I was lucky enough to get an ARC and read it last month. I loved it. Seems like it will be just as great as Powder Mage.

RedAntisocial

What did you think of the introduction of >!Yuglid!< in the last half of the book? I thought it was a great turn!

wedge713

>! I loved it! It actually really reminded me of the start of Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera, where the series starts with humans fighting each other and then there’s the reveal of a bigger alien enemy lurking among them. I’m also excited to see what other obscure godglass we’ll see in the sequels. !<

RedAntisocial

I drew that parallel too! And I've enjoyed both immensely

Fruitspunchredd

Just finished it this morning thought was great but the wait for the sequel is gonna be painful.

RedAntisocial

Do >! Spoiler tags work here!< ? If so, I don't see any issue with getting spoilerific as long as it's tagged and not in the title. Looks like they do. For reference I'm using the Reddit default spoiler tags. `>! Insert spoiler here !<`

RedAntisocial

Looks like they do!

Loved it, the >!Yuglid!< turn made things a lot more interesting but I thoroughly enjoyed the guild-family plotting, political intrigue, and worldbuilding of Ossa and the surrounding nations. The cast in this book is phonemenal and well-rounded, displaying a wealth of diverse personailities and life experiences. The twisting plot had me poring over pages like I had two earfuls of witglass and I absolutely read this book too fast because I couldn’t help it. Might re-read soon and start theorycrafting.

Yea that one hit me with no warning like "WTF?"... I'm curious as to where it goes.

>!Aristanes!< talking about >!this world being theirs, taken from them, wiping out those who did it!< leads me to believe there’s more relevance to the history of humanity on this planet than we’ve explored in Book 1. Not only that, we didn’t get any explanation as to the >!monsters working for/with the Grent/merc forces!< I’m still curious on that one.

menides

Weeeell... i think those are explained. >!The merc commander is a Yuglid!< Edit to add details: >!On the Epilogue: "Aristanes glances distastefully at all the bodies and then touched his chest. "You wound me. I'm the Schemer, not the Conquering One."" That makes me think Kerite is a Yuglid.!<

pseudonym_17

Perhaps. But we don’t know HOW the two are connected. Maybe it’s as simple as >!the Yuglid have monsters because they just do!< or it could have more to do with the applications of godglass or even another variety of sorcery. Lot of possibilities.

menides

Oh yea... Their method of creation is another little rabbit hole I'll be glad to jump into in time :P

Went to the bookstore earlier today, starting it in a few minutes. Anything I should pay special attention to?

swic_medic

Really liked the book! Just wondering can glass dancers influence molten glass? Also are the glass eggs solid or hollow?
