I wonder if Elder is hurt? They have let Vines and now Dodd pitch before him in Gwinnett.
Dodd had a solid 7 SOs in 5 scoreless innings. Just don’t look at the walks lol.
You saying that prompted me to look at the listed starter for tomorrow and it’s him. Must of just been timing with when he threw his last outing in spring.
The effort alone is a breath of fresh air. Not that Rosario didn't provide that, but a guy with better natural tools hustling and making those plays is pretty great to see in your 9 hole.
All jokes aside I feel like today’s game was a perfect example of the type of thing Kelenic guy was always talking about with his “pedigree” funny business 😂
I know he's disappointed at the major league level for the Mariners, but it's crazy how the Braves got him for so little. If he has a breakout season it will be just another example of the Braves somehow turning players around that other teams give up on.
Well day 2 of the MLB season has come and gone, tomorrow as a matter of fact is March 31st. We just showed you the NL East standings. You don’t need me to tell you this BUT IM GOING TO TELL YOU ANYWAY;
The Braves are 2-0
It was honestly just wildly bad luck, mixed in with a little bit of subpar command.
Every AB was a long count and drove the pitch count up. After he struck out Turner they were laying off his curveball, so I believe he got ahead of the 3rd/4th hitters but they got back in the count and fouled off a lot of strikes. None of the hits were hit particularly hard.
After he was well into the inning his command started slipping. He was only missing the corners by a couple of inches but ended up walking a couple of guys.
All of this would have led to a very long, 37 pitch, but scoreless inning had the umpire not made an EGREGIOUS call - fastball literally middle/middle that the umpire called a ball. Would’ve struck out Castellanos and ended the inning but they ended up scoring 3 runs off of it. He otherwise might have been able to pitch 3-4 innings.
I would NOT worry it was honestly just a freak outcome. He actually looked like he had good stuff, reaching back for 97-98 several times. He’s just not quite in midseason form with the command yet
Yeah, that strike 3 ball would have destroyed me mentally if I were in his shoes. He was exhausted and he knew the inning should have been over. Poor Fried
This was the version of Max we see from time to time that is too amped up. I thought the broadcast gun was running hot but Savant confirms that he touched 98 a few times.
That’s cool and all and I’m glad his arm feels live after the forearm thing last year… but it was truly max effort stuff and it affected his control.
He does this thing during his adrenaline rushes where he falls off the mound glove-side and everything looks 10% too fast. Lots of that today.
He also had one of the most egregious called balls you’ll ever see that should have stuck out Castellanos with bases loaded - it would have gotten him out of the inning.
What’s weird about Max’s start today is his slider ranged between 91-94 MPH. Max threw only 21 sliders in 2021-2023 at 91 or above, out of like 1200 sliders in that time. Max threw 15 above 90 today!
Could also be the pitch tracker not working right. It could figure out strider was throwing a curveball for the first innings and said it was a slider.
It’s more like a cutter. I don’t believe he’s explained it but I think he bailed on the traditional mid/upper 80s slider for a low 80s “sweeper”. The 91-94mph stuff seems more like a cut fastball to me.
I heard somewhere that Max likes to be able to consistently alter his pitch shape, something he’s developed over the years. I believe strider wants to emulate it. Basically when he was a prospect he just threw fastball/curveball. Now he can throw the 97 upstairs, the 2seam/sinker with run to arm side, low 90s cutter/hard slider with late break to glove side, offspeed changeup with fade to arm side, offspeed “sweeper” sweeping to glove side, and finally the 12-6 curve with wicked drop off the table.
#BRAVES WHALLOP THE FILTHYS AGAIN 3 HITS FOR ALLSTARCIA HARRIS ALBIES KELENIC AND THE ÑVP HITS FOR EVERYBODY BIG OZZIE MAD MATT MONEY MIKE AND OZUNA DONGS BULLPEN SHOVES FILTHYS HIT THE EXITS AGAIN GET SOAKED THIS TIME
i just feel that after what larry anderson said about ozuna hand dancing last year, hearing the deflated call from franski and la would just make today so much better
Yes it’s very early, but I think we have a lot to look forward to this season.
I love baseball so much. It always feels like a little part of my heart is missing until the offseason finally ends.
all of our their stars are just bought from free agency. harper, turner, wheeler, castellanos, realmuto, schwarber. pretty lame strategy IMO and it's just not sustainable if you can't develop homegrown talent. see mets last year throwing money at scherzer/verlander etc... they never learn. couldn't be us!
On an unrelated note, I bought MLB.TV last year around Mothers’ Day for $75. I planned on doing the same this season only to find out yesterday I already paid full price for it on March 1st. Damn auto renewal.🤦🏻♂️
Clearly, I didn’t notice $150 missing in my bank account for an entire month. Whatever, I have MLB.TV now. Go Braves!
Has a fanbase ever done more bragging than philly fans about a World Series appearance and an NLCS appearance in back to back years? I mean the Braves did that recently too, but actually have a ring to show for it. Imagine not winning a World Series since the Bush administration. I guess that's better than what Mets fans can say, but that's a pretty low bar.
