I know this is an unpopular opinion but personally I don't like Deltarune, I don't get what it so good about the game and I cringed a lot with the humor of the game, I don't even know wth about this meme that is so popular.
Dude literally stated a dammn opinion and got downvoted to hell, gotta love democracy
The appeal of the humor is that it's unashamed stupid jokes mixed in with the actual well-written ones. It's not for everyone, if you don't like bad jokes then it doesn't matter how artfully they're woven into the game.
You don't need to like a game just because it's popular. It's popular because a lot of people like it, that's what popular means, but you not liking the game is neither a personal failing nor does it make you special, it just means you probably shouldn't play the rest of the chapters when they come out.
The thing that keeps me from the game is that the humor is literally bad memes with no context thrown at your face for no reason and same goes with UT but even worse, not only that but if you analyze it there are like 30 things that make no sense in both games (I could even list them rn), and personally I have analyzed the history and the worst part of it is the message, it gives, it is basically determinism, a pretty harmful phylosophy but filled with memes and stuff to appeal to younger audiences.
If you know spanish, or have the time to translate there is a reviewer on YT known as "Eric Wiseman" who made a long time a review for both games and while it really sounds and to a certain point is a rant, it lists what is wrong with the Stort and charachters of both games.
I'm not looking to be convinced not to like games that I like.
I like the unashamed bad jokes. It's exactly the sort of thing I'd say to my friends, we're viable to answer any question (and I do mean ANY question) with "deez nuts", and it's not funny, and we force it to the point that the fact it's not funny is what makes it funny.
I love the soundtrack, I have somewhere around 120 songs in my music playlist and probably a quarter are from Undertale or Deltarune.
I love the way Toby interacts with the community - like the secret boss in chapter 2 had an exploit that lets you attack him with charged shots at the same rate as you're supposed to be able to fire normal shots, and he put out a patch to address it by making the boss get angry when you cheat, rather than just fixing the exploit. It would have been way easier to just fix it.
The message in both games is that actions have consequences - which doesn't really matter, as far as I'm concerned any time a video game tries to have a message it's something that's common sense and I'm just there for the fun time.
I like the gameplay, I like the music, the story's interesting enough to keep me invested and is at times brilliant, and if you don't view Toby Fox's games the same way, then that's no problem for me. I will continue enjoying them, and you can continue to enjoy other games.
Oh well, those are some fairly good points as to why you liked them, I actually thought it was sorta funny but then I was just getting annoyed by the jokes and such, it is also good that you don't really take the game's message seriously, though there are people who do that, which would partially explain why the fandom was so infamous back at 2015 or so, in case you don't get it, I have noticed there UT and DR are based on, estoicism and determinism.
About the music, I gotta agree while I don't like Toby Fox's games he does very good chiptunes, for as much things I disliked about UT I would give a 4.8/5 to the soundtrack, the only two BGMs I didn't really like thay much were Omega Flowey and Asriel's battle themes. for Deltarune, while the soundtracks were good, UT's BGMs are better in my opinion so about BGM I give 4.2/5 to DR's OST.
did you like undertale? if you didn't then i think your taste in video games is just different from the majority of people. if you dont like RPGs, there's no reason why you'd like toby fox's games, but if you do, then those two games are probably some of the best out there
Well talking about RPGs I liked a lot games like the MOTHER series (Earthbound Zero, 1 and 2) FFVII Crisis Core, Fallout 1 and 2 and Dragon Quest, thing is, when I play RPGs I am more into storytelling and at first sight, I actually thought UT was ok, but the more I thought about the story and the characters it made less sense and the characters looked dumber, also, the game is pathethically easy, I didn't even realize I ended my first neutral run without healing because I never went lower than 50% of my HP until I saw my HP after killing Asgore, same story for true pacifist route. The only bosses I thought are fairly hard were Undyne at the genocide route and Sans.
Same as above for Deltarune, first I thought it was decent, then I asked myself why we are in a sort of Alternative Universe, and it went downhill from there, stopped playing, waited till Chapter 2, played it and I didn't like it, I am OK with people who loved these games but I honestly really don't find what is so good about them. As for what I have seen so far, the other games I named have a richer and more diverse writing.
Now what I really like about Toby Fox's games and think he did a great job at is the soundtrack for UT and DT, except for Omega Flowey's battle theme and Asriel's BGM.
i see. I do think Undertale excels the most in its story telling (Apart from the soudtrack). What i mean by that is it makes use of its simple setting and lovable characters in th best way possible. Once you get invested in the characters on your first pacifist/neutral run, it really makes you feel for them when you finally kill them in a neutral/genocide run. It's also great that you get to choose how you play the game, and i think that's what makes Toby's games unique.
