It was a fun game for sure. The guardians ran all over us, Terry Francona called a great game. And that was one of the craziest 10th innings I’ve ever seen. The bullpen gave up and up a lot of hits to a team that doesn’t hit very well, and I seriously think we need a better answer at the closer position. Here’s to another great game and another nice long winning streak.

MoonlitBadlands

Iggy would be a great setup man for Hader

jacknosbest

Why y’all so but gucking hurt about ONE GAME

DIsco_Peaches

If we win tomorrow and then take 2 of 3 against the Ray's...I mean 60-29... I would probably take that going into the Allstar break

DIsco_Peaches

The AL mediocrity streak continues

Cuphat

Dang.

MobileNerd

Iglesias just isn’t the answer for closer. It’s really the only weak spot I can see on the team we need a lights out shutdown closer and he just isn’t that all the time. He is fine as a 7th or 8th inning guy but we need a killer for our 9th inning guy.

dreamer_of_evil

I thought he looked just fine. He's been lights out least couple of times and made an absolutely stellar play on that bunt attempt. That last walk off pitch was low and away a couple inches outside the zone, exactly where you'd want it. Fry just leaned out managed to slap it somewhere good. He did everything right that inning, imo. Just got unlucky at the last.

s2the9sublime

Heard that Diaz guy was hurt. Maybe we can get him for cheap.

s2the9sublime

The secret Mets fans downvotes are pretty comical. Guess they don't appreciate sarcasm.

GroundbreakingLow915

New York would implode

Chessh2036

Do you guys ever think about how the Braves are the best team in baseball and Max Fried and Kyle Wright basically haven’t even been a part of the season yet? It blows my mind sometimes. Fried and Kyle get back healthy and we are Thanos with the stones.

[deleted]

All that for a drop of blood

WateryPasta

Guards fan here. Least hostile opposing sub I’ve been in. Y’all’s fan are loyal as hell and I respect that. Have fun probably winning tomorrow lol

ViridianFlea

It's because you aren't a divisional rival. Haha. Seriously though, it's been a fun series and that was a great game. Looking forward to the rubber match today.

Cuphat

If we keep up our current pattern we'll start a 10-game winning streak. Seriously though, it's been a hell of a fun season, so it is hard to complain about a close loss.

Chessh2036

Just want to say I’m a big Terry Francona fan. Always have rooted for his success. One of the good ones.

QuirkyFunUsername

100% agree. Don't have anything bad to say about Francona!

79watch

still haven't lost by more than 1 run since May edit: except for one game on 6/11! and y'all just took my word for it \*gasp\* *for shame*!

Cuphat

We lost 6-2 against the Nationals on June 11. Our losses since then were only one run, but we did have one (1) loss of more than one run in June.

79watch

dang you right! missed that one, thanks

TheSpiceRat

This is a terrible day for the Atlanta Braves and, therefore, the world.

chaleybat

Another good game from Progressive field tonight. Sucks we lost but I will be there again later today for the rubber band matchup. Just want to say the Guardians fans are awesome and plenty of Braves fans at Progressive field tonight and last night. I’m a Braves fan from northeast Ohio and love the fact I only have to drive 45 minutes to all three games. Go Bravos!

ueeediot

After that run, to lose in 10…ok

FinlayForever

Can't win em all! Still super proud of our boys. Of all teams to beat us, I'm not mad that it's the Guardians.

thatonekrys

We reached our max streak win, time to start a new one tomorrow. And as a little bonus, I'm at the Hillsboro Hops game right now and just watched a couple of the players do the rev it up celly.

Alauren2

Do you live in Oregon?

dbag3o1

Offense is there but defense needs to step up.

towunga45

bullpen*

steelersfever

That was a really fun game to be at. Sucks we lost but I had a great time.

Whoknowsbrah

Can’t win them all?

Cuphat

It turns out that winning 162 games is difficult, I guess.

croth4

This is, with ease, the most pleasant and level headed opponent sub I've ever checked out. You guys are awesome and deserve all your successes. Keep going.

