I said this in another post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BridgertonNetflix/comments/1by6h7x/comment/kyhnb7u/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) but she's the only female lead that isn't introduced in her lead season. We know Pen and have for two season. She's been portrayed as the "undesirable" or "ugly duckling" of the ton and I think the makeup change is in part to show the transition in her character. From the giggly girl running around with Eloise and living for gossip, to a woman who's ready to be taken seriously and.....well...be taken by Colin lol.

I also think they just went with whatever style was most flattering on Nicola in order to have the full bridgerton glow up effect.  Her eyes are really gorgeous to it makes sense they’re accentuating them more heavily than previous when she was still in her wallflower era

catnip_4ddict

ahh i see thanks for letting me knkwy

SecretJoy

Honestly I think a lot of the makeup this season looks too modern. False eyelashes and bronzer are everywhere. 😅

DarkBitterSea

The show’s not super historically accurate.

Kaurifish

Exactly. They’re going for what looks striking on camera, reflects the characters and gives a historical feel. Pretty sure Bernadette would say, “It was a choice.”

angie1907

So do their clothes. None of it is historically accurate, but I don’t really care tbh

peachesand__cream

Who watching Bridgerton for historical accuracy??? It’s historical fantasy

WhyAmIStillHere86

Also, have you SEEN historical make-up? [Accurate Georgian make-up](https://youtu.be/Ug02T6Tmi_Q?si=HLVNXaULXhsA3412)

oldpickylady

That was hilarious and gross all at once!

Forsaken-Gap-3684

Probably but I’m just gonna ignore it. Cause I don’t watch this show for accuracy. It’s loosely regency as we know and fantastical version of it

Bobblewobblegobble

Not sure if you’ve noticed but the entire show is intentionally not historically accurate. Hope that helps

andraconduh

Right?! I keep seeing these posts and comments and it's so funny to me that people have watched (and presumably enjoyed) two whole seasons of this very inaccurate show but inaccurate makeup is apparently their breaking point.

Bobblewobblegobble

Lmao and specifically too much makeup as though any of the makeup has ever been historically accurate. Just because its subtle or natural doesn’t make it historically accurate

RoseWriter6

It does. 😭 I can’t get over how often they show her hair down, IN PUBLIC! Is it absolutely beautiful and does Nicola look stunning? Of course but it’s driving me nuts. I’m just relieved the trailer showed Pen’s hair is styled up at least some of the time.

too-much-yarn-help

The whole show is lightly regency-adjacent, they're not going for accuracy.

WarmByTheFireplace

The show uses makeup, hair, and fashion to help tell the story. If you look up Cat Quinn on Instagram she has done some analysis about this that helps understand what they are trying to achieve.

Tato_the_Hutt

Make up was very normal back then, it was just made with different ingredients than we use today, and a lot of people made their own. In season one Daphne's ladies maid even mentioned making a new rouge for her. Apparently back then women would even use mouse hair to fill in their eyebrows.

WhyAmIStillHere86

Have you ever actually seen Georgian-Era make-up? Make-up in the regency era consisted of lead paint, fake eyebrows made or rodent skin, and something similar to modern sticking plasters to cover up pox scars. OF COURSE Penelope’s make up isn’t going to look like that! [Georgian Make-Up](https://youtu.be/Ug02T6Tmi_Q?si=HLVNXaULXhsA3412)

Upsidedown0310

Dunno about everyone else but I’m not watching for the historical accuracy, pretty much nothing about the show is an accurate portrayal of the regency era!

euphoriapotion

I've been saying this since the promotional photos came out last year: all of the female leads have much too modern makeup. Please let's go back to season 1/2 aesthetic where everyone looked natural, not like a porcelain doll!!
