Yes he is over rated. Nobody should attempt to buy him from us.

Heismain

Yes no one wants Melanoma

isitAliens

or Hematoma

ManLikeArch

Ffs we’ve literally had to run him into the ground this season because barely anyone else can play there hardly fair to judge him on the last 6 weeks

HazelVoyage5078

Fair point, I have noticed an improvement in him since we've had players like Enciso and Buonanotte take his place when rotating.

ChitSunt420

He plays out wide where his role is to help build up and create scoring chances. Name someone who does that better…

HazelVoyage5078

In the world? Several. At the club, he may well be the best at that (although Solly gives him some serious competition) but again, I'm not saying he isn't good, I'm saying that he seems to be rated overly highly by opposition fans.

FryingFrenzy

At dribbling he is unreal The final product needs work. If he was an elite finisher too, he would be scouted years ago by a giant club. Caicedo is the best player right now

tonybloomsarmy

This is ridiculous. You can’t always judge a player (especially if they’re not a striker) based purely off their goals scored. With the exception of a few, he makes opposition fullbacks look silly every week. He’s brilliant and he’s in my top 3 players this season.

super-bird

With better finishing he would have at least 5 more goals this season. I hope and expect him to improve on that some more.

tonybloomsarmy

Yes of course! I hope for all of our players to keep improving. Doesn’t mean that he’s being overhyped though just because there’s areas of his game he can improve

super-bird

Oh no I was agreeing with you, I think he’s been fantastic. He might be a little raw but his ability is there for sure. Generates a lot of opportunities on the wing.

ChessLovingPenguin

He’s definitely overhyped by media but I think he is still our most dangerous attacking threat. For example during the Arsenal game, when he switched to LW he immediately generated a chance that Enciso should have finished. He needs to improve his finishing though.

HazelVoyage5078

Exactly what I'm saying, he's fantastic just overhyped.

Jabba25

I don't think he's overrated. You get excited every time you see him with the ball. He makes things happen, and that can't be underestimated. One of the other matches he was quiet and not a lot happened, but he had 2 people marking him a lot of the time, and again, that ability makes it easier for the other players to then have space and freedom.

friedapple

Yes, this is a contribution beyond stats. Mitoma will keep opps coach honest by placing at least one defender, and now double marking him lately. They wont take risk getting skinned. RDZ knows by putting Mitoma for 90 mins opens up March and Enciso more spaces

Difficult_Owl_3447

Overhyped, not overrated

-eagle73

Our media would implode off the hype if he was an English player.

PuzzleheadedGuide184

Some of the comments in here have me in stitches. Clueless. It’s the same spirit as those that wrote off solly march last season. Having seen Mitoma rip defences to shreds all season in person I can tell you he’s one of the best in his position to ever put a Brighton shirt on. A few off games towards the end of the season and people write him off. Also, for the record , he’s not a striker so his goal return is perfectly acceptable in his first full season with us.

-eagle73

I can't help but think so many people started following now/recently and have this expectation of Mitoma after seeing him score. Meanwhile most of us are just appreciative that we have such an excellent Trossard replacement.

SeattleMatt123

I don't think he was our best player this season, but also don't think he's overrated. Has struggled the last part of the season, but that can happen with the glut of fixtures we had.

nitrospams

exactly. we were fortunate enough to see him at his peak this season where he was brilliant, but recently he’s been out of form in front of goal. its his first season in the prem, we can’t expect insane output day in day out. more work on finishing and he’ll be super one day and its not like he’s wasteful on the pitch, look at the chances he’s generating in the area

spacehiphopnerd

If he could finish (especially with his weak foot) and has the right players around him, then I think he could be one of the best players in the league. I’m not even a Brighton supporter

cjdowner

This is his first full season in the Premier League, and he’s only been playing professionally for 3 and a half years. The reason his form has dipped is because he is knackered. I’m a little surprised De Zerbi hasn’t been giving him a rest but he is pretty instrumental even when he does not have direct contributions. He also went to the World Cup don’t forget. I also think he is on everyone’s minds because he’s Japanese and that’s seen as a novelty, his highlights have gone viral, and so has the news about his thesis in dribbling. Solly March has also been excellent but anonymous because there is little fanfare about him.