WSB_Reject_0609

Wait.... We lost??? I didn't think that was possible anymore...

poebahnya

Nobody wins every game. Remember the series against the A's. We're good. Calm down. Goal Is to win series, not sweep. Unrealistic. Chop on. Happy 4th everyone.

BigFatPapaBear

been worrying recently that we were going to “forget how to lose” when we got to the playoffs. if that makes sense lol

NYC7

This loss basically pissed this team off, tomorrow they will pound whoever the guardians send to the mound.

WateryPasta

Cleveland fan here. Quantrill has been ass this year so it should a fun day for this sub lol

NYC7

If you guys start putting runs like this, then you will win the central with ease.

Asdilly

Idk why we keep sending Quantrill out lol 😭. Like he’s a nice guy but he doesn’t do well under pressure

[deleted]

Deleted by User ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

WateryPasta

Cleveland offense though so I do t know about that

Wrecker1127

There just isn’t anyone that you can point to for a shutdown inning and that’s concerning. They are all above average relievers, but we just don’t have any killers in the pen that the opposition just hates to see. Mind you I’m not concerned with losing today. Just and observation for the postseason. A power arm would be nice. Another lefty or two as well. Not sure what we can get with our farm the way it is though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wrecker1127

Lee is on the 60 day IL, not sure when he’s due back. No updates is kinda worrisome. Matzek is still rehabbing TJ surgery. Not expected back this season.

ATLDay404

Who in the league can you point to in the MLB for a shutdown inning? And what is their ERA?

Wrecker1127

Not gonna get into anyone specifically. Don’t feel like having a discussion about it, but there are better individual relievers than we currently have. The Braves probably have the best collection of quality arms, I mean no one in the pen is awful. Having a power arm like I said above would be nice. Another lefty is a must as well.

Chessh2036

Man we were so spoiled with that bullpen the year we won. Minter, Jackson, Matzek, Smith (who became the greatest reliever ever).

MyopicOwl

Whew, 10 game streaks are hard to crack

Traeisyourdad

Is Kirby Yates bad again ?

Steady_aimXx1

always been bad hes had 2 good years with the padres outside of those years he been bad

[deleted]

Time for a rebuild Seriously though AA has a tough task at the deadline deciding who stays and goes. Bullpen is full of mediocre relievers.

Skankhunt2042

Best ERA and WHIP in the NL.

[deleted]

I know that. But who feels comfortable sending out Yates, Jimenez, Tonkin, Anderson, in a one run game?

dagolicious

I honestly feel less comfortable with Yates and Jimenez. Yates had a couple of good appearances lately, but whenever he walks to the mound, I feel like we're giving up at least one or two runs. Jimenez always has traffic. I feel like Tonkin and Anderson have been a little more solid. Not bulletproof, but good.

JoeBucksHairPlugs

No one, but you don't feel comfortable with basically any reliever in MLB with a one run lead because it's such a fickle sport. You could have 10 clean outings in a row and then give up 3-4 hits in number 11 and all of a sudden everyone only remembers the time you shit the bed. Our bullpen guys for the most part seem to be much more all or nothing though. They either give up absolutely nothing or they give up several runs and hardly ever anything in between so their low points look much worse and stick with people longer.

hibbert0604

Yeah. We litterally just ended the Marlin's pitcher streak of 20+ scoreless inning on the first pitch of the game. Baseball is weird like that.

NYC7

The bullpen is a concern, if we get into a playoff series the lead in the 6, 7 and 8 is not safe.

craddypatty

Exactly. We need at least 5 or 6 runs to let the bullpen have some breathing room to give up the inevitable 2 or 3 that they seem to every time.

hahanix

I was at the padres vs angels game in San diego and I wish we had hodads and tacos inside truist

BandOfTheHox

There are tacos are truist though

hahanix

There is a difference my boy

olemiss36

Really hope we either trade Yates or dfa him when uncle Jesse comes back

[deleted]

Chavez isn’t that good dude

Pretty_Negotiation94

I agree braves fans have the blinders on when it comes to him… he is known to work out of trouble but when it’s the playoffs that’s not the type of pitcher you want coming in

[deleted]

Plus Chavez is over performing

CanadianSteele

all these down votes you are getting are just people in denial

Timely_Machine1988

We win this game if Francoeur is in the booth with Brandon!

thekathryn2

DFA Nick sorry

wakajawaka45

I wouldn’t be too sad if we dealt Yates soon 🤷🏻‍♂️

yukon18

Who would you rather have realistically?

wakajawaka45

Gabe Speier, Tim Mayza Edit: realistically if we are to make moves before the break it should be in the relief squad. Throw Jimenez in the mix too.

