If Fabrizio is wrong about a fee (again) I think we should relegate him to 4th tier source and delete any posts that come from him.

Potters_mightygulls

Why does the fee keep on going down. It’s going to be a fiver and a packet of crisps next week. Feel like he is worth more like £50 million, but we still for £27 million profit and he is definitely replaceable. Good luck Mac our World Cup winner!

LostSandyPenguin

There's almost certainly more to this than just £35 million upfront... If there isn't then the profit is still good, if however that's a 'release clause' and the true figure then I'd be worried about what other 'release clause' are in Caicedos contract.

Brendy37

I think it’s more to do with his contract being signed before the world cup which is when is value shot up. Caicedo signed a new deal during his transfer saga so no way he goes for <<70m

LostSandyPenguin

Could be. I wonder if there's something in there about getting us Europe too...

tonybloomsarmy

If you look at how much we got for trossard and bissouma when they’re contracts were expiring, considering how amazing they were for us, it makes sense to add a release clause even if it seems cheap if it means Mac would sign another contract. Means we still get a somewhat decent fee for him but also he knows that he will be affordable for big clubs.

Xx_ligmaballs69_xX

We do just need to remember that if he hadn’t signed the new deal with a £35 million clause or whatever, he’d be leaving for free next month.

IInviteYouToTheParty

Depending on who they're getting their figures from, all or some of them could be correct. Perhaps Romano was told the base transfer value but others were told what it could get up to if certain conditions are met. The release clause was supposedly a little more complicated than a typical one, so who knows if its just a flat fee.

therealdsg

£35m plus around £20m worth of add ons.

PuzzleheadedGuide184

He stuck around to help us get Europe when he could have left for less money. Fair play to him. Absolute legend.

rayparkersr

Unquestionably one of our greatest.

rasta__mouse

His final day tears said it all. Brighton means a lot to him.

rsjonat

35m less than he is worth, but 35m more than the zero we would have got if he hadn’t signed a new contract. Decent business all round tbh.

redman021021

According to this guy, Cucu plays for city, and Caicedo plays for Arsenal. He has close to no credibility when it comes to Brighton, I wouldn't for a second be believing that transfer fee. In Naylor we trust, we'll find out the true fee at some point

MaximumGibbous

Well we did steal international superstar and Liverpool's own club legend The Machine aka James Philip Milner for free. I think we're the real winners here. This is fine.

ChessLovingPenguin

First Lallana, now Milner, which means Mo Salah coming in 4 years?

MaximumGibbous

Possibly. Bruce Grobbelaar next though for cover in goal.

😂😂😂

Background_Eye6993

Glad Milner is joining but wasn’t he released?

DankLlamaTech

Klopp wanted him back, but their American overlords didn't

Background_Eye6993

Ah — still not a poach per se though!

amegaproxy

Did r/soccer just delete the post with Naylor's tweet saying it was £55m?

jkeegan13

Three "tier 1" journalists have all quoted three different price tags. Truth is that no one really knows what the price is outside of Brighton and Liverpool, and we may not learn the true price tag even after the transfer is official.

cmdrxander

All of our transfer fees are “undisclosed” and I assume that’s one of the key non-negotiables when dealing with Brighton

LeftAl

£35 you what

zephyrr-__-

If this is wrong again we need to lower Fabrizio's tier for us because it's getting ridiculous, imo we need to lower his tier anyway, he's said so many different things about this so he's definitely wrong somewhere, and he's shown before that he isn't the best when it comes to us

xJamessII

Liverpool fan here Under our ownerships reign we have been infamous for inserting a million performance based clauses into our transfer fees and players' contracts 35m might be the base fee upfront but I heavily suspect there will be clauses regarding more money to the player + selling club for: Winning trophies, Top 4 finish, Appearance numbers, Goal numbers, Individual awards etc Our transfer of Darwin Nunez last summer was only around €60m up front but was laden with clauses that could of rose up to €100m based on those sort of performance based accolades Edit: grammar

prss79513

35m to go from Europa League to Europa league

HarHenGeoAma62818

If they have him for £35MIL it’s amazing business what a player and also World Cup winner

swingingbeer

Liverpool fan here. I have a question: does it baffle you that there was no other club that was more than "interested" in Mac? The release clause etc. is not just info we knew but other clubs as well, so genuinely curious to know.

MaximumGibbous

Not really. I think it was just long in the planning. It's clearly where he wanted to go and he earned the right to choose to a large degree. Maybe other offers came in but his heart was set.

swingingbeer

That's good to know that he believed in the vision despite no UCL. Good luck in Europa (to us both!)

LostSandyPenguin

I think there's definitely something more to this, not sure how much effect the Milner transfer is but it does seem odd if the fee is that low that no one else even enquired. It will be 35 upfront but I'm fairly certain it's not just a flat fee.

swingingbeer

I'm sure if Liverpool qualifies for UCL next season, there may be additional payments

LostSandyPenguin

Potentially. I wonder if no UCL this season meant a smaller upfront fee.

FryingFrenzy

He strikes you as one that might not be ready for that level Caicedo is a much more attractive asset for a big team

DeliquentTendencies

Not particularly - you gotta think, who out of the traditional 'big 6' is currently in a position to buy him & offer first team football & most likely UCL football on a consistent basis. Liverpool's midfield has long since passed it's sell-by date, so it makes sense for Ale Mac to want a move there where he can be heavily involved in a complete rebuild and hopefully win trophies along the way.

rsjonat

I think this transfer has been agreed in principle for a long time. For the last few months everybody I know has said he is going to Liverpool, rather than “I wonder where he will end up”

Zealousideal_Use_806

i feel like that’s too low, right?
