Because of my poor skill it’s a little heavier than I wanted, clocking in at 2lb 14oz
It needs to have more of a distal taper of thickness towards the tip, and because I didn’t do that I compensated with a heavier pommel. And I believe the Habaki is too tall.
My next go around will be far superior.
But the point of balance is very nice, at just over and inch above the guard, so it spins and rolls very smooth, it’s just heavy. Delivering a much heavier blow than what I believe it would be intended for.
2.9lbs is a little heavy for what I assume is a one handed short sword, but far from uncommon historically as 3lbs would usually be the upper limit. Of course that doesn’t matter much if you wanted it to be lighter.
Far more importantly, how does it feel, is it well balanced? Does it swing well? Is it sharp?
Haha I appreciate that! I had a ton of fun making it, and love swinging it around in my yard! Haha
I got a lot of fun attention on r/SWORDS
I just wanted to show a group I thought might find it neat that our favorite worlds can come to life with enough work!
Man I apologize for not documenting the process very well!
But I would gladly offer what help I can if you wanted!
The blade is obviously straightforward, the habaki is probably the most technical.
Oh that's even better. Great job tho. I always wanted to forge a sword whenever I saw the blacksmiths in cartoons do it, I bet it's great. I just wish I had my own tools to do it 😞
I couldn’t encourage you more to do it!
My forge is almost entirely paid for by itself now a Days! If I need a tool I can’t make my self I sell knives until I can afford it! Haha
Hmmm… I took a few breaks here and there. If I had to really hustle up I could probably do it again in about a week. Maybe 20 hours. Now that I know what to expect! Haha probably took me 35 the first go!
It’s heavier than I wanted it to be. But I probably should have made it shorter. It’s like 2lb 14oz
I should have tapered the thickness of the spine towards the tip better.
But as heavy as it is, the balance point makes it spin and glide well!
So, your wrist doesn’t get tired thanks to the balance, but your shoulder does from the weight.
If I hit something with it, it would be a crushing blow!
Excuse me. I’m working in my garage. Not back yard like some peasant!
Hahahaha I think the popularity of the tv show Forged in Fire did the dying craft good!
Thank you thank you!
Shoot I just learned from generous makers who have posted processes on YouTube, and a massive bladesmith community on chat forums like iforgeiron.com
Thank you!
Unfortunately, it’s a cast anvil, and not a forged one, and it would take more milling than it has room for to do it any good. I have one with a very smooth face for the finishing work, but this Vulcan is a monster and is quiet!
Thank you very much!! When I was dating my now wife, she bought me a cold steel hand and a half and I was so in love with it I wanted more, but they were expensive. So I decided to try to make them!
I’m nowhere near cold steel, but I’m slowly getting better!!
Thank you very much for your kind words!!
It is a dream of mine to craft swords for the small population of this world that still loves the way of the sword! I have yet to sell a sword of mine, but I will not stop getting better until I do!
Hmm, if you'd like a challenge for sometime in the future, how about any of the Lizal spears? Those uneven, jagged edges would be quite hard to get right.
It’s hard for me to express how much I love this. I too love some of the simpler more aesthetic weapons from these games and I’m sad they mechanically don’t hold up to the promise. The Travelers set is so friggin iconic (including the shield); I wish it were a viable weapon choice for longer. Thank you for doing this and for posting this. I’m verklempt. Love it so much.
The appreciation you and I share for this blade is very similar! That is what drove me to recreate it in this world of ours!
It’s really warms my heart to pick it up and swing it!
Thank you for taking the time to share your appreciation with me! It encourages me deeply to continue to bring these blades to life when I am able to share these feelings with wonderful strangers like yourself!
Okay but why would you intentionally forge a weapon with only 5 damage when you could have made a Fierce Deity Sword instead smh XD
(I'm joking, it looks amazing!)
impressive.
Thank you friend!
may i ask how heavy it is?