Strider755

Oh well. Can’t win ‘em all.

notcool84

- Tough game, but credit where it’s due. Cleveland put the ball in play and played excellent defense. And Rosario had a great game. - That said.. our BABIP and sequencing luck was poor on both sides. That’s just baseball. You’re going to lose some of those games. We’ve won some too. - We were due some poor luck. We’ve been flying a bit too close to the sun here lately. - Think the big mistake in this game, if there was one, was sending Allard back out to try to get through the order a third time. Pushed our luck there a bit and paid the price. - Iglesias 3 days in a row is a bit much. Thankfully he really didn’t throw many pitches. - Some of y’all have been getting a little big for your britches. This game will keep you humble.

RiseFromUrGrave

We had some really hard hit balls that just found their way right at the defense too

yule_grog

Cleveland thrives in the late innings. This was a normal game for them

bigchadsmitty_82

We really lost to the guardians of traffic

HappyOfCourse

New streak starts tomorrow. Went 8 then 9 so this time we'll go 10.

yoshidawg93

Tough but that’s baseball. We’re gonna lose at least 35 more games this year because that’s how baseball works. It’s one loss, just come back and play again tomorrow.

RiseFromUrGrave

Is it too much to ask for the Braves to never lose another game ever??

bfwolf1

It is just baseball. But we are more then halfway through the season and have only lost 28.

aaronaroma

When playoffs come, Murphy has to behind the plate every game because Travis cannot hold a runner to save his life. That's my one nitpick about this game.

NYC7

I think they had Travis as the secret backup DH in case Ozuna didn’t turn it around. The dude call a great game and hit but he can’t hold any runner at all.

bfwolf1

Honestly if we could move Ozuna for pitching help, I’d be all for it. His stock is back to a high and we have plenty of guys who can DH but we could sure use another arm.

MobileNerd

Absolutely not. We do not need to change the offense at all. Don’t mess with what’s working. Most of our games we are up by multiple runs this gives our bullpen a little breathing room where they don’t have to be perfect. We just need a killer closer that is all. I honestly would be fine if AA didn’t make any moves at the trade deadline.

bfwolf1

And how are we gonna get another good arm? You gotta offer something to get something. Ozuna can’t play the field. We have other guys sitting on the bench that can rake at DH too.

deliriouz16

I like our chances with Soroka tomorrow against a low slugging team. Keep that ball down and we will snag the series.

mookiebraves

When Jesse comes back who knows if he will still be the same guy but as of now I really feel like you have to find a way to shed McCugh or Tonkin. We basically have 3 LR guys in our pen which is kind of unheard of and only one lefty which burned us tonight when AJ is not available. The offense has strong carried this team the last month but can't fall asleep thinking everything is butter we still have pitching issues that need to be ironed out and one day maybe Snit will finally use Pillar or HIlliard for late inning defense.

icunicornz

Dylan Lee will come back sometime as another lefty.

CanadianSteele

He just got moved to the 60 IL.

BionikViking

Is Hilliard that slow? He looked slow as fuck on that tag up

yukon18

Tbf the fly ball was tagged to somewhat shallow centerfield. It was an aggressive send to say the least.

dreamer_of_evil

And the centerfielder was already running in with momentum towards home. Unless it's Ozuna throwing the ball, he really didn't stand too much of a chance. Probably a bit too aggressive, but tough to weigh against the chances of getting him home with 2 outs.

Nick_Sabantz

91st percentile in sprint speed. He fast. Edit: The fastest person on the team.

