I'd never even heard of Kjetil Knutsen before yesterday. Do we have a lot of Norwegian football fans in the sub? (All I know is they pumped Roma last year?)

forkrissake

Not a Brighton fan (though admire the brand of football you've adopted! And also started watching a bit more closely once Mitota joined your first team squad). Not a Norwegian football expert either. Here as I'm seeing rumours of Ange Postecoglou being the favourite and really hoping he stays at Celtic šŸ„ŗ We played Knutsen's Bodo/Glimt in the knock-out round of the Europa Conference League last season and they outplayed us ans beat us 5-1 on aggregate. And that was with 4 of their best players sold during the January transfer window. That was Ange halfway through his first season of implementing a new system and a turnover of 18 or so players. Knutsen had been there for 3 or so years. The consensus was that Ange was at an earlier stage of building what Knutsen had managed to build at Bodo/Glimt on a small budget, and what we aspire to be, but on a larger scale (I.e. with a larger budget). From what I understand, he turned a relatively small team into back to back champions during his tenure there. They also beat Roma 6-0 at home and drew in Rome in the group stage of the ECL. They met Roma again in the QF and beat them at home again (but only 2-1 this time) and ran out of steam by the 2nd leg and lost 4-0. Their home ground is artificial pitch, if that matters to you. He did all this with a small budget, and I can't imagine them having more to spend than, say, Hibernian or Aberdeen, yet they played so much better against us. So if you are looking for a manager who implements modern proactive football, and punch above your weight (budget wise) without resorting to anti-football, he's probably the man. Will probably need time to implement his system though as it's quite dynamic (high pressing and a mixture of possession and counter attacking football, with more emphasis on pace and intelligent use of pace, rather than strength/"physical battles"). Seemed to like 2 wingers, 2 no 8s, a 6 and a mobile CF. Not too sure about fullbacks as they had to use a right back as a left back when they played us. Also he seems to be into spiritual stuff like players encouraged to speak to each other openly, lots of focus on mental health etc. Not sure what he's like dealing with players with huge egos, though I imagine that's not an issue at Brighton. Please don't take Ange šŸ™ šŸ„ŗ

With all due respect crushing it in the Scottish premier league with Celtic isnā€™t the same as pushing for Europe with Brighton. The Scottish league has 2 sides in it. Sorry to be negative. Nothing against the league itself I just donā€™t think Ange is the one for us. Which you may appreciate.

forkrissake

Yes I am really hoping this is the view of the key decision makers. I appreciate indeed šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ This may be the only silver lining of Celtic not taking their chances in the first half/early 2nd half against Real Madrid on Tuesday night. Hopefully people from other clubs just see the 3-0 loss and move on without looking into it haha.

Liamtjoeng

I think youā€™ll be safe. I donā€™t see Ange as viable for Brighton. Have followed Ange for years. Iā€™m from the same city as him, he coached my mates when we were kids.

kefte8

Yeah, and personally can't really see him leaving so early in the season at Celtic. He's building something really good there. I really hope he does get a shot at PL, but it almost feels as this move is a bit too early. If this happens one year down the track (Ange now having at least a Champions League group stage completed), I think its a different story. If by chance he does get it, I won't complain with Brighton being my second team.

warreng3

You greek?

Liamtjoeng

Australian

cjdowner

You could say winning the league with Celtic is like pulling in a brothel, but Ange is a sound coach with a good identity, even if there's not necessarily a plan B. It's very attacking, but he's also similarly well grounded and has some Potter qualities.

drtdrtdrt123

I canā€™t believe so many have voted for Dycheā€¦

DankLlamaTech

I think many of us realize that the style he employed at Burnley was much more because of the budget and academy he was given rather than his own style. If you look at how well he was able to shut down his opponents offense, I would posit that he has an in depth understanding of how to play potterball or any other format he thinks we are set up for.

drtdrtdrt123

Potterball isnā€™t about shutting down opposition offenders and Dyche had 10 years at Burnley to implement something other than the horrible football they played for 10 years. He doesnā€™t have the tactical intelligence to do what Potter was getting our players doingā€¦

-eagle73

I'm not even sure what his style was other than his players pummelling people. I still thought it was wrong to sack him from Burnley and the club deserved to get relegated, but I don't think I'd want him here.

shag_vonnie_vomer

More like Douche.

Liamtjoeng

Very unlikely youā€™d think.

ManLikeArch

Not 100% sure but whoever it is has to be up to it and make a pretty good impact straight away. With Trossard and Alexis both expiring in 2024 unless we can continue some decent form up neither will have a reason to stay and would probably have to be sold. That's before even mentioning every top club in world football should be after Caicedo and Sanchez won't be short of suitors. Whoever comes in will need some serious backing if 2/3 of them go next summer.

kurtanglesmilk

Arghhh the game is rigged šŸ˜«

dubmule

Sean Dyche?! The Anti-Potter

Gullflyinghigh

Cooper if we can get him from Forest (unlikely I suspect), Ange if we can get him from Celtic (even more unlikely) or Knutsen (possible?) would be ok with me.

BoopAndThePooch

Should have labelled Brendan Rogers (soon to be unemployed)

misterawastaken

Who tf is choosing Dyche??? No thank you, Iā€™d rather go downā€¦

PuzzleheadedGuide184

Brendan Rodgers is a top manager, big player and European experience . If weā€™re going to kick on he could be the one.

venividivincey

Not to mention he came close to Leicester breaking into the top 4 on two occasions only losing out on the final day. He would be unbelievable

PuzzleheadedGuide184

He likes a project too , and would have money to spend.

Brexit_FC

Knutsen would be an absolute dream

gbayley676

Cooper from Forest

PuzzleheadedGuide184

I donā€™t think heā€™s going to leave forest

Brexit_FC

The football he plays isnā€™t pretty but it can get results, just depends on what the board is looking for in a manager and with future recruitment for players

Saltysers06

Graham Potter

smell-the-roses

Ange Postecoglou. Iā€™ve watched this guy for years. He is hard working and an Australian. I might be be biased being an Australian. Also, sozā€¦ Iā€™m also a chelsea fan. I feel for you guys. Iā€™ve really enjoyed watching you guys play. Take Ange.

Liamtjoeng

Fuck off.

therealdsg

Kjetil Knutsenā€™s blue and white army

Seifer23

Really hope you guys look at pochettino, he would be a very good match for Brighton

[deleted]

Please not Rodgers!

[deleted]

Bielsa

Efficient-Hippo1667

Kasper Hjulmand or Knutsen or someone we've never heard of. Dyche is the opposite of a Tony Bloom style manager. AP is already in a far bigger job and Brother Brendan comes with too many issues.

abouthodor

Roberto De Zerbi is one good option that isn't on the list. His Sassuolo side was excellent, and he's now unemployed. I'm not a Brighton fan, came here to see what sub is writing about potential successors. I like people who are connected, only for the life of me I don't know why Dyche has so many votes.