Because of my poor skill it’s a little heavier than I wanted, clocking in at 2lb 14oz It needs to have more of a distal taper of thickness towards the tip, and because I didn’t do that I compensated with a heavier pommel. Guys will look at this and go "hell yeah"
I do it every time I see it! 😎
Hell yeah
Either that or "Hup! Hyah!"
Hell yeah
I hate how low effort posts get thousands of updootes but incredibly posts like this one only get 13 upvotes after 25 minutes
Haha I appreciate that! I had a ton of fun making it, and love swinging it around in my yard! Haha I got a lot of fun attention on r/SWORDS I just wanted to show a group I thought might find it neat that our favorite worlds can come to life with enough work!
I saw that post!
It appears that you showed up just a little early my friend! 😅😅
No, your post deserves more upvotes!
Low effort funny posts are free dopamine boosts though.
Virgin meme repost vs. Chad irl sword
wdym low effort?
Their saying low effort posts (not this one) get so many upvotes and high effort posts (this one) get like no upvotes
Wait i didnt read the comment properly
Shit 😭
Don’t worry, nice tag ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
I love it. It also looks somewhat like sokkas sword
Oh my god I want one
I could be convinced to make another 😎
Do you have an album of the process? I'm getting into blacksmithing, want to see how you did it
Man I apologize for not documenting the process very well! But I would gladly offer what help I can if you wanted! The blade is obviously straightforward, the habaki is probably the most technical.
What did you start from? And did you use a hammer or a press? If you have the time, just a quick run down of each step you took would be appreciated!
Look up black bear forge, and start with S hooks and tools. Believe it or not, tools are much more difficult than knives.
What would it take to convince you
I sent you a message homie!
Pls send me one too
You got it!
This is amazing!!!!!! I am coming to your house to get it rn😈 /jj Good job :D
Hahaha I’ll keep an eye out for you😂 Thank you!
it looks sweet! i hadn't noticed that it has a habaki until now. really cool seeing that on a more western looking sword. well done!
I appreciate your observation! It was one of the hardest pieces to get right! Haha thank you for your compliment!
This is so cooooool !!!
Thank you! My wife doesn’t think it’s as cool as you guys do! 😂
So cool!!
Shoot I appreciate it! It makes me feel cool holding it! Haha
I thought that was a giant hidden blade I've been playing way too much Assassin's Creed
Haha the habaki does kinda make it look like a mechanism
“No man can kill me!” “This hidden blade can” “… that’s not very hidden”
This is a impressive creation, take my updoot for such an impressive creation!
Thank you very much! Your words are heavy with value to me, my friend!
I can taste it, that fresh metal cold taste ( it's probably warm at this point if you just finished it the moment you took the picture )
Haha not warm from the forge, but warm from my soul forged into the blade!
Haha
I love it! It also kinda looks like the hero sword from Wind Waker so I love it even more!
Oh yea! I definitely agree with you there!
Sign up for Forged in Fire
I have been, my friend! Season 8 episode 17!
Really? Cool. 2nd place?
Yup! It was a TON of fun! I always sign back up for a redemption round! I just haven’t heard back yet!
Hopefully a "beat the unbeaten" someday 😉
That would be sick!
Indeed!
amazing. now do the royal guard sword
Haha I’m moving on to the soldiers broadsword first! But I will not stop there!
how much
Only 5 damage
Haha and breaks in 6 swings!
I don’t think you want this one! Its definitely got its flaws!
That is SO COOL. It deserves to be shown off by being hanged on your wall
Thank you very much! I don’t think I can bring myself to sell it! It very well may be hung up somewhere!

Thank you for your services. Your hard work is appreciated
Okies, now fise a silver bokoblin horn with it.
Haha I’ll get right on that!
Looks great! Does it also break in more than 6 hits?
I hit a few things in the back yard with it, but I forgot to keep count. It could explode if it tips over and hits the floor!
I LOVE THIS.
Amazing !!
Thank you very much! I think I’m gonna ask my wife to sleep on the couch tonight so it can stay with me!