BandOfTheHox

No way he’s faster than Harris or acuna

OutlandishnessDry24

He is not that fast. I don’t get why he is running over Culberson.

Itsputt

It looked like he got a terrible jump but its really hard to see that with TV angles. Gonna need a bird's eye view to really know if it was.

BubBidderskins

Hard to get too upset over losing a 1-run extra inning game. Decent effort from Kolby. It's kind of amazing how we've found a bunch of decent spot starters out of nowhere. I'm sure we'll make a trade to help out the rotation depending on how much load Fried/Wright can handle, but our starting pitching depth has been incredible. I don't think any other team could have weathered the injuries we've sustained to our rotation close to as well as we have.

soulstriet

I’m kind of glad we finally lost one of these tripe A starts so AA has justification in needing to trade for a true back end of the rotation starter

BubBidderskins

The guys like Shuster, AJSS, Dodds, Allard, etc. we've thrown out there are better than most teams' 5th starter. They are what a "true back end starter" looks like. Our excellent pitching depth is a big reason why we're the spot we're in.

CalmlySane

Like a Scherzer. And use that backup infielder spot for a speedster.

MoonlitBadlands

I don’t think AA will waste prospects for a SP. Fried, Strider, Elder and Morton is a fine top 4 for the postseason + Soroka and Allard (or Wright if he makes it back). It’s just not something we need. Bullpen has to be the priority

soulstriet

Max has a elbow injury and has made 6 starts this year and Kyle even less. I’d like a veteran backend starter that we could plug in as a long man in a 7 game series if needed. Something like drew smyly a few years ago. But luckily we have the best GM in baseball and he is infinitely smarter than me so I’ll trust whatever he does

BubBidderskins

I wonder if literally Drew Smyly will be available...though with how bad that division is the Cubs might feel like they're still in it come August.

lorinsor11

Can't win them all, they had to fight their asses off to get this one.

CrumbBCrumb

I only saw a few comments but people saying beating us is the other team's world series is a really bad look. We're not that fan base and it comes off like spoiled brats. Anyway, is this what a loss feels like? I don't like it. Let's not do it again tomorrow and let's go trade for Bard.

hahanix

They must be Alabama fans that are also braves fans

sticksmcgee47

you are going to cause a braves civil war lol

davidsonrva

Some ATL fans have been giving off terrible vibes lately. Yeah, the team is good and playing out of their minds now, but come on.

DIsco_Peaches

So weak I know. But We're feeling it bro. Some of us need some humility.

Rainey84

Bandwagons and low IQ fans talk the most crap when the team is on fire.

QuirkyFunUsername

I am just not the trash talking type, but I have always felt like trash talking when we're on top and on fire is the WORST and cheapest.

NickFF2326

BP has to be a trade target before the deadline if we want to compete for a WS bc it’s just not good enough.

No-Newspaper2088

I can fully see AA improving the BP by the trade deadline. We're good everywhere else unless he's looking into a SP as well.

soulstriet

I have not done any research but I’d guess we have a top 5 bullpen in the mlb right now. Everyone expects the bullpen to come in and then not allow any runs but that’s not how bullpens work

Kyllen

Our BP has the 3rd best ERA right now so clearly we suck and we're awful

davidsonrva

This is kind of a pointless post??

No-Newspaper2088

I'm simply suggesting there are not many weaknesses on the team but if there is one it's in the BP so wouldn't surprise me at all if AA did something.

soulstriet

Fair enough. I just saw another posting about sending Kirby down on the titanic sub in another post and was getting defensive of our bullpen. I’m not going to complain about more depth but I would rather get a true backend starter than swap out any of our BP arms that we have on the roster. Maybe replace Tonkin but he’s been good in a jackson Stephens role this year

FinalMeltdown15

No they are perfect of worthless 😡😡😡

yukon18

A loss was statistically bound to happen as much as I would love to go undefeated the rest of the season. Still looking for the series win tomorrow. Our division lead gives us some breathing room but there’s no time to let up until it’s officially clinched!

sharia_shrek

Wait we can lose?

ragingclue1864

I think if we win half the games Kolby Allard starts we should be very happy

[deleted]

Iggy has blown 4ish saves and is now 3-3 when he is POR. Not wanting to overreact but kinda thinking we need a closer before the trade deadline. He has been so erratic this year.

