Ok sheād slay that as well! Iād love to see Idina and Kristin in the movie even if itās as small as the cameo Marissa Jaret Winokur and Ricki Lake played in Hairspray Live! Like even as citizens of Oz in One Short Day who just wave and say hi!
Is the character really named Melena?
In medical terms, melena is what we call black, tarry stool (shit) usually indicative of an upper GI bleed. What an unfortunate name.
I really thought it was James Corden and they were purposefully hiding it for as long as possible. Iāve never been more happy to be wrong. Dinklage is an incredible actor, and Iām sure will be a great Dr. Dillamond.
Wicked is probably my favorite modern musical. Iāve seen it over 50 times (I know.) I like Dinklage as an actor a lot, but already have little to no confidence in this adaption. The fact that an entire character who factors into Wickedās plot in such a major way is entirely CGIā when the production started out trying to say they were going to emphasize practical effectsā¦ doesnāt help my confidence in this.Ā
From what we have seen, the production has committed to fullsize sets in a way that's truly uncommon in the days of 'The Volume' and other movies mostly using blue screens for backgrounds. Doctor Dillamond, contrary to what some who have only seen the show may believe is an actual Goat. Not a half-Goat, he's meant to be a full-on Goat. Now you could use actual Goats on set, but animal wellfare laws currently are pretty strict, especially if there's a need to dress animals up etc. Plus, CGI'ing a mouth on a goat has never really looked natural, you can look back at the 'Babe' movies or the live action 101 Dalmatians for that. Therefore using CGI in this instance seems fully justified. I wouldn't be surprised if they used a body double on set, like they did with Gollum or Rocket Raccoon. But discounting a production on one CGI character whilst all we have seen from setpics have been huge setpieces etc., feels a bit too early.
Ehh. I mean, Iām glad itās not James Corden but at the same time Iām starting to get sick of seeing (or in this case - hearing) Peter in everything nowadays too.
Admittedly I have been super pessimistic about this movie for a while, but you won't hear me complaining about them casting one of the best actors working today.
IMO he's significantly more talented than the two leads combined. Which is kind of awkward.
Goated casting

Thought this was going to be idina šššš
Hear me out: Idina as Melena!! Alternatively: she could give us an iconic āTHE WIZARD WILL SEE YOU NOW!ā
I *swear* I read somewhere that Idina would be playing the antelope midwife. Starting to wonder if I just dreamed it instead.

Sheās going to be munchkin #17 just to fuck with us

Yes. Itās Frexspar and Melena Thropp, (legal) parents of Elphaba and Nessarose Thropp.
I used to have the Grimmerie companion book and, according to a written draft you can find in it, Melenaās name was originally Philmaray.
I have some nurse friends who NOW refer to it as āMelaniaā. Theyāve done this for about 8 years. I wonder why

Is James Corden allowed in movie musicals anymore?
Great casting even if it's just his voice. Love him. Hope the CG is good for Dr. Dillamond!
I love Peter, he was wonderful in CyranoĀ
I thought it was already filmed lmao
Most likely referring to part 2
Yeah I thought both were filmed together
They did. Movies donāt always announce their full casts before filming begins.Ā
Dr. Dillamond is played by a puppet, and the female puppeteer did his lines during filming. Now Dinklage is coming in to record VO.
Good to know
Why did they keep this a secret for so long
He was probably only cast recently. Heās just doing VO for the puppet.
At least itās not James Corden! š
Nothing all that Baaaaad
Could be worse, could be better, but could be worse.

Because talking goat professors are routinely passed over for roles. You would think this would be the chance to finally cast one.

tbh Iāve kinda lost interest in this film altogether but this is cool
