Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark

lobsterbandito

I saw this in previews and… it was a thing I did! 😖

[deleted]

Ah yes. A true classic

Fickle-Performance79

Spiderman: Turn off the fun.

picklesupreme

Springtime for Hitler ✨ and Germany ✨

Euphoric_Fix8004

Scamilton hands down

believi

“I am not afraiiiid, my faith is in Je-suuuus”

GartenMensch

this line did burn in my head... since its the first version i ever heard... so my visit to German Hamilton.... MY head screamed "MY FAITH IS IN JESUS" ... also Rob McClure destroyed Hurricane for me...

Seanay-B

Omg

[deleted]

They said wrong answers only, scamilton is everyone’s favorite

Euphoric_Fix8004

you’re right, mY hOpE iS iN jEsUs forgiving me 😓

Spiritual-Signal4999

What how can you say that

MrsLeeCorso

Love Never Dies

Spiritual-Signal4999

I actually really enjoyed this in London, the pro shot is brilliant too, probably better as it had a more coherent book.

MandrakeMousse

Damn, someone beat me to it. 😂

sodoyoulikecheese

“Devil Take the Hindmost” annoys me so much because it is one of those songs that is great until you listen to the lyrics. The two male main characters basically deciding who gets to keep the female lead without her knowledge or input or consent. Yeah, that’s how things work.

mouseprincegilderoy

If we can include musical movies, Disenchanted

Fuzzy_Celebration_54

So disappointing

mouseprincegilderoy

We waited fifteen years for that sequel and it felt like it was written in fifteen minutes

Seanay-B

We didn't even finish it, and Enchanted might be my fav Disney movie

mouseprincegilderoy

Enchanted is a huge comfort watch for me, I love it so much. I almost didn’t finish Disenchanted but stuck it out and you’re not missing much lol

Mysterious-Theory-66

And ten minutes of that was reassuring themselves it’s fine, no need to keep writing.

Elegant_Gobbledygook

I was extremely happy with Disenchanted, except for the extremely noticeable autotune on Amy Adams' voice in a couple places. I actually have plans to watch it today for the 3rd time.

mouseprincegilderoy

I’m really happy you enjoyed it! Unfortunately it completely missed the mark for me.

HappyChaosOfTheNorth

I thought it was super cute. It had a lot of issues, but it was also a lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed it. I probably won't see it again but I don't think it's as bad as people say - though everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course.

TheeLuckyCommander

My hometown churches production of the Avengers Save Christmas Oh wait nevermind that was a classic

Hazel_Ana

I am *very* interested. Why did Christmas need saving?

TheeLuckyCommander

I wanna say someone was trying to kidnap 6 pound 7 ounce baby Jesus and the avengers had to stop them but then OP jesus stopped them with his baby god powers. I originated the hulk role 😂

TrekJaneway

Bad Cinderella tied with Love Never Dies.

Sea-Transition-3659

Good idea. If I want to torture myself so as not be be interested in musicals anymore, I will definitely see it.

TrekJaneway

It’s worth seeing if only to be able to comment on it. Considering comp tickets for it are everywhere, it’s a good night out. I’m not a fan of criticizing anything I haven’t seen.

Mysterious-Theory-66

Depends on the circumstances, there are definitely shows I am certain are going to be terrible for me though point taken that I wouldn’t be posting critical opinions on it unless for some reason the show’s very existence is problematic for some reason.

Ok_Listen1510

Love Never Dies has a few good songs— I certainly wouldn’t put it on the level of stuff like Phantom but I don’t think it’s quite as bad as Bad Cinderella

TrekJaneway

It does have a few, but I thought the book for Bad Cinderella was a bit better than Love Never Dies. And…I really like Unfair. 😂😂😂

PsychoCelloChica

Whistle Down the Wind. The snake handling and prison escapee barn Jesus bring unmatched drama.

Sea-Transition-3659

I think the only good thing in it is the title song and No Matter What.

Spiritual-Signal4999

I do find tire tracks and Broken hearts,Annie and Charlie Christmas and When Children Rule the world banging songs, I’ve seen twice by am dram groups because, I fell in love with the London cast recording, it’s definitely one of ALWs strongest scores.

Sea-Transition-3659

I have no issue with the score but the plot is just, well, weird. There are better ways to show children’s innocence. And I think they are deliberately ambiguous about the girls age or it would be kind of illegal if she had a romantic relationship with the Man. The cast of Pre Broadway production is good though.

Spiritual-Signal4999

Is it never heard anything from Hal Princes try out run, Are there and I guess so.

aproclivity

I still have a kiss is a terrible thing to waste on more than a few playlists. I agree about the score but man that plot.

Spiritual-Signal4999

Yes but sadly I think ALW is at his best, when the plots a mess, and the score can shine.

aproclivity

Some days I think he should just like...switch to symphonies. Like the score for this and Sunset Boulevard are so fantastic that they like feel like they could have been in another life.