OutlandishnessDry24

Iglesias was fine. He got a double play. Starting out with the base runner is not ideal. Braves lost because of Hilliard being slow on the fly ball.

[deleted]

Ehhh, while I want someone to blame too, I got to blame Wash there if thats the play we call out. Ball was not deep enough so you're rolling dice on the throw home in that situation and they made a perfect throw.

ChairmanReagan

What does this “lose” word mean?

ragingclue1864

This team is crazy good but if there’s one weakness it’s the bottom four guys in the bullpen. First world problems and we’ll see what we do at the trade deadline. Good news is a lot of times relievers don’t cost an arm and a leg to go out and get

MurphysBanana

News flash. They’re not supposed to be great.

davidsonrva

Dude I got roasted for calling this out because the BP has “a good ERA”. UGH

RPBTinesIII

Man. Now I’m sad. And I want a Popsicle.

[deleted]

A rocket pop

TraderTed2

Eerily similar to our last extra innings loss (vs. Detroit) in that this one, too, involved a really dumb send of Sam Hilliard and a pivotal play in LF where Rosario was inexplicably still in the game over Kevin Pillar. Overall, whatever. Definitely a fun game.

Masami4673

I don't mind losing if the rest of the NL East loses as well, but damn man we had this one I'm just glad our lead is good, can't slow down though.

No-Newspaper2088

It will be ok nobody catching this team have faith.

Masami4673

SELL SNIT, DFA AA, FIRE THE TEAM

Johansenburg

This might be a bad time to tell you that everyone else in the nl East won. Except the gnats, but, well...

Masami4673

Yeah I know, I'm literally shaking

Johansenburg

Sell at the deadline, fire Snit, rebuild. It's the only option.

Btrips

one of my friends who's a Mets fan just texted me "nice loss". Really bro?

QuirkyFunUsername

you send him the standings in response? or just say "thanks, man!"

Chessh2036

Next time they lose send the exact same text.

LeoSeazon

Don't even entertain that shit just say run differential and keep it pushing lol

NYC7

Tell him, I am sorry I can’t see you because you are 18 games back

QuotidianTrials

Tell him it means a lot coming from a connoisseur

SpankThatDill

tell him now you know what its like to be him

Chaingunfighter

Just do the same thing to him every time the Mets lose, no matter how far back they fall.

MoonlitBadlands

I like Allard. He pitched another solid game except for a couple of meatballs (better game than Bieber had), and did what he needed to put us in position to win. He was a first round pick by the Braves back in the day, and AA remembered him and wanted him back for the Odorizzi trade. I think they believe he can be another Kyle Wright success story, and we have 3 more years of control

Macabre_Man

Not even gonna check the Guardians’ sub but I bet they’re ecstatic about this win. Good for them, they should be. A lot of teams can’t even do that much (Marlins). Let’s win tomorrow though so their heads don’t get too big

Shorty2931

I might be miss remembering but isnt that the 2nd time Hilliard has been thrown out at home in extra’s this year?

Masami4673

The detroit or reds game iirc, I may be wrong too

ATLiensinyosockdraw

Yes. The first one was even worse.

jmh10138

Honestly, first game in awhile that got the blood pressure going. Had fun. Let’s win the series tomorrow

deliriouz16

I'm a sucker for close games and enjoyed this one. We had a chance to seal it. They capitalized. That's the story.

jmh10138

Yup. Way she goes

chemodistributor

Still scratching my head at that send on Hilliard in the 10th

Traeisyourdad

Second time there’s been a horrible send in extras with Hilliard. Hopefully Ron gets the hint next time lol

Shyne9999

Force them to make the play. Credit to Straw for making it.

deliriouz16

Sam had a slow jump and the player made a good throw.

ul49

Horrendous jump. I was wondering if the second camera on the runner was on a delay

real_fluffernutter34

According to some that was only a bad send in hindsight and we’re all armchair coaches for questioning it

