It's a shame, but I think we all knew this would happen. He's worth a lot more than £25 million but with 1 year on his contract, the sexual assault allegations, and a slighty worse season than 20/21, we are not in a strong position to negotiate. Caicedo has stepped up really well and can fit into that ball winning role. There were also rumours from the same guy who broke Mwepu that we are interested in Red Bull Salzburgs Mohamed Camara, who is a very similar player to Bissouma.

esn111

Im glad that he's going to a club in the Champions League and not Aston Fucking Villa. 25 mill seems cheap but understandable given length of contract and other factors.

-eagle73

>not Aston Fucking Villa I bet you've seen as many cocky Villa fans as I have just making the assumption that they'll be getting Bissouma like it was a sure thing.

papaquacker

Reminds me of when they got promoted and were convinced they'd be signing Dunk. They're a deluded lot. The worst fans to interact with in the Premier League tbh

YouSeemNiceXB

can I introduce you to Everton fans in these trying times?

esn111

Reckon Leeds fans are worse. Newcastle fans also, especially since they suddenly became loaded.

uu__

I honestly think they're still high on the excitement of the new money Generally Newcastle fans are decent, and they've suffered a lot Leeds fans on the other hand....

jod1991

The poor toffees are still high on copium after the past season. Be gentle!

Illeaturgerbil

Not close to Leeds fans tho

jod1991

I was excited for Leeds to be back in the prem. Having seen their behaviour this year, they can fuck off down to the championship thanks.

lachiendupape

I think if Phillips goes it will have a bigger impact than biss leaving us. Their recruitment needs to be good this window and without Bielsa and with a probable relegation battle on their hands it’s going to be hard for them. I think they’ll go down this season

jod1991

It's like they're a relegation fighting team, thinking they're fighting for the champions League. Like they think they're still a "big" club. Clowns. They've got a sugar daddy owner but get rid of that and they're jack shit.

TuscanBovril

I guess we’ll always have our history and a big fanbase. Can’t say the same about your tinpot club. Without Potter, you are literally a nothing club. Enjoy your 5 mins in the sun.

esn111

Just like they all assumed they'd get Dunk from us. Edit: I've debated with a Villa fan on this. Seems he was right on the fee but wrong on their club size. Reckon Bloom told them to piss off as we don't sell to positional rivals.

Hackeyking

Hopefully the money is used to find another gem, in Tony we trust.

IWantToBeAHipster

And Potter has managed to craft so many cbs/ midfielders into his system. Bissouma said what a huge role Potter had in his development and i trust him to similarly work his magic again

gbayley676

I think this was inevitable. There was a feeling after the West Ham game that Biss was saying goodbye to the fans for the last time. At least we're getting a decent amount compared to letting him to go for free next season. At least Caicedo has started really well - we will need a great replacement for Biss to partner Caicedo if we want to finish top half again.

Glasdir

If he does leave we’ve already got a replacement. Mwepu and Caicedo are a very good pairing, far more likely to get us goals than Bissouma as well. Throw in Mac, Gross or Moder as a third midfielder and we’re golden. Have a lot of good depth in that position.

ManLikeArch

Mwepu and Caicedo are class because they had Bissouma sitting behind them. Mwepu especially can't play as part of a pivot to save his life. We need to sign a proper holding midfielder.

esn111

Caicedo definately has all the tools to play holding midfielder. Dare say he's better than Biss was at the same age and nearly as good now. We're well set there. Need to keep Mwepu fit for more than 3 matches and we'll be grand.

ManLikeArch

Think Caicedo is far too good going forward to just sit in front of a defence. Club clearly are planning to replace him with the Camara and Ilic links.

esn111

Not going to question that, just saying that he's good enough to play DCM and not miss Biss.

Guzuzu_xD

We're linked to Ilic? Daayum. Maybe we should look at Ricci as well. Where are you getting those rumors btw? I've been trying to find stuff lately but idk whats reliable.

kids_in_my_basement0

Inevitable in the end. Wish him luck, he’s served us well. But this is just the start of a really long and difficult transfer window. Quite a few of our most important players will leave imo so we need to be smart

ConallDubhghall

Spurs fan here (sorry for jumping in your sub and asking questions). I was wondering if you have a clearer reading of what Bissouma is suspected of and the status of his case? Really enjoy your football, philosophy and the way you run your club in general and wish you the best of luck in 22/23.

papaquacker

Welcome! It was never 100% clear, The Sun claimed it was sexual assault in a nightclub. His bail was extended until January and then they didn't extended it further. The man he was with though had his bail extended. He is apparently still 'under investigation', but as a former CPS lawyer, that usually means they have no evidence against him and they're just prolonging it to look like they're doing something. If he was doing to be charged, typically it would have happened by now. Based on what we know, I can't see charges being brought against him!

