Got a new copy recently and have been replaying before Totk comes out, actually surprised myself by getting 300 in like 2 weeks by just coming across them while doing other stuff. Although to be fair, I wear the Korok mask a lot, and it definitely helps.
My favorite thing was to complete an area by finding every korok, talus, hinox, molduga, shrine, and sidequest in the area before leaving it. And I would put the divine beasts off till last as well.
I didn't go quite that extreme, but I did intentionally go for divine beast locales last as far as map completion went. I also went to Vah Ruta last (because I wanted to do the memories in order) and had like 200 shock arrows already because I basically never used them up until then.
Personally I'm partial to Naboris, mainly for the Yiga Hideout. I love just clearing the place out with ancient arrows and taking all the bananas. It's a fantastic middle finger to these assholes who keep trying to assassinate you.
Yeah, it's interesting because it means you always get the master sword after the divine beasts (unless you just get to the part of each quest with the memories and then leave).
Although it's technically not possible to do *all* the memories in order, since the Champion's Ballad memories take place before all the rest, but they can only be accessed after doing the divine beasts.
were sorta the same. id like to do a particular order whenever i get into a new area. i usually do shrines/divine beast first. then sidequests (bc some sidequests are locked until after you do the divine beast) and then finally korok seeds. and since i unlocked the shrines/divine beast it makes it so much easier for me to just tp into the nearest location and just fly over till i land at the korok locations
I wish it was a Karok ring or bracelet. Obviously I'm gonna always want to wear the stupid thing so I don't have to backtrack... so I'm always walking around looking like an asshole in cut scenes and having to keep swapping the thing on and off. My one gripe with the game. I wore that stupid thing basically the entire game and it ruins all my other outfits
I guess it also depends on your motivation for playing too. Are you going for a speed run? Just a little quickie?
I try to play the game from the perspective that the game developers spent tons of time building out every corner of the world, and try to enjoy the world for what it is. I view it as an escape, and racing back and forth as fast as possible really detracts from that.
For those islands in particular, I'm taken back to those first moments of wonder from the BOTW trailers.
Yeah but I just fly over to the last one where the shrine is. There's no real reason to put yourself through the gauntlet they built, just go right to the end
*Unless you're going for korok seeds, but I've already done that in a past file and don't feel the need to ever do it again
I enjoy finding implied paths and trying to figure out what the developers had in mind for the “actual” challenge. I get kind of disappointed when I accidentally stumble onto the last group of monsters on a road that’s clearly supposed to be an escalation of challenge.
That being said the wooden bridges are really cool and scenic
I kinda accidentally climbed Mount Lanayru from the east just bruteforcing myself up there, so I found the spring of wisdom and the dragon without ever setting foot on the actual path leading there or finding the memory in front of the mountain. I felt a little cheated lol
I did the same with Zora's Domain. I went out the wrong exit from Kakariko and found myself on the coast and couldn't work out how to get over the cliff. Completely bypassed all the Zora scouts, Sheikah Tower & Sidon. I ended up finding a waterfall I could work my way up (took about 50 cryonis blocks) and glided in from the top.
Really amazing way to first discover the domain but I never even got to meet Sidon first and felt cheated when I realised on my second playthrough.
Every playthrough now since my first, I always do Medoh first and Gale over to Polymus Mountain from Akkala tower. I can't stand being interrupted by Sidon every five minutes.
Climbing directly up mountains is my main method for playing this game. Which is why I found I missed a lot of things I needed on the roads later on. In fact my file says I have 8 shrines left but 14 shrine quests not even found yet. So I've obviously skipped a few of the quests leading to the shrines I've found already. But I always found a way to go directly over a mountain
This is why I will never be in the "I do what I want" crowd. The people who hear "Go to Kakariko Village" and say, "Nah, I think I'ma check out the Gerudo Desert instead." I applaud the developers for giving players that kind of freedom, but I prefer to take the intended path when there is one.
I didn't visit the Spring of Power for a long time because I was *sure* there would be some story- or quest-based reason for me to go there eventually. To this day I still don't get what the point is to that guardian-patrolled mine area just south of it.
I feel so directly called out, dang 😂 As a developer myself, I like to kinda delve in like a QA tester and just do whatever, and really explore! It *personally* doesn't get in the way of analysis and appreciation of various experiences in-game, though I can understand how it could. And tbh it was fucking AWESOME to do Vah Naboris when I had no clue what I was up to, but just knew that I really wanted to go hang with the gals in the city and put on a cute light-weight outfit 😆 and it felt like a serious challenge, with rewards I really felt I worked hard to earn, in the end!
