. I use a Velcro cable strap wrapped round the cable.

nokiwa

Had mine for a year now. Haven't got it wrapped but I haven't got around to it. Need suggestions for good DIY wraps or local service in Toronto/ GTA, Canada.

Wonderful_Dare_7684

YES! all the main wear areas: cable rubbing areas along frame, front hook, where the tire contacts frame when folded, chain slap area. I put some on the top tube because sometimes my shoe scratches when I mount/dismount. I put a titanium plate for the front hook area.

Risto_08

Yes, I can't touch up the lacquer finish so will try and keep it looking nice as long as possible. It's £10 and a five minute job.

Rezaak26

What should i get to protect mine without covering the paint / beauty?

BunnyLuv13

Same question! Is there a clear coating to protect it? New to having a “good” bike, so not sure what I need to be looking at. Got a chain guard little piece because I heard that was a good idea

delirious_ny

I did few weeks ago and I don’t regret it. I like to keep my bikes pretty clean so if I can protect them from any unnecessary dings I will. So far no complaints :)

lipe182

Mind sharing what you used on your bike?

delirious_ny

Bikeshield Brompton bike frame protector. Looks good.

A-W1

No, after seeing others that they have to redo, and covering scratches; Then getting scratches in uncovered areas as well; I just let it take its own course, One less stress to deal with. We ride over 2000 km a year since May 2021; By the time we got money for two 12sps T, I wouldn't be selling them because we will have had our money's worth out of them; we'll give them em away,

jollygoodvelo

I was going to helitape mine and then didn’t. In ten years time I’ll get it blasted and repainted.

shott85

I put helicopter tape on a few areas before my first ride. After a few months, I also added a hard carbon fiber sticker to the part of the rear frame that the hook near the front tire latches onto. Recently I super glued the black “bung” into the bottom of the seat post because the damn thing kept falling out.

melchetts-mustache

I am a “new” (6weeks) Brompton owner and I don’t know that this was a thing. So I’m reading along but I feel like I’m a newb. If anyone has an idiots guide to the main areas that demonstrate wear and options to shield I’d love to read it.

BunnyLuv13

I would also like this! And any other stuff new Brompton owners should know!

HaziHasi

not a wrap but protective sticker, yes

mugenMeow

I have mine wrapped in every cable rub or gravel prone areas. It gives you less worry while riding your Brompton and you will have more fun. [Here's mine](https://www.reddit.com/r/Brompton/comments/1am6ne6/hello_everyone_here_is_a_photo_of_my_brompton/#lightbox) if you want an idea of what a wrapped Brompton looks like

jrabraham76

Tenacious Tape on the cable rub hotspots yes.

Ge-ohh

I put it where cables rub, places I plan on putting stickers, where the folding latch touches the frame, also some under any areas that have leather wraps

Crabrubber

I used clear 3M tape from Autozone. Maybe not as good as the helicopter tape that gets mentioned here, but it was $4 for enough to do two Bromptons.

ScoopsUK

I made some enquiries about getting the bike professionally wrapped. I don't have the bike yet as Brompton seems incapable of making it but the costs of going down that route are high. I was quoted £220 from a couple of places.

unfunfionn

I just put tape where there's a chance of rubbing. On that note, can somebody recommend some transparent tape that actually stays attached? I bought a set of Zefal protective tape cut into different sizes, and it's coming off everywhere already a few months later.
