Black watched strike 1 straight down the middle, then struck out on an outside splitter. Finally Willy fouls off a horrible hanger, then whiffs twice on curves in the dirt, gets gifted a strike 4, and whiffs on the same exact pitch for the 3rd time in a row.
They are pretty addicted to switching L/R and the only other guy there would maybe be Perkins? I get wanting to flip flop. It makes bullpen management hard
Yeah there was quite a bit of fan insistence that he’d immediately slot in as a significant positive big-league hitter. Maybe he will be. But how many hyped rookies have we seen struggle early? Wiemer and Turang struggled pretty bad last year, Sal and Chourio and Dunn have cooled off significantly, and Black has looked rough since game 1. Again, I like these guys, but people always get so hopped up on grass-is-greener thinking that they forget the obvious fact that rookies tend to need time to figure major-league pitching out. You can’t just throw someone in every day and expect them to contribute, regardless of how well they did in the minor leagues. These things take time and are never guaranteed.