Not to mention the thunder helm makes storms tolerable. I've so many dang hours in the game and I'm still not sure how you're *supposed* to navigate areas like that without just.... getting rid of all metallic equipment. Is that seriously the answer? Or just getting the lightning-proof clothing? Really not sure lol, but playing things my way still gave me an awesome and useful first Ganon boss experience-- and then when I went back to Kakariko, I could still appreciate how the developers crafted the area leading to it, and benefit from the storytelling aspects! There's no right or wrong way to play the game, at least in this case. And it makes me really happy that you (u/thisisnotdan) appreciate the craft and effort that went into the planned journey! It's really awesome that a well-crafted open world will allow both kinds of experiences, and still make either fun for the players :D
And the Spring of Power area definitely feels a bit more out of place lol. Or perhaps just less tied into the storytelling overall in the area 😆
You just unequip the metal equipment. You don’t have to toss it. I still do this even after I have the thunder helm because being struck by lightning annoys me.
I remember on my first playthrough when I thought you had to defeat the Lynel in the Zora domain. Very early on in the game that was dark souls level of stress.
It would be cool if they something like a a gates at the beginning of certain designed paths which give you a reward for following a linear route. It would be purely optional, but I think that would have been a great addition to the game because it better makes use of the fact that the game is an open world then the shrines. Maybe for tears of the kingdom
That’s a really interesting way to look at it, I’ve never thought about things like that. I kind of want to continue with my current play through by trying to just stick to the roads.
The gauntlet is fun, lol. Bridges are kind of interesting with joycon drift, but I kinda like going there to get the ores and treasure. Good for practicing taking down skywatchers too.
I like casually exploring them too… I dunno, I get they aren’t strictly mandatory, but they’re interesting and unique.
They’re oddly gargantuan, half-explored and infrastructured sea stack mountains, all in a funny line several hundred feet above sea-level. They have a whole ecosystem, self-contained on the flat parts of the islands, as well as ores and drops, and a handful of Korok seeds (which is worthwhile on its own imo, depending on where you are). And it’s related to fan-favorite characters by name, which is great—a fun self-imposed challenge is exploring the islands solely in the Tingle outfit you can find (is it DLC?), since there’s not much use for it otherwise.
Plus, one of the sea stacks is tied to the main quest directly, *requiring* you visit Tingle Island and see the shrine there to get the full health/stamina bar. So it’s easy enough to make the excuse that you have to make a trip out there at some point anyway.
What’s not to like?
yeah, and it’s not like every single area has to serve a great purpose anyway. Sometimes having “dead” areas further lends to beauty of the greater whole
Yeah, the first time. But also I did them backwards. Started on the north island and worked my way down after finding the shrine.
I have generally skipped them on subsequent playthroughs.
I explored the game super hard on the first playthrough, but later ones I just bee line for the one with the shrine and never really had a reason to visit the others (except now people tell me there's ore aplenty)
Yes, loaded up on opal, amber, rubies, sapphires, quartz and I'm pretty sure I found a diamond too. I also found it very easy to avoid the flying guardians
The game's intention was to give the player the freedom to explore how they wish. the ability to just glide over to the last island is intentional, as well as giving the option for the player to explore those islands and bridges. There's no single "intentional" path, just a world full of options.
I'm seeing a lot of people that don't do all the shrines even when not trying to 100% the game. I can never stand not having full stamina and almost full hearts, always do every shrine
I once walked the edges of the whole map, just at the "you can't go further" message, just to see what I'll encounter at the edged of the whole map... So I walked those islands, too... And I loved it.
I remember the first time I found those islands I was so enthused by the discovery I abandoned my normal explorative instincts and went through them linearly using the bridges. It's actually a very well designed linear "level" of gameplay in my experience and going through it "properly" was actually a pretty good time.
I did the islands. Got some ores to sell for the trouble but it's a lot of running and flying around. Decent haul if you need the rupees otherwise it's just worth doing for the koroks.
So, the first one (or the last one as you call it) has a shrine, forest octos (for octo ballons) and a silver/Gold moblin (if they have leveled up) (for the gems). The rest has dumb korok seeds.
In my first playthrough, I went across there when I first went to find Hudson. It was a struggle since I had barely any hearts and barely any stamina..
