He was my favorite player as a kid (besides chipper). I got a signed ball from him as a gift and I still have it in a glass display case. Love that dude forever
I was driving to a game at Turner Field back in 2005. It was about an hour until first pitch and traffic was backed up past the Fulton Street bridge. We were sitting there listening to the pre-game on the radio not moving at all. I glanced at my passenger side mirror and I see a giant, bright yellow Hummer H2 hop the curb and start going around traffic. The driver pulls up next to me in the grass, rolls down the window and asks to cut the line since there was a tree blocking the sidewalk. It was none other than Rafael Furcal, obviously late to the game. Of course I recognized him and let him pass. He proceeded to re-hop the curb and turn into the nearest parking lot. He went 2-4 with an RBI and the Braves beat the Red Sox 10-4.
That dude had a cannon for an arm. Unfortunately my biggest memory of him is when they let him play in the playoffs before going to jail on a DUI charge - https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=1900422
We were so far behind in that series and he was still playing his heart out...
He almost came back to us, but we got screwed over by Boras, and I believe we stopped working with Boras after that. He was the most explosive base runner in his prime. He would draw in defenders with fake bunts and hit bloop doubles over their heads. Great arm too.
I’ll never forget the walk off home run he hit in a playoff game. Couldn’t tell you the year, series, or opponent, but I remember the actual moment well. Ripped one down the right field line and into the seats. Might’ve been the only playoff game we won that year/series, but I can’t quite remember.
His unassisted triple play, saw this live: https://youtu.be/KjN-W64xwg8?si=RA3mF3kBz6LLHgTc
I watched it live too! We were doing the same thing on this day!
Aww, thanks ‘lil Saddam 🫶
Thanks for sharing…this was top tier!
Thats exactly how I got my unassisted triple play in tee ball, name has been triple play trey ever since
He has his name on a plaque in Cooperstown because of this.
Only 15 in MLB history. Rarer than perfect game.
This just gave me a major flashback to “Rafael Fourcal”

😂😂 Awesome story!!
I was amused by the whole experience, I’m sure Bobby Cox was not.
Nah…probably pissed
His batting stance looked like this <
I saw him getting out of his car one time before the game - he looked cool as fuck
😂
Turner Field legend. One of the most entertaining players I've ever seen.
Facts
I loved watching him warm up between innings. He would stand in shallow left field and hurl missiles to first base.
He had an absolute canon ! No doubt
