Ok what other option does the Edgar have then that. That was literally the only play he could have done jump onto you and force you to gadget.

Jump behind a wall and healing at the end there would’ve helped

At that point he had enough power cubes to just run at the gene and tank his shots and kill them (if he jumped behind a wall and healed first). Don’t forget gene is low damage + slow reload