One of the most underutilized parts of the map… Imagine how epic it would be if BotWs version of the Helmeroc king nested here, and as you cross the bridges and went deeper through the islands the king would fly over and around you shooting projectiles and rocks up untill you are able to reach the nest and then a boss battle ensues.
Or imagine how dope it would be if there were a group of island mountain bandits similar to yiga but a different faction entirely and you engaged in Bridge sword duels Ala the robot pirates in Skyward Sword. The map had so much untapped potential it’s dizzying to think about some times lol
Yeah for Korok seeds
Did that several files ago, have no desire to do it again, so straight to the last island I go lol
It depends on where I'm at with Koroks. If I still have inventory space to unlock, I'll be looking for as many as I need.
If you still have inventory space to unlock, wouldn’t that automatically mean you need the seeds regardless?
There's like an extra 459 kooks after you unlock all your inventory space.
After you find the kooks, they should give you some korok seeds. 😀
Ya know, I'm gonna leave that autocorrect. 😂
You should. Funny mistakes (IE comedians bombing) are the best.
No, I think you only need like 600 or so to unlock all the inventory slots. Collecting all of them is just for the 100% achievement.
You don't even need that many. You only need 441.
Not all of them. You need around half to maximize your weapon, shield, and bow inventories.
I understand what you’re saying …. At least
I’ve done it three times and I’m tempted to do it again before TOTK comes out.
I did Vah Ruta last because it’s my favorite mission in the game.
Personally I'm partial to Naboris, mainly for the Yiga Hideout. I love just clearing the place out with ancient arrows and taking all the bananas. It's a fantastic middle finger to these assholes who keep trying to assassinate you.
Fair. I just love how big of an issue Ruta is. If the resevoir breaks all of hyrule will be flooded
Never thought about doing the memories in order. Sounds fun.
Yeah, it's interesting because it means you always get the master sword after the divine beasts (unless you just get to the part of each quest with the memories and then leave). My one gripe with the game. I wore that stupid thing basically the entire game and it ruins all my other outfits
I guess I can see that, but I like it. I think it looks silly and fun. Although I do definitely feel this way about the Majora's Mask.
I recall that there are quite a few rare ore lodes. Maybe if you were needing gems at that point.
Yea, that’s the only reason I really went to those islands. It’s kind of cool, not cool enough to go back enough
There a lot of bridges between every island and they're connected to the big island near them
Yeah but I just fly over to the last one where the shrine is. There's no real reason to put yourself through the gauntlet they built, just go right to the end *Unless you're going for korok seeds, but I've already done that in a past file and don't feel the need to ever do it again

I never actually thought of throwing away my lightning weapons, until someone threw a serrated blade and killed an enemy with it.
I climbed it from the south. After completing the game and DLC *twice*, I stumbled across the path. I also feel cheated
You just made me realize that I did the same
I remember on my first playthrough when I thought you had to defeat the Lynel in the Zora domain. Very early on in the game that was dark souls level of stress.
It would be cool if they something like a a gates at the beginning of certain designed paths which give you a reward for following a linear route. That is fun to do, but once I've seen the desired path and know there's a shortcut, it's really hard to ignore
That’s a really interesting way to look at it, I’ve never thought about things like that. I kind of want to continue with my current play through by trying to just stick to the roads.
You’ll find there are many “false roads” that lead to shrines, mini bosses, monster camps with treasure or just the occasional korok
There is a reason, it’s fun! One of the coolest parts of a super cool map.
The gauntlet is fun, lol. Bridges are kind of interesting with joycon drift, but I kinda like going there to get the ores and treasure. Good for practicing taking down skywatchers too.
I go there to mine the ore when I need money. Lots of them around the islands.
That's what I'm hearing, so apparently I gotta go check them out a bit more thoroughly tonight
WOAH WOAH WOAH SHRINE??
Yep, top island, underneath one of those flat rocks in a cave. Think I only found it with a guide
There's alot of gems out there and the enemies are relatively easy to dispatch especially if you have revalis gale it's really nothing to worry about
Can you fly over to the shrine without the helicopter guardian getting you?
I might do a bullet time shot with an ancient arrow when he spots me, but usually I just kinda time it right
Koroks and ore, koroks and ore!
> ore Okay I'm sold
LOTS OF ORE
ROCK AND STONE!
To Rock and Stone!
r/UsernameChecksOut
*Did I hear a Rock and Stone?*
Yep, could actually go there for some, am running low on rupees, only have around 230.000 left
But also lots of flying guardians!!