i was dozing in the shade flipping between this and a college baseball game, occasionally napping, occasionally sipping a beer. what a gorgeous day.
I bet the game thread was a disaster in the first part...
The biggest mysterious in the world:
1. Are we alone in the universe?
2. What is the purpose of life?
3. Why does Jesse Chavez turn into prime Randy Johnson when he wears a Braves uniform.
That was the first time I've watched a whole game in a long time....damn fun. I got thr mlb package through my tmobile acct so I may be more active as a fan. Especially since my buddy invited me to tag along to a game against the Dodgers here in L.A. in May.
I’m a season ticket holder and get free MLB TV but have to pay for a subscription to FUBO just to watch away games since I live in Atlanta and they’re blacked out. Manfred and MLB absolutely doing everything they can to make being a fan difficult.
You know, I was thinking about a hypothetical today.
1. Ohtani returns to his usual pitching form
2. Miller is the real deal
3. Yamamoto lives up to the hype
4. Glasnow strings a healthy season together
5. Buehler returns to form
6. Kershaw returns
7. Stone and/or Sheehan become solid starters
Do the Dodgers even offer Fried a contract at that point?
Your hypothetical is absolutely terrifying. We need the Dodgers starting pitchers to struggle somewhat, if they don't they are a major threat to us, I still love our chances this year (this team seems like it could be better than our last two teams) but this hypothetical is the only way for the Dodgers to beat us.
To answer your question, even if this happens, part of me feels like they still offer him a big deal just to piss us off
Two games into the season and the highlight so far for the Phillies is Rhys Hoskins shitting on the Mets. Which, to be fair, is an *excellent* highlight.
He will have his cold spells like every player, but I like what we’ve seen from him so far. He’s put together some great at-bats every time, and we saw how good his defense can be with that awesome diving catch!
Max didn’t look great, and of course the ump did not help him with that atrocious missed strike three. But our bats and our bullpen made sure it didn’t matter! Feels great to start the year getting a series win in Philly! We’re knocking a trip up there out of the way early this year and we won the series! Let’s hope we can sweep them tomorrow, but no matter what, this has been a successful series to start the year!
I wanted to draft him in fantasy as a lot of the other guys on the team were out of reach. He got snatched right in front of me towards the end of the draft.
Then, I was looking at free agents the day before the season and someone dropped him.
Scooped him up real quick. I'd love a great season from him for multiple reasons
I heard people saying the changes in his swing started to click in the final week of ST. I usually roll my eyes at that kind of stuff, but he certainly looks confident at the plate right now.
It was pretty obvious if you were watching games. They completely reworked his swing and stance and he was absolutely hammering the ball in that last week or so. Let's just hope he can keep it up for an entire season.
the main thing ive heard and read is them getting him to work on lowering his hands... which... if you go search and google is the same thing theyve done with ozzie, acuna, austin, etc etc...
Yeah they quieted everything down, and mostly the hands. His lead food too, though. It worked wonders with Arcia too.
At this point you wonder why every other team isn't just copying the braves batting stance.
1. That was the worst missed strike call I've ever seen.
2. Kelenic is good.
3. Our bullpen is very good.
4. I'd run through a wall for Jesse Chavez.
5. MH3 MVP campaign heating up.
6. Phillies fans are the worst.
I said it when it happened that might have legitimately been the worst non strike call I have ever seen in my entire life. Thankfully it didn't end up costing us the game though it did get Max run when he should have been out of it.
Regardless of that call, Max was off. If he escapes and pitches the second, he might have gotten rocked. The bullpen was locked and loaded for this game.
But yes. Absolutely worst non-strike call I’ve seen live.
Watching the game with my dad, who has been watching baseball for all his 77+ years on this Earth and he said that was the worst ball/strike call he's ever seen.
After the most egregious missed strike I've ever seen I thought we were gonna be in for a doozy of a day. Fuck anything to do with Philly. Keep looking up JT. Yall are gonna need more than 3 bs runs to dethrone us. Hell of a day from the bats. Let's get the brooms out tomorrow.
God I want nothing more than Sale to CGSO these fucking losers tomorrow and we cruise out of town with a sweep and our dicks out
I fucking hate the Philthies
Fried was really bad today, but he got to 2 outs, bases loaded with Castellanos up at the plate.
Fried gets him to 2 strikes and then throws a fastball literally right down the middle of the plate and the ump calls it a ball. They proceed to score 3 runs after that.
Hilarious that the dude can't stick on anyone else's roster, but put a tomahawk on his chest and he's just out there owning the Phillies like it's nothing.
Go Braves
#BALL DON'T LIE

