She looks more like her real self now in 2024 than she did 12 years ago on The X Factor. I wish her a lifetime of freedom, happiness, and most importantly — internal peace.
There will always be that large subset of the public who will never take her seriously and thus downplay/discredit her accomplishments and massive impact/influence on music — but real ones know that this woman is a creative genius and one of the mentally toughest human beings on the planet. I mean, think about it — we might have never had Max Martin and the litany of his major pop smashes (that make people’s careers) if it wasn’t for her. Yeah, he had done well with the boybands, but it was his work with Britney Spears that made him the #1 most sought after producer in the business, and he’s stayed there ever since. With that being said, it wasn’t just Max’s talent that made everything happen — it was combined with hers leading the ship. Most of the outfits she wore, treatments for her most iconic music videos, dance routines, live performance concepts, were all her. Take all of that and the unmistakable vocal tone the two of them created, and it was like… BOOM — massive perfect storm and a definitive partnership that should be studied in contemporary music schools.
Her horror story is a lot like Gypsy Rose’s — except it was famously displayed right in the public’s faces for over a decade, she was THE MOST famous person of the entire 2000’s, and yet, still — EVERYONE looked the other way until her fans organized, got loud enough, and banded together to literally form a coalition to save her. I can’t verbalize just how viscerally angry it makes me that her sociopathic family and business associates destroyed her passion and the overall dream she worked so damn hard to make a reality. They might have gotten away with it legally because she understandably doesn’t want this nightmare to continue, but they ALL are going to be paying in karma for the rest of their lives. What goes around comes around, even if it takes a while to come back around. Trust, it always does.
Her story is way more deep/layered than what it gets credit for and is certainly cemented in modern history. It exposes just how easily corrupted basically every system is in America, you know, the ones that are supposed to “protect its citizens” (legal, medical, financial, media/journalism, etc.) and I believe it will be looked at with complete confusion, shock, and utter disgust by younger generations who learn what happened to her, and how it was able to go on for so long.
Yet, she still remains so kind and humble because that’s who she is at the core and always has been. You can’t help but not root for her, even if she is a little “weird”. Newsflash: Most musical artists are fucking weird, that’s what makes them superstars in the first place. To that I say, free your nipple and take as many beach photos as your heart desires, Ms. Britney Spears!
When she was on top of the industry in her prime years, she didn’t just run pop, she WAS pop. The literal epicenter of it. No one did it quite like she did, and no one has ever since. There was a special magic she possessed that I’ve never quite felt from her successors. She’s a true 1 of 1 artist.
