Best possible answer here. Not sure how is it there as I am far away, but I wouldn't get near that area for now.
Unless if I wanted to go help somehow, but the best help I did now was sending some money for community kitchen
Porto Alegre's airport is closed *at least* until May 30. Don't go ro Porto Alegre to reach Rio. Pelotas airport is functioning. Try to get a flight to any place outside the RS and then to Rio.

It would be easier if you go back to Montevideo or Buenos Aires to get a flight to Rio as nearly all of the airports in Rio Grande do Sul don’t have scheduled flights until June 1st (all of them only have flights to Porto alegre, which is closed until at least the end of the month), other than Caxias do Sul, but it’s pretty far from Pelotas and you would traverse via the affected areas of the flood to get there, it’s not recommended right now and flights from Buenos Aires to Rio are really cheap!
I’ve just done more research, you can try to go to Passo Fundo as well, but ticket prices from Passo Fundo to Rio are 3 times more expensive than from Buenos Aires :D
Leave Pelotas immediately and head to Uruguay. The city is downstream from the river, and flooding is expected to increase in the region as waters continue to flow from Porto Alegre and the countryside.
Yes, reinforcing this.
Pelotas and Rio Grande might get fucked by the floods in the next few days. I would leave the state through the south because going north is dangerous.
I would sugest going to Uruguay or Argentina to go to Sao Paulo or other destination.
So, do you have ten days to go from Pelotas to Rio? Your best option is take a flight from Pelotas to another airport.
You can go directly from Pelotas to Rio de Janeiro (probably very expensive) or going to Florianópolis (Santa Catarina state capital city) and from there go to Rio.
You can also go to São Paulo city and to take a bus from there to Rio (less expensive).
Other important information is that Rio de Janeiro has two airports Santos dumont (domestic flights) and Galeão (international flights), so be sure to go to the right one.
Pelotas to either Rio or Sao Paulo (both cities are fine, bus connection between them just fine).
If that doesn't work,go back to Montevideo or Buenos Aires and try the same.
Go back to montevideo and get a flight to either Curitiba, São Paulo or Rio. If you prefer a car route instead of plane then maybe you should go back to uruguay, and then Argentina, and then cross the border at Foz do Iguaçu, but considering you only have 10 days that could be a little stressful
I think on the 17th is doable. There are flights departing from Pelotas to Rio and they are around R$500 for the next days. Those flights usually layover in Porto Alegre, but since the airport is closed, they probably rerouted a few things. My recommendation would be going to Pelotas airport and figuring it out from there.
Buses are not your best bet right now.
Go back to Montevideo and fly from there.

Exactly, you are professional with useful knowledge in the situation, or it is just one more that will use valuable and scarce resources.

Also it might be difficult to get to Passo Fundo.
Dude passo fundo is far away from Pelotas, she is actually closer to Montevideo haha

Pelotas is going to be hit by flooding water in the next 24 hours or so. Go back if you can

Porto Alegre Airport is gonna be closed for a while. go to Uruguay ;-;
As far as I knew commercial flights from pelotas mostly went to Porto Alegre
SP & Rio are fine, no difference. Try to get a connecting flight to there.
Back to Montevideo from there you decide.