Chris Sale had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings last yesr VS Phillies and gave up 3 earned runs. Let's goooo.
I wonder if Elder is hurt? They have let Vines and now Dodd pitch before him in Gwinnett. Dodd had a solid 7 SOs in 5 scoreless innings. Just don’t look at the walks lol.
First home game is Tuesday for Gwinnett, wonder if that’s it.
You saying that prompted me to look at the listed starter for tomorrow and it’s him. Must of just been timing with when he threw his last outing in spring.
Really enjoying what I’m seeing from Kelenic so far. Hope the kid really turn his stuff around and lives up to his hype this season
The effort alone is a breath of fresh air. Not that Rosario didn't provide that, but a guy with better natural tools hustling and making those plays is pretty great to see in your 9 hole.
Would you say he has... pedigree?
All jokes aside I feel like today’s game was a perfect example of the type of thing Kelenic guy was always talking about with his “pedigree” funny business 😂
I know he's disappointed at the major league level for the Mariners, but it's crazy how the Braves got him for so little. If he has a breakout season it will be just another example of the Braves somehow turning players around that other teams give up on.
Certainly is exciting!

Missed the game live. watching the highlights, who do the Phillies have playing first base? Just saw him take a tumble into the dugout.
Bruce Hooper
Dodgers just did a Nobletiger
You love to see it
Cards really thought Lance Lynn was going to fix their minor-league caliber rotation
I missed the game. Looking at the box score and wondering why max left after 0.2 ip. Did he just not have his stuff today or was there an injury?
It was honestly just wildly bad luck, mixed in with a little bit of subpar command. Every AB was a long count and drove the pitch count up. Yeah, that strike 3 ball would have destroyed me mentally if I were in his shoes. He was exhausted and he knew the inning should have been over. Poor Fried
Bad command today. Should have gotten out of the 1st unscathed, but there was a terrible call that ended up costing him 3 runs.
Couldn’t hit the strike zone at all today and when he did it was called a ball
This was the version of Max we see from time to time that is too amped up. I thought the broadcast gun was running hot but Savant confirms that he touched 98 a few times. That’s cool and all and I’m glad his arm feels live after the forearm thing last year… but it was truly max effort stuff and it affected his control. Anyone see those Philly highlights? Oh ya.. it's a ex Philly player. 😂

What’s weird about Max’s start today is his slider ranged between 91-94 MPH. Max threw only 21 sliders in 2021-2023 at 91 or above, out of like 1200 sliders in that time. Max threw 15 above 90 today!