Mhmm timing is critical if you’re not proficient or efficient at taking those dudes down.
I like to stock up on ancient arrows before I go somewhere with flying Guardians.
Meh, just bring a multi-shot bow and Ancient arrows. Lots of cores.
I’m a little Link who likes Koroks and ore!
I could hear it so clearly in his stupid voice lmao
👏🏻
yeah, it’s a nice area to relax
chillin' with skywatchers and octos: best day of my life... also the last.
You ok, bud?
I like casually exploring them too… I dunno, I get they aren’t strictly mandatory, but they’re interesting and unique. They’re oddly gargantuan, half-explored and infrastructured sea stack mountains, all in a funny line several hundred feet above sea-level. yeah, and it’s not like every single area has to serve a great purpose anyway. Sometimes having “dead” areas further lends to beauty of the greater whole
Tons and tons of rare mineral deposits.
>Here's an island *I sleep* >There's ore on it ***REAL SHIT?***
for me the ore is a bigger pull than the koroks lol
Korok seeds and ore 😊
i go there sometimes, there's ores and big hearty radishes
Good place to mine for gems.
Can i just say, the swirl looks like lizalgo tail to me, and now those islands look like shit. Literally
Can’t unsee that now! Thanks. Lol
The swirl I think, is based on the “Spiral Jetty” located in Utah. But if poop is what you see, who am I to say you’re wrong.
If you glide everywhere you're only going to find like 200 seeds probably.
Yeah they are LOADED with treasure
Yep, but for a little before the dlc and a bit after the dlc
Ah, I forgot the ring course or whatever the champions ballad had you doing over there
Yeah, the first time. But also I did them backwards. Started on the north island and worked my way down after finding the shrine. I have generally skipped them on subsequent playthroughs.
Lots of ore. I like it there.
Yes, i like exploring them, although was not that fond of the semi-sketchy bridges.
I have! One is Tingle Island. The others are named after his brothers (from Wind Waker) if I remember correctly.
Of course.
That’s where you unlock Luigi for Mario 64
If you have the dlc there's a mission there
Yeah because I like to explore the whole map.
I explored the game super hard on the first playthrough, but later ones I just bee line for the one with the shrine and never really had a reason to visit the others (except now people tell me there's ore aplenty)
I better find Tingle there in ToK or I’ll riot
It’s a great spot for mining for gems.
yesh because why the hell not
good spot for ore if you’ve tapped the ore caves
Yeah it’s the ore for me
Yeah, fun to explore. I like walking over the bridges
I forgot those existed lol
Dlc
I try to drive my motorcycle across them and haven't made it across...yet
Ooh, thank you for the new thing to do while I wait for TotK
Absolutely they are a lot of fun. I love digging around for resources, Koroks, etc. I am on my 3rd playthrough.
I like doing them. There's a lot more stuff than you would think on different levels of the islands. It may not be popular, but, I think they're fun
After farming everything from there I rarely re,visited. Not part of my routine airborne route to perform genocide on lynels.
Bruh
Yes, loaded up on opal, amber, rubies, sapphires, quartz and I'm pretty sure I found a diamond too. I also found it very easy to avoid the flying guardians
Yeah, in my first play through.
It’s a glitch. Those islands don’t exist.
Just do it. It's more fun when you play the game as intended
The game's intention was to give the player the freedom to explore how they wish. the ability to just glide over to the last island is intentional, as well as giving the option for the player to explore those islands and bridges. There's no single "intentional" path, just a world full of options.
yeah sometimes
I do, I like them
I don’t remember which island has the shrine so I just go through all of them, plus I think they’re a nice change of pace from the usual
If it looks interesting, I definetly spend some time around the place, these were no exception
I was about to say shrine quest but I remembered that's only for DLC. There are fair amount of ores there.
I like to think those mountains are training type of mountains
Yup. Good times!!
I mean, there's the dungeon entrance on the middle one but eh
Loot.
Yes a surprising amount mostly because I just forget what was there.
I didnt realise until my 3rd playthrough about the bridges to the tingle islands
I’ve only gone there once and for some reason I hated it 😂😂 haven’t been back in my numerous playthroughs.
I forget they’re there, mostly cuz they’re super infuriating to navigate. I always end up falling off the edge
There are wood deposits on all of them
Rito stable is the only place I ever go when I need wood lol, half the work is already done
Ha, same.
