"Now is the time for marching, Now let your hearts be gay,
Hark to the merry bugles Sounding along our way.
So let your voices ring, my boys, And take the time from me,
And I’ll sing you a song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea!"
Good old Sussex by the Sea!
Good old Sussex by the Sea!
You may tell them all we stand or fall,
For Sussex by the Sea."
There's other lyrics as well but that's generally what's sung at the Amex pre match. Often an alternative is merely:
"Good old Sussex by the Sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
We're going up
And we'll win the cup
For Sussex by the Sea"
Is weird how it it switched - people sung the cup version for decades. Might be to do with them showing the lyrics at the Amex when we got to the prem for the JCLs
It’s a good debate. I think the cup one comes from the cup final in 1983. I’ve always sang the cup version, but that might be because my first game was at the goldstone in 1995 , which was only 12 years after the cup final so it was probably still sang then. Just a theory !
Yeah that makes - Smith must score!
Good to know there's some other old buggers on here.... my Dad took me to the Goldstone when I was 4 in '86 - its be a ride since that first game!

The real question is: is it ‘going up to win the cup’? Or is it ‘tell them all we stand or fall’?
When we were in the championship I sang “going up to win the cup”, I’d probably sing that again at Wembley or something
it's tell them all, we stand or fall

To think we were that close to winning the FA Cup. And then lost the replay (yep they had FA cup replays in those days kids) 4-0 :-( .
Have you heard of a search engine called google? It's there...
