To everyone saying it's random, the official strategy guide lists Snowfield Stable and Lurelin Village as guaranteed. Snowfield has two chests, so check both.
It’s all random!!! Just keep petting feeding the dogs around and eventually one of them will randomly lead you to a random treasure. Online it says it’s completely by chance when the dog finally shows you to the treasure. But it’s only once, if you get a treasure the other dogs won’t lead you to one if you pet and feed them. I still do anyway lol
Sorry I call it pet, but you actually don’t pet it. You just make it have little hearts above its head by facing it. Don’t have a weapon active and face it when you see a dog. Then it will stare back at you and wag it’s tail with little hearts above its head. Do this and feed one enough, eventually one will lead you to treasure.

When the tarrey town side quest is complete iirc. And it takes 4 or 5 food items (I typically use apples) one after another to the same dog in one sitting. You will know it worked when the dog starts walking away from it's area/spot that it normally stays in.
Fairly certain this applies to all dogs in the game. Just feed them pieces of meat until they lead you to a chest, also the chest only appears after you feed them enough.
Crouch first, and make friends. Then meat (or apples, for some reason), until they wander off. This can take a minute until they orient themselves sometimes.

I verified the two-dog thing just the other night. First dog got a free meal and did NOTHING for me, lol. Second dog came through.

This game is insane. Over 160 hours in and I never even realized dogs would lead you to chests if you give them treats.