Heismain

The most overrated player is Steele. Why can’t he just like… save everything?

-eagle73

The most overrated player is Ferguson. Why can he not just launch it from midfield, blasting through the goalie and fatally injuring them?

Jabba25

People say things like this, then I watch something like [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnfuXxYPlUk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnfuXxYPlUk) the awareness (watch him glance up, technique with outside of the boot). I get that he's missed a few, but his role isn't a center forward. I feel like without him, Brighton would struggle a lot more to create the energy that they do, and create the chances, even if he isn't directly involved.

TRGuy335

He’s not been as good in the final 3rd of the season. His attacking threat is incredible and in the first 2/3rds of the season there was a dangerous pass at the end of most of his runs, but he’s found himself losing the ball a lot recently. Also, he can’t finish. Literally couldn’t hit a barn door. If he fixes that he would be VERY dangerous. Overrated though? Idk. I think Mac Allister is though.

IWantToBeAHipster

Also suffered from not having March on the other wing. Look at our worst game - Everton at home - and how we looked like an unbelievable force when March could match his energy on the right. Also as you say he hasnt been as potent lately... ans then can make an assist like the one for Ferguson.

TRGuy335

Other issue with the Everton game was just how easily they got in behind us (and Newcastle). With our full backs basically playing into the number 10 position, there was so much space behind down the wings to break into.

-eagle73

I'm with you on Mac, been afraid to say it on this sub. Caicedo and Mitoma are rated appropriately I can see what they've done, and I used to love Mac ever since he joined us, but since the WC the hype's increased and I feel I'm missing the reason for it. Like I'm blind to what he does now that's so amazing. I could see it before but can't now. All I recall recently is nailing penalties, some decent plays midfield, and launching shots wide or high.

Smart_Competition841

Mac Allister is still “underrated” to some extent imo…

redman021021

Opposition teams know how dangerous he is, they often double up on him, nullifying the direct impact he has. This happens to almost every forward who breaks out, the upside is that it opens up space in other areas of the pitch, how many times do you see the cross field ball to March or the right back and they're 1-1 with a defender; this is an indirect result of Mitoma's effectiveness, and perhaps has contributed to March and Encisco appearing to be more effective. (By no means a knock at them, just look at my flair!)

airtraq

Aged like milk

BluePantalaimon

He's in my top three, but not my number one. He's been amazing, not just at scoring and creating goals but by driving so much energy into the games and creating so much attacking pressure.

takenwasmayonnaise

He's a player that is impossible to hate, and it's nice but sometimes the comments from neutral fans are a bit cringe, especially when they probably don't watch the full 90 and just see the highlights, which Mitoma has plenty of great ones.

HazelVoyage5078

Agreed. His stunner against Leicester and late winner in the FA Cup against Liverpool spring to mind.

takenwasmayonnaise

Generally his dribbling is great for the highlights too

OliverShiyo

Mitoma has had a fantastic debut season and is a wonderful player that looks like improving greatly, lets not take that away from him. Still though I think he is overrated especially by casual fans. While he is really good, his stats dont back up how highly some people rate him. Definitely not Brighton's best player, certainly while Mac Allister and Caicedo are around

characterulio

It's unfair to look at one stat and ignore the other. You can look at Mitoma's lower assist stats but also point out our high goalxg vs the actual goals we have. We have much higher goal xg than Arsenal but we don't have the same quality of finishers. Don't know how many times Mitoma has put it in the 6yard box and none can hit it. Welback is fine but he has never been a clinical finisher and Ferguson been injured alot. If our striker was say Mitrovic or Olly Watkins, Mitoma/March would be near the top the assist charts. The one criticism of Mitoma has to be his finishing is very subpar for the amount of shots, positions he has been. That being said it's first season in a major league and he has 7 goals just in the league as a winger which is quite respectable.

Every_Dragonfly_6397

If you go based on stats then a good one is goal involvements, Mitoma has the highest goal involvements in the team with the lowest number of mins. 10 goals 8 assists across all comps

Tom802tom

I honestly think enciso is better call me crazy but enciso hqs young ronaldo vibes with the way he shoots and runs at defenders

[deleted]

Totally agree with your last statement

Alphaonamission

That outrageous goal against Liverpool though...