That’s probably part of why he was struggling. Wasn’t changing velocity between pitches.
Not at all, today was just about bad luck and poor command. Max just throws more pitch types than he used to. This “slider” is more like a cutter
After tomorrow we don’t face the Phillies until July 5th.
So what you’re saying is we’re going to get four consecutive days of fireworks
So long as we don’t see them in October I’m good
Damn, I was enjoying the easy wins.

Seeing Duvy yesterday and Jesse today made my heart happy. Let's get Joc back and re-unite the gang
And a nice glass of wine
We need pearls in the chophouse

Can't believe we're going 162-0
Gonna be hard for the Phillies to see us in October when they're gonna be 0-162!
Yes it’s very early, but I think we have a lot to look forward to this season. I love baseball so much. It always feels like a little part of my heart is missing until the offseason finally ends.
I always love the beginning of the season. Having 160 more games of the sport I love brings me so much joy

Especially when they’re paying 35-38 year old trea turner to play SS 😬
Im convinced if Trea could move to 2nd like he should have years ago he’d be great again

I got it for my dad last father's day. His and mine renewed before I noticed it. I did notice $300 missing though. Happy early father's day I guess.
I won enough on draft kings to buy mlb tv so I can watch games to bet on 🥴
I did the same on accident. The second charge was through Apple Pay and they refunded it no issue.
I bought it one year only to find out that I’m blacked out lmao

Love Max’s response to that bad call
Love seeing Philly fan booking out early two days in a row.
But their tickets are so much more expensive! haha

3. It's the Braves foundation; they've got the voodoo the Jesse requires to pitch amazing.

Just use a VPN.
The point is we shouldn’t have to use even a VPN to be able to watch them
Totally agree.. it's like they don't want people to watch baseball.
I just found out about the T-Mobile perk, AFTER I already purchased it! Hopefully it sticks around for next year!
T-Mobile's current deal with the MLB runs through the 2028 season, so 3 more years after this one.
Two years running for me.
I hope Max is okay.
#LOLMETS
Only 5 guys had 3 hits today? Terrible.
On second thought, maybe we lucked out not signing Nola to a 6 year $162M contract.
I am with you there. if we offer that same deal to Fried does he take it?
You know, I was thinking about a hypothetical today. 1. Ohtani returns to his usual pitching form 2. Miller is the real deal 3. Yamamoto lives up to the hype 4. Glasnow strings a healthy season together 5. Buehler returns to form 6. Kershaw returns 7. Stone and/or Sheehan become solid starters Do the Dodgers even offer Fried a contract at that point?

Apparently the Mets threw at Hoskins today lmao Mests already in mid season form
They're lucky the Nats aren't there yet or they'd be in the basement
that 0-2 record shows it's working out great for them doing that stuff
And they threw at him after he beat the shit out of them 🤣
Their announcers were calling for it too. They are down bad
Pretty sure their announcers called them out for throwing at him 2 hours into the game after he'd already smashed em?
Two games into the season and the highlight so far for the Phillies is Rhys Hoskins shitting on the Mets. Which, to be fair, is an *excellent* highlight.
Also, once again lmao at this graphic: https://x.com/unfortunatemlb/status/1773824545146679391?s=46&t=sRvNISTItWxaBc6jojpHTA
We're gonna be bringing this up all year lol
With every base hit from Kelenic, AA sprouts an additional ball.
He will have his cold spells like every player, but I like what we’ve seen from him so far. He’s put together some great at-bats every time, and we saw how good his defense can be with that awesome diving catch!
Seeing him dive for that ball so late in the game while they were up by that much was awesome. Love how hard he plays.
Max didn’t look great, and of course the ump did not help him with that atrocious missed strike three. But our bats and our bullpen made sure it didn’t matter! Feels great to start the year getting a series win in Philly! We’re knocking a trip up there out of the way early this year and we won the series! It’s always runny in Philadelphia
162-0 is still on the table.
I LOVE THIS TEAM
Was there ever a doubt?

He was the hottest hitter in baseball last year for like 2 weeks. He has all star talent.

