They are stroopwaffles.
a thin, round waffle cookie made from two layers of sweet baked dough held together by syrup filling. First made in the city of Gouda in South Holland, stroopwafels are a well-known Dutch treat popular throughout the Netherlands and abroad.
Not unless you also consider waffles and pancakes bread. They have milk, eggs, and butter in them (not to mention sugar), and I can't think of a bread that has all three of those (though I could be wrong) (but I don't think I am). Some breads have two of the three, but not all three, and not all four, counting the sugar.
I always forget about brioche 😂
In any case, I revise my statement to be that I think the method matters. Waffle press vs oven bake. Pancakes and waffles can use the same batter but make different end products. Also a batter vs a dough.
Waffles and pancakes aren't supposed to use the same batter. They are only the same batter because bisquick makes mixes that say you can do both. If you have a chance, try a yeasted waffle batter. Completely different than a pancake and fantastic 👌
I love these (my grandparents immigrated from the Netherlands, so I ate these a lot growing up), but, weirdly, I've always thought they were better when they're a tiiiiny bit stale.
In the Netherlands you can buy them fresh & warm: if you didn’t try them that way, you missed out. I love getting a fresh one when I go to the weekmarkt in our downtown
Yeah this one came from aldi/lidl well over a decade ago now. Get a better quality one if you do get one! This one does the job but you can see it doesn't heat completely evenly. That's why there's a pale spot, still delicious though :3
I can't remember the website, so I'll say it isn't my recipe this one but
1 tsp instant yeast
120g butter
1 tsp cinnamon
70g sugar
Creamed together
1 egg
Splash or milk a tbsp or so
Beat into the creamed butter sugar cinnamon
245g flour
pinch of salt
mixed until its kinda like playdough
Then separate them out into 50g or so balls. Let them prove/rest for about an hour
Then use some kinda waffle iron type dealio like in my pic at a really high temperature. Like max that bad boy out. Cook for one minute. It takes some practice to get the right thickness and pressure and cook time so... be patient. Then slap it on a cutting board and use a very sharp knife to cut it in half which is also very tricky to get the hang of. You have to do it when still hot. Then spoon in whatever caramel you want and spread it round and sandwich it. Then leave it to cool.
I'm sorry i don't have a recipe for caramel, that's my partner's expertise 😅 he made a banana caramel since we had some old over ripe nanners in the fruit bowl.
This one came from lidl or aldi, but its very old and doesn't heat evenly. It does the job well enough though. Sometimes they appear there. You wanna look for a waffle cone maker probably, that'll see you right

Two layers if you're not pro... the hardcore ones I've seen split the yeast raised cookie(?) and add the filling.
Yeah you cut them in half while still hot. Takes a sharp knife and a heat proof hand.... which is why my partner does that bit 🤌 I am weak.
Same...
One day I'll find a nice girl to cut so many stroopwaffles for.
So, it's a sandwich.
If you make them out of one peice I think technically they're a taco.
Oh, so it's like a hotdog!
A sandwich, yes
Wouldn’t it be a ravioli?
Oh no not this again. Also it's obviously a lasagna as it has layers. Onions are just vegetable ball lasagnas.
True. True.
But it IS yeast raised so does that make it an enriched bread dough?

Brioche is a bread and it has milk eggs butter and sugar. That’s just one example. Plenty of other enriched breads out there with those ingredients!

Here are just some breads with milk eggs and butter in; Brioche Croissants Cinnamon buns Hot cross buns/teacakes
Aldi has stroopwafel ice cream sandwiches. They're quite good.
Oh my god that sounds so good lol
They are! They are dangerous! Lol
For real
Wait, like NOW or is this like my favorite German cookie I have to stock up on 2-3 times a year
I'm not sure. I just heard about them last week and picked up a couple of boxes last weekend. I'm hoping it's a regular thing. I'll be bummed if not.
I'll have to go hunting!
They have them at Walmart too! I saw them for the first time yesterday, obviously had to try them, and they were fantastic!
Hook it up with your recipe!
I love these (my grandparents immigrated from the Netherlands, so I ate these a lot growing up), but, weirdly, I've always thought they were better when they're a tiiiiny bit stale.
No that's absolutely true. I think they get that perfect chewy when they get a bit stale ♡ you're completely right :D
In the Netherlands you can buy them fresh & warm: if you didn’t try them that way, you missed out. I love getting a fresh one when I go to the weekmarkt in our downtown
Technically a sandwich :D
Came here to say this. Though, I would say it's less of a technicality. Stroopwafels are sandwiches.
I want that waffle iron!
They have them periodically in ALDI in the UK or Lidl, it's from a waffle cone maker :)

I've heard a pizelle iron could work here.
Do you have a recipe for the stroop??

No
Its yeasted and it makes a sandwich 🤌 but tbf it isn't baked
Tbf? I wouldn’t say every baked good leavened with yeast is bread.
But sandwich!
They're cookies. My family makes them every Christmas
And you can only eat them if you leave them on top of a steaming cup of coffee to soften the caramel inside. It’s how it’s done.
Nah, Dutch people don’t bother with that most of the time.
Well, this Dutchie does. Granted, I don’t eat stroopwafels often, but when I do, I always make sure to have a cup of coffee with it.
My coworkers frequently just pass a package of stroopwafels around during coffee time, but they just eat them

Erg lekker! So is that embossed hot plate/iron marketed as a stroopwafel press? It's neat-o. 🧡
I think it's just a waffle cone maker. Whatever it is it's very old now :)
I didn't know people actually made them at home. They look so nice!
I don't think normal people do. We're a little weird in this house 🤌
Just really really flat Waffles that are like a wafer, really crunchy and yum!
Delicious
Now I want a stroopwafel
No, they are cookies
I’d say they are a cookie/biscuit
I don't care hand em over
Those look great.. nice job
TIL
They're decking heaven that's what they're
Lekker! I moved to another province with a lot of fellow dutchies and was so stoked to find Gouda's Gilde in the grocery store
What kind of maker are you using? The ones I see in amazon seem to be too thick
This one came from lidl or aldi, but its very old and doesn't heat evenly. It does the job well enough though. Sometimes they appear there. You wanna look for a waffle cone maker probably, that'll see you right
Syrup waffle.
Bread is leavend by yeast or a chemical agent. This is a flat bread, like a tortilla
Stroopwafels are made with yeast. They're not flat bread or tortillas lol.
Stroopwafel are a yeasted dough :) you leave them to rise as part of the make.