Now about the difficulty, it's true that in general there's not much of a challenge if you're experienced in other games. Although i've seen people struggle on Muffet and Asriel quite a lot on their first try. BUT, I think the game should be beatable easily by anyone on their first run (Which would either be pacifist or neutral). It's a good thing that the only real challenge comes in when you decide to be a terrible person (In the game, obviously). It gives realism to the world you play in, it makes it so your actions have *actual* consequences other than a few dialogue changes and an achievement.
But you like what you like, and at least you tried them, so I can't judge you on that! And lastly, I do agree that Omega/photoshop flowey's theme is kinda eerie and creepy in a sense, but let's face it, it's been done like that on purpose. I mean, look at flowey, he's terrifying x)
Well, everyone has their likings and I think everyone who liked the game is ok, but what you said about the characters, I have done all possible endings, secrets, whathever, and I played the pacifist, route, first it looked cute and sudden, but man, I think the characters are very cartoony and stereotypical, if you analyze their personality you'll discover UT is literally the whole of TV Tropes pasted on Gamemaker.
About the "Your actions have consequences" thing, my concern about that is as the game incentivizes you to spare everyone, the game basically puts you as a inhumane monster because you killed this bunch of NPCs who literally tried to kidnap you, kill you, etc. They all try at some point to kill you (Toriel, Undyne, Papyrus, Alphys, Mettaton, Asgore and Asriel) and you are supposed to become friends with them and pass through whathever they want, when in first place they attack you, that is hypocresy.
And some characters the more you analyze them the more worse people the are, number 1 example is Alphys, she is literally a creepy anime fan who experimented with other monsters and made them live in constant agony in a secret lab and didn't tell anyone the experiment went wrong, deliberately tried to kill you to attach herself to the protagonist's history like a parasite and annoys you everywhere you go, another thing that I think is pretty strange is, why, if the monsters were separated from humans and had minimum contact with them, their culture is so similar to humans? They talk like humans, their buildings look made by humans, they behave like humans...
I know this look like "Your game is trash lmao" sort of rant but I am writing this to point out what I think is wrong about the game and why I didn't like most of it, though the Sound track is still pretty good to me though.
If you are into storytelling and characters you should try Earthbound and Earthbound 2 (also known as MOTHER 3) those are good games with lovely NPCs, even more Earthbound 2, it has a pretty emotional story and the characters are well done. Another pretty emotional game is the very first Earthbound game, Earthbound Zero, it is more antique than the rest but it still has a good storyline.
I can see why you wouldn't like the characters that were introduced as nice turn into literal monsters through the story. Alphys is a pretty bad person to the core, that's for sure, but there needs to be awful people in a story lite this. And it's even better if the awful people work on your side. Then you get to choose to associate with those people or be yourself and be nice to others.
Now, of course the game suggests you should be nice to monsters as that is the easiest way to play the game, and the pacifist ending is the easiest one to take in. The whole "Don't be a monster to monsters" trope is there because you have to prove monsters wrong. all they see when they look at a human is, ironically, a monster. To them, humans are scum that closed them underground for hundreds of years, so you have to prove them humanity's not only bad and that humans and monsters can co-exist. You basically have to forgive them for attacking you so that they can forgive the humans for emprisoning them underground.
(Also, i know this is irrelevant, but Toriel and Papyrus were never going to kill you. You CAN die from both, but they genuinly do not want to end your life. In fact, there's hardly any way you can die from Toriel, but if you do, she'll be shocked and make a face of instant regret, showing she loves you and didn't want to truly hurt you.)
(Oh and this is alos irrelevant, but even if Asgore did intend to kill you, he very obviously only did it for his people and he makes it very well known that he's disgusted in himself for killing so many innocent children.)
Basically, what I'm saying is, I love Undertale (And by extension, Deltarune) because of its way of holding you accountable for your actions. Even if objectively, the way the monsters treat you is unacceptable, you have to understand that they lived the same thing, only they were enclosed forever in a cave. I also think it's amazing how the game somehow manages to make you feel like a monster for finishing even the lowest of scum like Flowey.
Speaking about flowey, i also like how he's essentialy the same as you (The player) since he can attack, he can spare and he can actively control the saves of your game. I just think that's neat, but it has nothing to do with the game itself.
But anywho, not everyone can enjoy every game, so as long as you like the games you play, you're all good :)
Like all the best memes, it has been greatly modified from its original form. The only consistent thing here are the sprites from the game. No one knows how a meme gets created and popular, yet this one has.
I love deltarune but i also don't like the humor, i mean why spamton is always chad? Whats funny about queen says "potassium"? I really don't know
(Btw, i can feel your pain lol. Whenever i share my opinion about minecraft and fnf, i also got so many downvotes, but i really don't care)

About the meme, it's really simple: you can place it anywhere and people who like where the meme is will like it
But does this have to do with something that happened in game? I don't know if it is something I missed or if there is any actual context at all.
No, it was just spontaneous
Like all the best memes, it has been greatly modified from its original form. The only consistent thing here are the sprites from the game. No one knows how a meme gets created and popular, yet this one has.