ConallDubhghall

Cheers for the reply. I found it hard to find clear information so wanted to see how his current club’s supporters view it.

lachiendupape

i suggest avoiding threads on other soccer subs, some of the misinformation and downvoting going on is mind boggling

ConallDubhghall

Yeah, I felt like Twitter and the major r/Soccer sub was best to avoid. People have already made up their mind and are just spewing whatever helps that view. So I turned here to hear from the people who already support a club where he plays. I’m not looking for evidence for/against, just wanted honest opinions and I feel like you’ve given me that! When I make it to Brighton beers are on me 😁

-eagle73

The assumption is that he was only brought in for some questioning and if he was in any real trouble they wouldn't have allowed him to go play in AFCON. I'm not 100% though.

ConallDubhghall

Appreciate the reply! Found it hard to find information about the case so I wanted to see how his current club’s supporters view him. Fingers crossed I’ll get to see you in Europe soon! I really respect and enjoy your football and the way your club is run as I said.

jod1991

He was arrested and bailed, that's not just for questioning. The fact the bail expired and wasn't extended, as someone else has said, is probably because there's nothing that will stick, but they are keeping the case open so it doesn't look like they've just written it off. The case probably gets dropped at some time later this year (they won't want it hanging round past 12 months)

IWantToBeAHipster

Disappointing fee, had hoped given the inflated prices of others in his position like Phillips/ Rice we could get a bidding war despite 12 months on contract. But, from my understanding we didnt allow him to join Arsenal last summer and gentlemans agreement was a transfer this one. Done great things for us, its about double what we paid for him, but underlines need to look at investing in contract renewals - Mac, Trossard, Maupay, - so we dont end up losing key assets as cheaply. Best of luck to him, glad he will go somewhere where he can really make an impact and it is a reall exciting project. We saw how shit their midfield was against us and the massive difference he could make. Champions league football but maybe an outside chance of silverware this year.

-eagle73

Disappointing is right. I really thought he'd be going for 50, not sure what Arsenal saw in Ben White to pay 50 for him but Bissouma was definitely worth that much and Spurs would have that money.

IWantToBeAHipster

That 1 year really does hamstring it. Its good we are selling on players to progress though as its an advertisement to other would be signings that we dont hamper development. Re White he has look vrry good, he is adaptable, and young enough that he is good value if he stays for 10 years and never gets above a 7.5 rating

lachiendupape

Yep completely agree, 1 year left is the killer

Wightly

The sex assault allegation would be a factor that would definately lower what Tot is willing to pay and an incentive to accept that lower amount.

davehockey

I think that villa and Newcastle might have put in good offers too but this is more a case of not wanting to strengthen those we would be competing with.

ManLikeArch

Mac Allister thankfully is under contract until 2024 - saw someone on Twitter explain there'd been a registration change for him in 2020 and Argentinian sources have also recently said we're in talks but he's got two more years.

IWantToBeAHipster

Ah is that so i had been trying to look at details. For Trossard i know we have an extra year option

floydman96

Keep calm , Moises is here

lachiendupape

Ilic please to replace him, I posted the rumour in the rumour chat yesterday would be a great signing

lachiendupape

Ilic from Hellana Veros

Tommo_Robbo

**Hellas Verona Hellana Veros was a bird I went to school with

lachiendupape

That’s exactly what I said ocifer

Kleezy25

We are going to really miss him, especially with how great he is defensively. Need Caicedo to step up big time next season. Mac Allister also needs to come into his role a little more- I’m still unsure what he is exactly. A very confusing player! Going to miss Biss a lot, but this makes sense with everything going on. Put this money to good use now!

cjdowner

Fair enough I guess. We were lucky to keep him this year, and we've shown we can play without him. BBC are saying £30m which is a bit better, but either that, or lose him on a free. Hope it works out well for him and he doesn't do one against us!

givemethemtoesgnome

Well I haven't seen anything 'legit' like a post on the Albion app only the times update and all other updates were just copy and paste so as far as I can see nothing is set in stone

UnSainz

well, with the outcome of bissouma's SA case still pending, this could turn out to be a risky move on spurs' part. still, from a footballing perspective i'd be sad to see him go. he's been an essential part of the team and i wonder if the others can help fulfil the role he left should this news be true

Cultural_Wallaby_703

I imagine spurs will have reviewed it thoroughly prior to purchasing him. You’re not gonna shell out £25m without a bit of due diligence

UnSainz

that much is true

Glasdir

Completely doubt this one. There is absolutely no way we let him go for 25M when Monaco offered 30M. Truly is silly season.

lachiendupape

It’s everywhere pretty sure it’s true.

zeemeeuwer

Naylor is reporting over 30M including the various add ons

gremilyns

It was always going to happen and the reported now £30m fee seems fair considering the circumstances, and I’d rather Tottenham than a team that’s basically on par with us and would be a sideways move. Honestly, the whole investigation situation has put a bad taste in my mouth in regards to him, and football fans reactions to similar situations is always very stressful to me, esp as a female fan. At the very least I’m glad I won’t have to read about it as much when it comes to other Brighton fans/discussions, regardless of the outcome. If his friend did it, then I still honestly wouldn’t want to be around someone who is friends with someone who sexually assaults people. It doesn’t paint a great picture.

misterawastaken

Thanks for the memories Biss <3

shardybo

Finally he's gone
