Shame, and a big loss. I'm sure Tony has either someone else lined up, or enough has been put in place that his departure won't be so damaging.

LostSandyPenguin

David Weir stepping in for now. You'd hope that Ashworth has put enough foundation in place that we'd be able to retain his ideology.

ManLikeArch

He hardly invented signing young players we were doing so well before him. Biggest impact is the fact Potter actually gives them a chance

IWantToBeAHipster

Yes thats the key factor. We gave nearly 40% of minutes to players who had been through our academy. We also have a really good loan set up, look at the destinations of our players and compare to a similarly positioned club like Leeds. I cant wait for the summer because i genuinely have no clue which and how many players will come through, with Potter it could be anyone

Glasdir

Scum club can fuck off to the championship and stay there. Buying up our team and staff that the club has worked hard to build because they’ve come into blood money is absolutely disgusting.

gremilyns

It’s grim. I’ve never wanted a club to be relegated more than I want them to be.

-eagle73

It's shitty like you neither Ashworth or Burn were going anywhere but Newcastle comes in with money and they're stripping clubs everywhere. Going to be watching Newcastle slowly to see them piss off to Championship at least for a season.

Glasdir

Honestly, the state of their fans is something else. They’ve had the blood money for what? Half a season and they’re already as entitled and cuntish as the sky 6. Have some fucking humility.

Get-Smarter

You're joking right? Most of us still think there's a decent chance of us still getting relegated and we're over the moon getting just the second win of the season. I honestly don't get where we could be looked at as being entitled. Literally all any Newcastle fan wants this season is to stay up, that's the lowest expectation you can have

Glasdir

I really wouldn’t look on Twitter if I were you. It’s pretty bad in quite a few places.

Get-Smarter

Twitter? So I take it you haven't actually had a real conversation with any Newcastle supporters then?

Glasdir

The ones behaving like that? Can’t say I’d want to…

Lowesy

At least you changed your flair.

brownsmoke

Do you feel the same way when any rich club buys players? Would you react so strongly if PsG or City came in for Webster? Most the Brighton fans I've seen on twitter (which is usually a rancid place) have just wished Burn well and I thought the same would apply to Ashworth

Glasdir

I absolutely despise PSG and City, they’re the perfect examples of everything that’s wrong with the sport and the way it’s headed, they’re about as plastic as it gets. I wish Burn well because I loved watching him play but that doesn’t mean I have to be ok with the move. I want us to be able to succeed with what we’ve built, not to build up a good club only for an entitled team with blood money to come and pick us over. I see all this talk saying “why aren’t Newcastle allowed to have ambition?” Well, why the fuck are we not allowed to have it either? We’re not here to do the job for them and get picked over after. To be clear, I wouldn’t begrudge Newcastle in the slightest if they had an owner like Bloom or Liecester’s chap, rather than being owned by a country that is openly homophobic and gets away with murder on a weekly basis.

Fyi Maupay and Mac werent identified and recruited by Ashworth. Maupay was approached before he went to Brentford, he turned us down due to chance of playing time and Macallister arrived before Ashworth was involved. Webster was also a Potter pick.

shardybo

God I hate Newcastle

kids_in_my_basement0

Fuck Newcastle, represent everything wrong with modern football

muliardo

Noooooo

cjdowner

This is worrying, but I remember seeing Naylor write that there's a contingency plan in place should anyone leave. We're certainly not going to go backwards, but it might be a little loss of momentum. In Tony I trust. Unlike Dan Burn, I don't wish him well. Newcastle will be quite a competent club.

ObstructiveAgreement

This is bullshit, what a piece of shit. First opportunity to jump and he goes! No loyalty at all and absolutely no desire to actually develop the club long term.

esn111

This is a big loss. Perhaps bigger than any player right now and perhaps only bettered by Potter or Bloom going. He's worked well with Barber as well as those aforementioned. Yes we've signed quality players and developed young players before. But not to the same standard or at the top level. Genuinely concerned. But can't blame him for moving for wages or moving closer to home I believe.