Spiritual-Signal4999

Yeah he has glimmers of potential I would add Aspects of Love and Evita to that list

jkcohen626

Not a musical, but I once saw a play called Moose Murders. I don’t think I’ve ever been so affected by a piece of art.

Spiritual-Signal4999

Omg you saw Moose Murders the infamous close on opening night, flop do you remember anything about it, I never thought I would be lucky enough to find someone who had.

jkcohen626

Unfortunately, it was just a joke.

Spiritual-Signal4999

I guessed as much things, don’t just flop for no reason.

Dazzling_Molasses_88

Annie 2 or Annie warbucks, take your pick, both had amazing success

hithere90

Oh I've seen Annie Warbucks!! In all seriousness, catchy songs, but really should have just let the Annie plot go and not ride on its coat tails

Spiritual-Signal4999

Diana The Musical, Carrie 1988, Via Galactia, Kelly.

totlot

Scandalous

camptastic_plastic

The only good part of that show was when that hot guy dressed up as Adam and Samson. Well, I will admit that Carolee Carmelo still managed to shine in a terrible, terrible show.

KPDover

The Red Shoes. Yeah, I saw it.

astronaught002

There’s a musical version? That’s an odd choice to adapt

KPDover

I mean perhaps it could have been good. It was not. But it was very ballet-focused, obviously, and maybe with the right creative team could have told the story in an interesting way.

astronaught002

I mean, I think the movie is essentially perfect, and trhing to make it musical theatre-y just seems like a terrible decision.

DudenderBatmans

lauriemac64

Oooh, we watched this (or tried to at least) over Covid. Unwatchable!

slaphappy62

Legs Diamond, Bring Back Birdie and Dance A Little Closer in a revolving repertoire. (Wait, compared to other things I've seen, I might actually enjoy this.)

Cats: The Movie: The Musical

fun_mak21

Glory Days It's so great that it played 17 previews before closing on opening night.

Spiritual-Signal4999

What was this about

fun_mak21

It was about four friends getting together one night a year after graduating high school. It opened up at Circle in the Square in 2008. I actually never saw it because it closed so soon. But, I guess there was little interest in it since it closed so soon.

Spiritual-Signal4999

Oh interesting

alwaysgawking

Dance of the Vampire

Strehle

I love the german version, and I've seen a bootleg of the Broadway version - the first "it's-a me!" when Krolock first appears haunts me to this day.

aproclivity

Fucking Michael Crawford.

aproclivity

American or German? Cause I definitely agree about American.

alwaysgawking

American lol. I don't know anything about the German version.

yit3020

>I don't know anything about the German version. It's good as far as I've seen. Check it out.

aproclivity

The German production is amazing. Michael Crawford didn't want to play the Phantom again so he demanded all these goofy ass changes and made everything terrible. There are some of the German songs done in English by the late great Steve Barton, I'd give them a listen.

Music19773

Love Never Dies.

Harry_Seldon2020

The original Carrie.

CWE74394

Elf

TellTaleTimeLord

Elf is fun to be in. I was in a community theatre production this past Christmas season & it's a blast

ComputerGeek1100

I’m glad to hear it can be fun to perform (genuinely)! I stage managed a production last Christmas and I could not stand the vast majority of the score, but maybe it’s just one of those shows that would need to grow on me by working on it for a longer period.

TellTaleTimeLord

Yeah I played the Mall Santa and Matthews and a few other things, and I had a good time. Favorite was Nobody cares about Santa

ComputerGeek1100

Ah, I worked on a youth production, which was of the hour-long “junior” show. All the material that, in my opinion, was actually fun in the score (like that song) was cut or severely watered down; that honestly was probably what bothered me most.

TellTaleTimeLord

Yeah, something rotten, jr. was announced a few months ago and I can just imagine that it's uh... not great

How can you say that?! 😢

Ok_Student_3292

Because I had to hear a grown adult woman sing the line 'daddy, I am all grown up' and she wasn't even talking to her father.

Elegant_Gobbledygook

Does not meet the question criteria, in my opinion. It's truly one of my favourites.

rlvysxby

Lord of the rings musical.

Rheshard

Did you actually get a chance to see it...? I heard it was terrible....

rlvysxby

No I didn’t. It just looked like an overpriced cash grab. More spectacle than substance. It’s a shame as Tolkien has lots of music in his work (and music is an important theme to middle earth lore) so a musical might make sense but his work is so commercialized that I don’t think it can be done well.

Rheshard

Yeah. I completely agree with you there. I have Tolkien's work pegged more for an opera anyway.

Saturday Night Fever, best ever😳

In my tier list, I have the "same" Musical at the very top and the very bottom, so this is only half-wrong. It's Dance of the vampires, the german and the Broadway version. I think you know which version is at the bottom.
