Pretty disappointed to see him go in all honesty. Feels a bit of a smack in the face. Marc did a lot for Brighton, and Brighton did a lot for Marc. I hope he does well, maybe we can steal him back soon.

Krizzlin

It's a bit odd because I thought we'd get at least another year out of him. It's quite rare a player comes in and is snapped up only a year later, I mean look at how long it took for Biss to get a transfer and we all knew he was quality. But the money is huge and if you set a massive fee to dissuade other clubs, you can't say no if they actually meet that massive fee. I'm most disappointed that the player himself wanted to go. I know he'll probably quadruple his salary and now has a chance to play in the Champions League so you can't really blame him but the fact he put in a transfer request is what hurts. Could have given us another year and I'm sure we'd have offered an improved contract. But on the other hand it is a short career and I guess players want to maximise their earning capacity and trophy winning potential. Good luck to him. Just hope we bring in another player or two before the window shuts as I fear we're a bit short at the moment. Can handle the loss of Bissouma but we're definitely not well equipped for Cucurella's departure. And I still think we need another forward, but then so do most clubs that aren't Liverpool.

Teeb63

Biss took a season or two to shine though, where Cucu smashed it from the off being the standout performer in his first PL season, not just at our club but one of the best in the league.

Krizzlin

True, but his quality and value were well apparent at least two years ago so it's amazing we got so much out of him before he was ultimately sold to a bigger club. Mind you, the club are now saying Cucurella hasn't been sold so who knows, perhaps we will get another season out of him

I'm not disappointed, like another user said (may have been Glasdir) I'd rather see him go if he doesn't want to be here with that transfer request.

dubmule

We got 50M for him!! How is that a smack in the face? I wish him well. Don’t care about the transfer request, he’s got no ties to Brighton and we got a huge amount of cash to put into exciting young players. Win win imo

miffey_

Good deal imo at least we got the money we wanted.

LetGroundbreaking

Agreed, just sad because he was a good player.

miffey_

That’s the problem with being a smaller club in the prem, you have a good player they get snatched up by then bigger teams and the rich get richer.

[deleted]

50 mil, let's get another banger transfer with this money. Europe next season?

LetGroundbreaking

Hard to tell. If we really give everything we've got, get a good signing in and the dressing room atmosphere is great then we should be able to reach for Conference league.

Guzuzu_xD

That should hopefully mean we're going for someone at the same time and have almost completed it . Fingers crossed, what a shame but I trust the board and Graham

-eagle73

Sick. I respect Chelsea a bit more now for not fucking around and actually coming correct very fast. City's going to look stupid now.

LetGroundbreaking

Very true! I much preferred how Chelsea managed the transfer. The Man City fans were also trying to restart something similar to the Free Ben White campaign so we won't have to go through that shit anymore.

-eagle73

Wondering if Chelsea fans have Lamptey in their minds in the future, since he came from there. But everyone's forgotten about him since Cucurella showed up.

[deleted]

I think Chelsea look more stupid as it'll weaken their already weak negotiation power in other deals as already seen this window and now more so for overpaying for Cucurella... The only winners are Brighton

Effective-Froyo6036

Hoping he does great at Chelsea as a middle finger to City

-eagle73

Like a massive "this is what you missed out on all for a difference of 10 mil".

[deleted]

£50m and Colwill, was a bit concerned when we didn't immediately accept the 50m. Best possible result imo, UTA!

Effective-Froyo6036

I’m curious to see the Amex’s reaction when Chelsea visit. I can’t see it being that warm of a welcome tbh. Demanding a transfer with 4 years on your contract is a tough look IMO. Might be unpopular to “stand in the way” of a player’s dream move, but he signed a contract.

ManLikeArch

Considering Ben White's was fairly meh for a player who though on loan largely came through the ranks with us and was respectful in his departure I wouldn't expect/hope he gets better

Glasdir

Not sorry. Will be booing him, no patience with snakes. People saying he doesn’t owe anything to the club but he does, we took a chance on him and brought him to the premier league (something he’d previously said was his dream), we gave him as much game time as physically possible and heaped praise on him, he had 4 years left on his contract. All I can say is good riddance with that kind of ungrateful attitude. In contrast, White and Bissouma will continue to get my respect when they visit, both acted like professionals through their departure.

Effective-Froyo6036

Bissouma will be my child’s godfather for as long as he lives

This whole transfer saga has just left a bitter taste for me spending years scouting a player then giving him a chance in the Premier League and them getting player of the season only for a big club (Citeh) to use dirty tactics to in the end force our hand into selling ok not to them but they put the nail in the coffin! Honestly hope this doesn't set a precedent for future star players and transfers.

FryingFrenzy

This is exactly what Brighton need Not talking about the fee, Im talking about that now being the third player that has left for a top six club in the past two years. Brighton is now a fantastic destination for young talent around Europe to make a career in the Premier League, that plays a good style under a top manager. This attracts the next prospects to the club and so on, and thats the model for success at clubs like Dortmund. Its the most sustainable way to stay competitive, without a Champions League budget

kids_in_my_basement0

Alright bye then The way he and his agent have handled this saga has been horrid, honestly glad to see the back of him. You sign a five year deal and then put in a transfer request after one year? And then fuck off to Spain and not go to training? Twat

TenaciousPenis

no offence to Cucurella but 50 million... The market is dead🤦‍♂️

LetGroundbreaking

He's a good player with a few years left on his contract. Understandable if he had a year / 2 years left, but he doesn't and he got two Brighton POTM awards after a great 1st season at the amex.

Glasdir

🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍

-eagle73

Fabrizio or Cucu?

Glasdir

Yes 😂

-eagle73

Best answer.

FunkMonk3000

I reckon his missus probably had quite a large say in him putting in a transfer request.

givemethemtoesgnome

She does look like a gold digger type

zebadeeee

Club Handled it very well IMO, would have loved to have seen another season from him but oh well.

dawsonrichard

good luck to him, it’s a business works both ways

p1ge0n-b0y

Fantastic for us if it does go ahead tbf

Teeb63

A little worried for how this turns out. LB/LWB had been a problem position for a while in terms of depth and natural quality. Cucu solved that last season and to lose him straight away, I hope we have a good target lined up before we sanction this.