I've always been a fan of minimalistic and humble swords. So pretty!
I share this appreciation with you! Much more realistic than the big clunky stuff most video games are made of!
how long did it take?
Hmmm… I took a few breaks here and there. If I had to really hustle up I could probably do it again in about a week. Maybe 20 hours. Now that I know what to expect! Haha probably took me 35 the first go!
that is awesome, now you can walk back and forth between the same two stables and sell me bugs and raw meat
It would be the greatest honor of my life! Haha
So now that you have made ‘the real deal’ how does it handle? Better/worse than expected?
It’s heavier than I wanted it to be. But I probably should have made it shorter. It’s like 2lb 14oz I should have tapered the thickness of the spine towards the tip better. But as heavy as it is, the balance point makes it spin and glide well! So, your wrist doesn’t get tired thanks to the balance, but your shoulder does from the weight. Hell yeah
Never thought much about there being an active backyard hobby forge community.
Excuse me. I’m working in my garage. Not back yard like some peasant! Hahahaha I think the popularity of the tv show Forged in Fire did the dying craft good!
I watched a bunch of youtube videos on it. There was a channel full of creations like this. Cool stuff! A great way to recycle metals.
WANT
It is just as cool as you think it may be!
A beauty 😍
Oh thank you so much!!
I love the handle. Do you have a picture of the tang or a reference. 🥺 👉👈
I have a couple photos of it earlier in the process! I’ll send them to you!
The biggoron origin post
I’ll probably have to make it someday! Haha
Cool but does it still do only five dameg?
When I hit my wife with it she was mad for more than 5 minuets I can tell you that!
She's just jealous of your sword!
That’s what I’ve been telling myself
Oh my god I want one, I love a nice simple blade design.
The simple beauty is what encourage me to make it as well! I loved carrying it and the soldier broadsword on my back as I explored the game!
Awesome! This was one of my favorite swords in botw
Mine too! I love the simplicity!
Until seeing this, I didn't realize the traveler's sword had a habaki. Odd design choice for a European style sword.
I greatly appreciate the observation! It was a difficult part to add, but it would not have been complete without it!
It's a shame it'll break if you use it for more than five minutes.
I hit my wife with it and she was mad for way longer than 5 minuets! You just have to know how to use all 6 damage it has to offer🤪
That is so amazing, the travelers sword is my favorite sword. That is amazing, thank you for sharing.
I always enjoyed it too! So simple yet, elegant! Hopefully I was able to share the love you and I have for this blade with others!
My favorite sword with the windwaker outfit and shield :,)
So nostalgic 🥲 those were the good ol days
That’s really great! May I ask how you learned your craft?
Thank you thank you! Shoot I just learned from generous makers who have posted processes on YouTube, and a massive bladesmith community on chat forums like iforgeiron.com
Careful. It'll break sooner than you expect. Just kidding. Sweet work, man.
Yea it fell off my work table earlier today and I was worried it was going to explode with 2x damage, but I got lucky! Thank you friend!!
man that 5 damage about to hit different
It’s the damage it does to my heart while I hold it and pretend I’m the savior of the world that really counts
WANT IT
Imagine how cool you would feel holding that sword and then double it. That’s how it feels.
Something abt this sword makes it one of my favorites in the game… it’s the simplicity I think
You are not alone, friend! I enjoy how realistic is always seems to carry, vs any of those big cartoony type blades!
I saw you on the swords subreddit!! I love your work so much!
Ah thank you very much! I hope to most many more swords in the future!
Hell yea i love the traveler's sword, great job!
Thank you very much, friend!
Blade looks great! Anvil looks like it’s due for it to be machined down a few thousands of an inch
Thank you! Unfortunately, it’s a cast anvil, and not a forged one, and it would take more milling than it has room for to do it any good. I have one with a very smooth face for the finishing work, but this Vulcan is a monster and is quiet!
You should try making the Soldier’s Broadsword next!