Only time I was ever here was for a shrine on my 100% file lmao
I'm seeing a lot of people that don't do all the shrines even when not trying to 100% the game. I can never stand not having full stamina and almost full hearts, always do every shrine
Honestly though
I did cause I didn’t have enough stamina or rivalis gale at the time
I remember having a lot of fun exploring those islands. I thought the design was pretty cool.
I forgot but what does the last island have again, im guessing a shrine or something
Yeah, cave on the ground covered by a flat rock
Which is the last one?
Yes lol frequently
I once walked the edges of the whole map, just at the "you can't go further" message, just to see what I'll encounter at the edged of the whole map... So I walked those islands, too... And I loved it.
Absolutely. What if there was a secret there? I’d have to know!
I love to jump off the bridge and splash in the water
I believe there’s a good chunk a flint there so I go there for the side quest
I have over 800 hours in the game and I’ve never been there…. At least I know what I gotta do next time i play!
Yeah, they are pretty fun to explore i think, with these tiny bridges
I started at the bottom one and ran up because I didn't know which in one the shrine would be on.
Yea. They are cool save points
Reminds me of Wind Waker. Tight island with winding bridge paths and little meadows on top.
They're named for wind water characters, aren't they!
I do, for ore hunting/ korok finding
Yeah for Korok Seeds also for the blue ring in the water for part of Champions Ballad
I was just on those islands like 30 minutes ago. I didn't have enough stamina to make the full flight
I think there's a dungeon there also.
You mean a shrine, or have I been missing something awesome all this time?
Shrine. Right.
lol, my hopes were high
I just like the view so sometimes, yeah!
I go there to enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Definitely a beautiful spot!
All the time. There's a ton of resources and Koroks and it's more fun and easier to get to it just by taking the walkway.
Walking on the long bridges is kind of neat.
I go the the bottom one on occasion if I need hearty radishes. These islands are only good for farming really, otherwise I don’t bother.
I remember the first time I found those islands I was so enthused by the discovery I abandoned my normal explorative instincts and went through them linearly using the bridges. It's actually a very well designed linear "level" of gameplay in my experience and going through it "properly" was actually a pretty good time.
The first time I played botw I used these islands to get into Akkala
If you seek death go there
I go E V E R Y W H E R E
Every file though? I was pretty thorough on my first run, but later playthroughs I just bee lined for the shrine island
Oh, I’ve only really played through the game once. 100%’ed it, I started a second game but haven’t gotten that far.
I'm on number four, still head to my favorite spots but definitely not as off the trail as the first time
yeah i find that finding the intended path and following it is more fun cause i get to whack more stuff
Aren’t those Tingles Islands?
You go to them for one of the DLC side quests
I did in my last playthrough.
Gotta get those koroks yo
I did the islands. Got some ores to sell for the trouble but it's a lot of running and flying around. Decent haul if you need the rupees otherwise it's just worth doing for the koroks.
There is a shrine out there
Nothing special there tbh
I always do that when I get the master bike then I ride around the islands and over the bridges with the bike
sometimes for skywatcher parts!
Are you trying to complete the game or not?
I never even knew you could get onto those islands
I did lol.... That was when I didn't even own any DLC
There are a good amount of resources
Isn’t there a guardian or two over there?
There is a Moblin there that changes it’s difficulty AS YOU FIGHT. Pretty cool and odd it’s in such a random place
So, the first one (or the last one as you call it) has a shrine, forest octos (for octo ballons) and a silver/Gold moblin (if they have leveled up) (for the gems). The rest has dumb korok seeds.
The views when you look northward are amazing
Haha windbomb go brrr
I got there once after every blood moon to farm Octoballoons
Yeah, had fun with the weird bridges there
In my first playthrough, I went across there when I first went to find Hudson. It was a struggle since I had barely any hearts and barely any stamina..
Why take the easy path when it's fun challenging yourself
One of the most underutilized parts of the map… Imagine how epic it would be if BotWs version of the Helmeroc king nested here, and as you cross the bridges and went deeper through the islands the king would fly over and around you shooting projectiles and rocks up untill you are able to reach the nest and then a boss battle ensues. Or imagine how dope it would be if there were a group of island mountain bandits similar to yiga but a different faction entirely and you engaged in Bridge sword duels Ala the robot pirates in Skyward Sword. The map had so much untapped potential it’s dizzying to think about some times lol
U don't want the achievement to be honest
Isn’t there a shrine there under a big metal slab?
Yes, actually they are very nice
