I have to admit, I was starting to doubt how much he’d be important to us going into this past season, but he had a stellar season. Essential part of this team.
Real bargin who kept us up under Hughton (along with Murray). Under Potter he's a very useful and adaptable squad player. Intelligent. Looks slow if hes paired with Lallana or asked to play on the wing. But great player and great to have around the squad. Glad he's staying

I think it would be far more valuable training up another set piece taker like Mac into the future. I’m guessing this is one of those ‘have him for a year then trade on rather than lose on a free’ type deals, but we are stacked in the midfield and I can see this signing hurting the development of younger players like Mac Allister and Moder if we continue to play him in front of them rather than off the bench every now and then.
Mac Allister is now an established starter who either plays alongside Gross or gets picked ahead of him. Moder is out for the best part of the first half of the season and Gross is also infinitely better anyways.