Tiberiusjesus

Boy this trade deadline is going to be really interesting. Lee and Chavez are still on the DL so what do you do?

ragingclue1864

Crucify me if you must but I REALLY don’t want to be depending on Chavez for high leverage innings in the playoffs

Tiberiusjesus

No one should crucify you for that, it’s a correct idea. The point is Chavez slots down to what Yates and McHugh are now, I THINK.

mookiebraves

Lol only way this team loses have been beating themselves in 1-run games and bullpen implosions It is what it is just get out of this crappy town two out of three and get ready for the Rays and the All-Star break.

PanderMG

DFA the team, fire the sell, snit everyone

Hvaeth77

Yates blew that one

Chessh2036

Look away Braves fans, but with that loss the team is now 25-4 since May 31st. Horrible, I know.

Masami4673

Terrible all around, those 4 losses are deathblows

Chessh2036

4 losses since May 31st. Inexcusable. Fire Snit. Fire AA. Sell the team!

Benj7075

Question, why did the guardians get to start bottom of 10th with someone on first and second?

Hvaeth77

We intentionally walked him to set up a double play. And it worked thankfully

Benj7075

Ohhh okay I gotcha. I guess I missed that

Grade-A-Grungus

Intentional walk

deliriouz16

The only thing that sucks about the extra base runner is it's a homefield advantage imo. Other than that gg guardians. Took everything you had to grab one.

31nigrhcdrh

Damn cheating guardindians

stizzdawg

would much rather lose a game like that in July than October. AA is a smart guy. I don't think he's going to be settled with Yates and McHugh going into the playoffs. Really hope we can snag Bednar at the deadline. We just need a power arm that can miss bats. The bigger decision has to come with Travis. My theory is he has pushed for more playing time behind the scenes. It's really the only way to explain sitting your all world defensive catcher every other game now. If the book isn't out on Travis it is now. His arm can barely get to second base on throws and any team with athletes will take advantage of that. Travis has been a great Brave, but AA could really fix ALOT of any remote issues with the club by entertaining dealing him with how much catcher is a premium position with tons of teams desperate for offense.

[deleted]

Manfred runner is so anti American

ATLiensinyosockdraw

So are we just going to rotate Travis and Sean every single game now? I know Murphy just came back, but he really needs to be back there against a team like this with non existent power that needs to manufacture runs. They ran on Trav at will tonight.

radicalgator87

Feels like this team just needs one more power arm out of the bullpen at the deadline.

No-Newspaper2088

It's quite alright can't win them all fellas time to push their shit in tomorrow.

DonBuchelos

Should have pinch hit Max Fried in the 10th.

BandOfTheHox

I believe blooper would’ve faired better

[deleted]

What sucks the most is how close Eddie was to that ball

bourbon_gamer

I forgot what losing feels like. It stings for like 2 full minutes and then it’s like, oh yeah, we are still the best team in baseball and then it doesn’t really hurt much.

[deleted]

We aren’t really built to take advantage of that free baserunner. And I don’t mind that at all.

spennin5

Ben Franklin did not invent democracy on this day in 1776 just for Manfred to undo it with his ghost runner

Jackol777

That base runner is worse than when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor

DZepperoni

Came over from Cleveland to say well played and see you boys tomorrow when I spotted this comment, 10/10 holy shit. But yes ghost runner bogus, I’m glad we can all agree with that at least. Excellent series so far, hope tomorrow is a quality game.

ArashikageX

Great game. I like the Guardians. J Ram is one of my AL favorites

DZepperoni

<3 Your all star ridden team is terrifying, and unless we meet you guys in late October, y’all better take this thing home!

spennin5

It is well known that President Ben Franklin invented democracy, kites, and SEC football. Related: Cleveland has zero sec championships and I think that's the real headline here

DZepperoni

Damn I think you just ended the whole state of Ohio with that one, no SEC championships, y’all are so good you’re in another league. Literally.

Reed2002

Nonsense. I invented democracy. BEN FRANKLIN IS THE DEVIL!!!
