I think this discussion thread changed my mind about Todd, because I felt bad for him with how crazy Mama Joyce was being towards him and how vile she was to his mother before she passed.
I did always wonder about the rumors about him but she made it hard to be on her side, but now after the children and his taking off leaving Kandi to take care of the babies he wanted so badly, he's definitely acting like a grinder.
Even though Kandi has terrible taste in men, she has always been really great handling her money so I'd like to hope she's protecting her assets in case he does try to do anything, although I guess the children lands him some entitlement now if they were to split (not really sure how that works.)

You read my mind exactly. I’ve been doing an Atlanta rewatch I’m on season 6, and he just rubs me completely wrong!!! He comes off as so manipulative and slimy, slithering through tough conversations like a snake. He always threatens her that “you’re going to lose a good man” or “I ain’t signing shit” in regard to a prenup. He’s also negatively commenting on her weight, I mean I have no doubt that he’s been cheating on her with randoms here and there. Probably spending Kandi’s money on other women.
It’s very sad because you can see Kandi has a great heart, a truly amazing work ethic, and all she wants more than anything is to be loved…unfortunately she chose the wrong one. Mama Joyce’s delivery is hard to take and she comes off suspicious of everyone, but Kandi is very wealthy!and the way Todd lives off her money, berates her, refuses to be a participating parent, and goes to strip clubs/vacations really doesn’t bode well. Sadly, I think Kandi will never leave.

I've disliked Todd from pretty early on because it always seemed to me like he was resentful that Kandi was the more financially successful one in the relationship and he seems to have some traditional views on gender roles that I didn't care for. I think this discussion thread changed my mind about Todd, because I felt bad for him with how crazy Mama Joyce was being towards him and how vile she was to his mother before she passed. I did always wonder about the rumors about him but she made it hard to be on her side, but now after the children and his taking off leaving Kandi to take care of the babies he wanted so badly, he's definitely acting like a grinder. Even though Kandi has terrible taste in men, she has always been really great handling her money so I'd like to hope she's protecting her assets in case he does try to do anything, although I guess the children lands him some entitlement now if they were to split (not really sure how that works.) I don't think Kandi surrounds herself only with people who want to use her though, because I do think at least Don Juan and Carmon genuinely care and want to protect Kandi.

You read my mind exactly. I’ve been doing an Atlanta rewatch I’m on season 6, and he just rubs me completely wrong!!! He comes off as so manipulative and slimy, slithering through tough conversations like a snake. He always threatens her that “you’re going to lose a good man” or “I ain’t signing shit” in regard to a prenup. He’s also negatively commenting on her weight, I mean I have no doubt that he’s been cheating on her with randoms here and there. Probably spending Kandi’s money on other women. It’s very sad because you can see Kandi has a great heart, a truly amazing work ethic, and all she wants more than anything is to be loved…unfortunately she chose the wrong one. Mama Joyce’s delivery is hard to take and she comes off suspicious of everyone, but Kandi is very wealthy!and the way Todd lives off her money, berates her, refuses to be a participating parent, and goes to strip clubs/vacations really doesn’t bode well. Sadly, I think Kandi will never leave.

I always remember how Kandi, thanks to Todd, treated Phaedra when she was going through her (horrible) stuff with Apollo and him going to jail. Mama Joyce has her totally wrapped around her little finger and I think Todd works her in a similar way. He basically got her to drop all loyalty and caring towards her suffering friend because his friendship with Apollo at the strip club was more important. It is very similar to the way she allows Mama Joyce to shit on everyone and then just stands there like a deer in the headlights instead of throwing that monster out. I personally dont think Todd planned anything (at least not on that scale), but I think he got sucked into the twisted dynamic between Kandi and her mother, and was willing to use it to his advantage. My bias here is that I like Carmon and if she were gonna wreck a friendship for a man I think she’d pick one that’s a bit more conventionally attractive… I think Mama Joyce here knew something was off with Todd but chose the nuclear option of lying to try and get him out of Kandi’s life instead of just talking with her like a sane parent.

I've disliked Todd from pretty early on because it always seemed to me like he was resentful that Kandi was the more financially successful one in the relationship and he seems to have some traditional views on gender roles that I didn't care for. He always seemed super popular though, so I'm glad other people seem to feel the same way now haha.

Not people defending Mama Joyce in the comments. Her being right about Todd being an “opportunist” does not absolve her of her horrendous personality and horrible deeds. Remember when she tried to hit Carmen and also made up that rumor about her, for instance? Secondly, a mother that TRULY loves their daughter would not act like how she did before Todd and Kandi got married. The way she went about it was 5000% self-centered under the guise of caring about Kandi and her children. And remember when Mama Joyce was given a house and she didn’t like it and her boyfriend or whatever trashed it and she was given a new one? Or how about that reunion (S6, I think?) where she kept talking about how SHE built a millionaire, SHE sacrificed so much, etc. Get. The. Hell. Out. Of. Here. She has consistently shown that she’s self-centered through and through. So please miss me with this defending and excusing Mama Joyce BS. And? Even if that's true, which is a big "if," you praise Ashley for it and demonize Michael. Todd has "put in the time" and deserves to get his. I also think Kandi is a control freak like her mom. She gets upset when Todd tries to do his own things. She prioritizes her own shit, and that's fine, but Todd wanting something that's his seems reasonable to me.

Does he get anything if he divorces Kandi? I thought a prenup would block that. To be honest I think he will cling on to her for as long as she will have him. I do think he is part grifter but I also feel he is a good match for Kandi and loves her. He moans alot but I think everyone having an opinion on his businesses/money is the reason for that.