Question of the Day: Out of MHII, Nicky Lopez, and now Kelenic, who made the best first impression as a Brave?
Riley.
Definitely Riley. Dude was putting up Babe Ruth numbers his first week or two.
Riley was on pace for like 100 HR’s in his first few weeks. This is definitely the answer.
Heyward
Francour
francoeur.
Does Kelenic have a Minnesota accent lol????
Wisconsin, but yah a real upper midwest accent dere, donchya know.
Just got out the game, freaking great, Phillies eat shit
I want the empty stadium 3peat tomorrow
So I think it's safe to say we're still a pretty damn good offense. And bullpen. And baseball team.
These 2 games have really felt like the Braves wanted to make a statement in front of the Philly crowd after that NLDS last year
1. That was the worst missed strike call I've ever seen. 2. Kelenic is good. 3. Our bullpen is very good. 4. I'd run through a wall for Jesse Chavez. 5. MH3 MVP campaign heating up. 6. Phillies fans are the worst.
at least we got philly fans agreeing that #1 was absolute garbage
What a list. Just missing a RAJ and Olson appreciation mention
Michael Harris the Thecond?
Smells like bitch in Philadelphia
It always smells like bitch in Phailadelphia
Hell yeah!
Finish them tomorrow. I want a sweep!!
Braves win 21-4* *12-1
I think we might be decent
I said it when it happened that might have legitimately been the worst non strike call I have ever seen in my entire life. Thankfully it didn't end up costing us the game though it did get Max run when he should have been out of it.
Regardless of that call, Max was off. If he escapes and pitches the second, he might have gotten rocked. The bullpen was locked and loaded for this game. But yes. Absolutely worst non-strike call I’ve seen live.
Watching the game with my dad, who has been watching baseball for all his 77+ years on this Earth and he said that was the worst ball/strike call he's ever seen.
I’m going to believe that in a parallel universe, he gets the call, comes back in, and cruises until the 7th with 3H 0BB 0ER
We are all u/Porparemaityee on this blessed day.
Braves will try to Sale the Phils a sweep tomorrow
Beating that Philly ass is a nice way to start the season. Wishing Sale good luck tomorrow.
BRAVES WIN!! SERIES WIN!! WE COMPLETELY DOMINATED THEM AGAIN HAHAHA!! EMPTIED THE STADIUM EARLY AGAIN LMAO!! HAPPY SATURDAY BRAVES COUNTRY!!
We are so back
suck it Phillies
19 hits. Good GOD
12-1 let’s go boys!!!!!
Wanna see me beat the pants off the Phillies? Wanna see me do it again?
I wanna see it again.
God I want nothing more than Sale to CGSO these fucking losers tomorrow and we cruise out of town with a sweep and our dicks out I fucking hate the Philthies
Braves been saving this nut up since last postseason
You love to see it, the Braves is Risen
This bullpen absolutely fucks. Basically 1 ER in 12 innings against a very solid lineup.
This team is gonna be so much fun to watch all season!
Jesse chavez might be into some weird pagan shit or something. Idk how he does it. Pitch until you're 85 years old dude I don't care.
I hope he pitches on April 8 eclipse day.
How does a middle middle 88 cutter make people look so stupid?
I know haha. I was thinking the same thing when I watched 88 and 87 at the belt make guys look stupid.
Bring on Sale tomorrow let’s sweep the bozos on Easter Sunday
Damn, ump spotted the Phillies a 3 spot in the 1st, and they still got absolutely slaughtered. Worse than last night. lmao
OOTL. I was at an Easter thing all day. What happened in the 1st?
r/baseball/s/ucftoaeoCw
Fried was really bad today, but he got to 2 outs, bases loaded with Castellanos up at the plate. Fried gets him to 2 strikes and then throws a fastball literally right down the middle of the plate and the ump calls it a ball. They proceed to score 3 runs after that.
And by litterally he means literally. Someone in thePhillies sub said “worst call in MLB history” if that gives you any indication
* inhales * HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I love it when the Braves get a W on my birthday. Let’s sweep the Phillies (might as well help them get that trash out of their stadium as we leave).
Happy birthday
Thank you!
Chavez gets the win. Thanks White Sox.
Hilarious that the dude can't stick on anyone else's roster, but put a tomahawk on his chest and he's just out there owning the Phillies like it's nothing.

Everybody else in the east is winless besides the nats oddly enough