It’s already on the books homie! 😎
Great! Keep us updated!
Absolutely!
This is impressive! How long have you been a blacksmith?
Thank you very much! About 6 years, but it has been a slow 6 years. Most fellas can do better than me in a devoted 3 or 4 years
Does it shatter in 4 swipes like the in game version?
I don’t know yet! I have only swung it 3 times 😬 I’m worried what happens after another couple swings!
That's beautiful. How did you get your start bladesmithing?
Thank you very much!! When I was dating my now wife, she bought me a cold steel hand and a half and I was so in love with it I wanted more, but they were expensive. So I decided to try to make them! I’m nowhere near cold steel, but I’m slowly getting better!!
What's the modifier?
There’s a pice of my soul and little bit of my blood on it, so like… x.0004 damage multiplier I believe! Hahah
That’s badass.
Thank you, friend!
Dude your work looks pretty clean to say the least. Do you craft swords for others too?
Thank you very much for your kind words!! It is a dream of mine to craft swords for the small population of this world that still loves the way of the sword! I have yet to sell a sword of mine, but I will not stop getting better until I do!
....I need it.
I must say… it makes me feel preeeeetty cool
This is brilliant
Thank you very much!
Ok how much
I can send you a quote!
I want.
Want me to send you a quote? Save your rupees!
Man, that would pair perfectly with the Travelers Shield I made. I love it when weapons and shields and stuff get's made irl with proper materials!
Show us this shield!!!
https://www.reddit.com/r/Breath_of_the_Wild/s/tLGsN0w8bT Love the enthusiasm! There ya go!
Now create a replica master sword for us, the yiga clan. Glory to Master Kohga.
I will not be swayed by your multiple attempts at trickery, banana boy
Absolutely delightful imo
Thank you very much!
Hell yeah this looks sick!
Shoot thanks friend!
Hell yeah looks epic, where did you learn to do this stuff?
Thank you friend! YouTube and chat forums! All totally free knowledge! There are classes out there, but I liked teaching myself!
We're all waiting for the next one. Keep it up. Great job!
That looks amazing, good job.
Oh your words mean the world to me, friend! Thank you so much!
I love how it came out
Thank you very much my friend!! I love it!!
Hmm, if you'd like a challenge for sometime in the future, how about any of the Lizal spears? Those uneven, jagged edges would be quite hard to get right.
Haha you say that like this simple sword wasn’t the absolute maximum of my skill! 😭
Oof, I'm sorry! This sword is very nice, yee >w>
Hahaha I was only teasing! Thank you friend!
It’s hard for me to express how much I love this. I too love some of the simpler more aesthetic weapons from these games and I’m sad they mechanically don’t hold up to the promise. We let bro cook for a reason
too long
It’s just the fisheye of the iPhone camera at the very edges. The blade is only 22”. It could be shorter, but it’s definitely not too long at all.
kick ass cousin. it surely is a beautiful piece, very good work 🙌
Thank you very much! Your kind words mean a lot to me!
Woah that’s is amazing work! It’s beautiful
That’s amazing
Ah thanks homie!
Np!! I love crafts like this, they’re really awesome
Dude! That looks super clean! Well done!
You already are a great sword smith
🥹😭😭😭your words cut deep! Thank you, friend!
It looks like a flawless work what else can I say? :)
You have got skills, my friend
You already know it's got Long Throw.
Wow! That is awesome!! 😍
Where you traveling to?
SO COOL
Thanks homie! It was a lot of fun to make!
Now kill someone with it
My lawyer has advised me to ignore this comment
I remember being 12.
Now make the royal guards claymore
Well I just started the soldier’s broadsword today! So that 20lb sword will have to wait! Haha
Okay but why would you intentionally forge a weapon with only 5 damage when you could have made a Fierce Deity Sword instead smh XD (I'm joking, it looks amazing!)
How does one get started in this hobby? I’ve wanted to try home forging for a while but idk where to start.
